One of the most beloved figures in Knoxville will do a rare interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, the network announced.
Even local media has not been granted the kind of access “GMA” is getting from former Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt. Sitting down with “GMA” personality Robin Roberts, one of her dearest friends, Summitt will talk about her new book “Sum It Up: 1,098 Victories, a Couple of Irrelevant Losses and a Life in Perspective,” out Tuesday.
Roberts was in Knoxville a couple of weeks ago to do the interview at Summitt’s home. The two later attended a Lady Vols game together.
Summitt received a diagnosis of early onset dementia in recent years. In her book, she recollects about her childhood growing up on a Middle Tennessee farm in a family of modest means, competing in the Olympics, becoming the women’s basketball coach at UT, her marriage that ended in divorce, her son and her fears of dementia.
“GMA” airs 7-9 a.m. weekdays on WATE.
