Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart's overall annual compensation is in line with the SEC average, according to a database of AD salaries.
Hart makes $817,250 annually, which puts him above the SEC median salary of $674,659. But because there are no performance bonuses tied to his contract, his maximum compensation is actually below the league median.
Vanderbilt's David Williams, who serves multiple roles at the university, leads the league at $3.2 million in compensation.

Making that kind of money you would think he could get a better haircut!

That isn't his hair, that's a dyed Beaver pelt.
Speaking of medium pay, shouldn't Hart be paid based on his teams field performance, the Vols in football were next to last in the SEC except for Kentucky.

What is the purpose of this article? To have mental midgets like the ones above comment on it? Dumb.

Okay KNS, we get it. UT Athletic Department spends money on salaries. Some expenditures are for folks who coach and manage UTAD functions now, some expenditures are for folks who used to do those things. Got it. Thanks.

Vanderbilt leads the SEC ? Wow that is shocking

one would think that the UT AD (dave hart or not) would be paid at least in the top 3 in the SEC, but what do i know. i guess that was raises are for.

Mental midgets. Now there is a new for me. I'm wondering if that is the same as what I have heard called "basically brainless", "inadequate intelluct" or "cerebrally challenged"? Not implying that anyone is, just trying to grasp a new concept....never to old to learn.

I have a feeling most comments made about Hart are not fact based. They are simply feelings stemming from the fact the football program is down.
lstbodeanvol writes:
I thought he also got money from Alabama as well for a job well done :( Cheek probably gets money from Florida as well :( Wish we had an AD and President that were alumni

What's the ole saying? Over paid & under appreciated! If not, at least half of the statement still applies in this case.

I'll run the program into the ground for a lot less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An AD is worth about 100k to 125k a year.
A football coach, at Jones' level, maybe 150k. Saban, about a mill.
This stuff is so unbelievably out of hand.
madrigal writes:
When Dave Hart can prove he's anything but a hack, then he might deserve better pay. Although quite honestly UT ought to be paying the faculty better and not wasting their money on an AD like the last couple we've had.
NYCApple writes:
His pay needs to be at that level, and below the mean, until he delivers an improved product....not just cost cuts.
Didn't they practice today? This is all that we could discuss today, after the third or fourth day of spring practice?
Wow.
Go Vols.

$817K is ridiculous. College athletics is out of control.

$817K a year? U.T. sure doesn't need any more of my alumni money - that's for certain...

Workers in all professions: assembly lines, lawyers, truck drivers, teachers..including most posters on this sight, work in a similar pay range but do not produce equally. Way of life. No different with our AD. Others have covered the subject of why are we interested, what is the point of this article or why should we care? Sure, it is "out of control." Probably was when the General was AD, in relation to faculty. It is what it is.

Out of control is right. But what hair color number does Dave use? Jus sayin.

Way Overpaid....all of them are.

I'm ok with Hart. He took on a tough job description as a hatchet man which everyone pretty much hates. His salary is average, not outrageous. But I can not trust a booger eater!
jjk writes:
I know they have difficult jobs, but that salary is way too much. Some CEO, lawyers and doctors have much, much harder jobs and some don't even make $100,000 a year.

You didn't expect him to wipe that on his suit did you?

Overpaid and overrated. Who makes these decisions?
Bet they're overpaid too.
