I heard that also, but Seth Davis proclaimed UT had done enough without winning anything in the SEC tourney. Gottlieb and some of these other analyst are really biased toward certain conferences,so surely the selection committee isn't buying into it.
The comments thus far make sense; the poll does not. If this went national and we had four million responses...does not matter. Why, then, does KNS bother?
The drive to Nashville should be sufficient but history tells us probably not. Losing that first game vs an inferior opponent gives the committee an out.
Here's an idea. Take care of bidness early in the season and avoid the rush.
The Vols are in. They've done enough. Winning a couple of tournament games helps their seeding. Screw what the TV blowhards have to say. The Selection committee absolutely cannot keep UT out of the big dance this year!

I sincerely hope you're right but the "committee" has made some really strange moves over the years.
Unfortunately the "process" is much like statistics. You can justify dang near anything.

I have watched a lot of bb this year, and even though I am a UT and SEC fan, the Big 10 is playing more solid, fundamental bb than any conference this year. The SEC is not as deep or as talented as in previous years. Just calling it as I see it.

the sportswriters say the same thing year in year out, since the introduction of the BCS in football they have been proven wrong so now they try and cram the big ten down everyones throat via basketball . in the last 23 years the big ten has won the NCAA basketball title 1 time . facts dont lie .

I thought so too after Saturdays win, but now Lunardi has dropped UT into the first 4 out and Im not so sure anymore. Kentucky is 5 and 4 over their last 9 games and gets all the way back in with 1 win. The Vols are 8 of 9 with more quality wins and gets bumped down after beating mizzou. It looks like the Vols will have do much more than UK has to make it in if Lunardi is close on his predictions.
The fact that Kentucky can't beat anybody outside of Corrupt Arena is not relevant. NCAA, ESPN, CBS, and SEC are looking for any excuse they can to get Kentucky in the tournament. 90% of the country wants to watch Kentucky play just to see them get beat. So if Kentucky wins one game in the SEC tournament, they are in.
That's going to put pressure on NCAA to not put some more deserving SEC team in. They've been talking all year about how weak the SEC is. Florida is obviously in. Missouri, I think, is in, but if they win, they are definitely in. Ole Miss is on the bubble and can probably get in with a win over Missouri. Under this scenario, no way they are going to put six SEC teams in, so Tennessee must beat Alabama.
The logjam starts with putting a Kentucky team in that gets a 15 point automatic headstart in Corrupt Arena and is not deserving, except in the eyes of those who covet big TV ratings.
I feel like Tennessee must win first game plus Bama to feel totally safe. Teams like Iowa, Iowa State, Virginia, Maryland, MTSU, etc. scare me because if they make big runs in their tourny (or in case of MTSU don't win their tourny) they could steal UT's spot.

Good point. The SEC has won 3 of the last 7 NCAA championships (with two different teams), yet somehow we're not a strong basketball conference. I don't get it.
We should be in, but ........since we are on the bubble, I believe they will stick it to us like they did last year. I can't help but think that the ncaa is going to make us pay for Bruce two years in a row. I know we didn't get a postseason ban, but if we don't get in this year, it's going to be hard to convince me that a deal hasn't been made. I mean everyone knows the ncaa is corrupt, just watch what they do to Miami.
The Vols are in. They've done enough. Winning a couple of tournament games helps their seeding. Screw what the TV blowhards have to say. The Selection committee absolutely cannot keep UT out of the big dance this year!
Maybe so, but as another poster said, win two and take it out of their hands. While I don't subscribe to the idea that the committee is LOOKING for ways to keep the Vols out, there is still too much room for them to make a "mistake" if the Vols leave them a chance.

I agree. The Big 10 hype is for real this year. Any one of about six Big 10 teams would have been the odds-on favorite in the SEC. I think the top teams in the SEC could give any of them a battle in one game, but if the top half of each league played each other over a season, the Big 10 teams would probably win two-thirds of them.

That is also true, but you must admit that by the famous "eye-test", several Big 10 teams look pretty darned good. Any team can be upset, probably more so this year than in most, which is why I would give a top SEC team a chance against any of them in a tournament game. Still, you just don't see many weaknesses in more than a few of those teams this year. This may be the year they beat that really odd stat you cited.

some of my first memories of following college basketball were around the time of Bobby Knights shampionship teams at Indiana and those teams were really good ,Magic at Michigan St. was another good team . i guess my point is i aint knocking the big Ten in Bball but i dont see them getting alot more teams in the tourney because mostly of the abundance of sportwriters in that area of the country . it was the same way in football for many years for that sole purpose , many of the big ten football NCAA title teams and probably some of Notre Dame's were for the simple fact they usually didnt have to venture south .Personally and this is just my opinion but to me the best teams ive seen play this year were from the big East but college basketballs titles , and im sure i dont need to tell you this because i read your posts and you seem to have a much better grasp on the game than i do ,is usually won buy the team that gets hot or gels at the end of the season so anything is possible . i guess thats one of its best qualities .
Lose 1st game & Vols are probably out because they're so susceptible to losing to very low RPI teams (Ga) thru last12 of regular season. Win only one and we MAY be in because as others have said, some hot mid-major teams will be offered our dance ticket by the northerly biased commitee, but we will be on the edge of our seats during selection. Win two and the whole Vol Nation has a right to throw the BS flag at the selection commitee and NCAA in general if we don't get in. Win 3 and we're a lock.

Anybody who grew up following sports in the South has had a bellyful of Big 10 bias in the national media. And I agree with your point that for all their hype, the Big 10 has pretty much not gotten it done year after year in the NCAAs. And there are several good teams in the Big East as usual. Still, there are few teams I have seen this year that impress me more than Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State. OSU and Wisconsin are right behind. Minnesota has fallen off lately and most of the rest of the conference drops off rather rapidly after that. However, with the exception of Duke or maybe Miami, I don't know who I would favor over those top three Big 10 teams to win the title this year. I just know I hope the Vols have a chance to measure themselves against some of the nation's best with the way they are playing now.

Truth is probably have to win at least 2. NCAA is looking for a reason to NOT take SEC teams this year.

Don't lose the first game. Then you've got 20 wins against a good schedule. Should be enough in an expanded field.
