CHATTANOOGA — That sleepless night in December might seem like it was much more than five months ago to Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart.

One day after he thought he'd hired Louisville's Charlie Strong to be the Volunteers' football coach, Hart was in Lexington, Ky., visiting with Cincinnati coach Butch Jones for a late-night meeting that spilled over into the wee hours of a Friday morning.

Twenty-three weeks later, Hart described the experience of watching the man he hired energize a fan base and make some recruiting splashes in a brief amount of time.

"It's been gratifying and exciting," Hart said before the Big Orange Caravan's stop Thursday night at the Chattanooga Convention Center. "I'm excited in general. I'm excited about where we are and where we're headed, and clearly we got the right guy.

Don't be too tough on the "Kid". He ain't right in the head! Go easy with him so as not to push him over the edge. Never know what he might do to himself if you upset him too much... Asking him to explain or give evidence on one of his comments is terrifying to him. It means he might actually have to think before spouting off. And that is beyond his ability. I think that he and SevenTeeth may actually be like "IN" together. Just show them the love....

You nailed that..Dave Hart has trimmed the fat off of the athletic dept, stopped the misappropriation of funds throughout the university and hired a really competent fb coach. All the while completing the finest athletic training facility in the nation. I really feel Charlie Strong (a solid fb coach) was a bad fit at UT, and really wants the UF or USCe job in the future..JMO, but Dave Hart deserved a bonus and national recognition for restructuring the athletic dept, not jeers for not going along with the good ol' boy mentality that has plagued UT since Woodruff was in place.

We will see about the lawsuits. At least one women had two women's coaches recommend her dismissal. We will have to see how this plays out. As for our problems in 3 men's sports, he inherited Dooley and Martin. Dooley got a quick hook from Hart, considering the huge buyout he got from Hamilton. Firing Fulmer, replacing him with Kiffin, and hiring Dooley are on Hamilton, not Hart. We will see how Martin does (I'm optimistic), but that is also on Hamilton. Hamilton also fired a successful baseball coach and replaced him with the guy that ruined our program. I can't remember if Hart hired the current guy or not. What will determine where Hart is successful or not mainly will be if Football turns around with his hire. That would take care of our finances if football is successful again. After that, we will need to see if basketball and baseball improve. It is way to early to say if Hart is successful or not.

As always, my comment on CBJ is categorically it is too early to tell whether or not he is the "right guy". It's nonsense to argue either side of he is or is not the right guy at this point. A year from now, yes we can all argue about him and have some base experience for support.

But, for now at the VERY least, we now have a football guy in the coach's office and just that knowledge gives me a lot of hope for the future...

Let's get your facts straight. Nor sure where you are getting your kool-aid!

The baseball program was in disarray before CTR arrived. That is why a change was made. CTR inherited scholarship penalties because of poor academic performance among other things.he never had 4 scholarships on the field during his time. His first two years were much better than CDS and would have easily qualified for SEC tourney under current format. CTR didn't ruin anything. He ran a tight program, cleaned up all the academics and drug issues within the program and got a first class stadium built. The next coach got a beautiful, stadium and a full allotment of scholarships. Something CTR never had. Also the next coach got Godley, Bennett, Maddox, Toles and Williams. By far his best players. Chat rooms don't always provide you with the most accurate information.

Hamilton did hire CDS. He sent the groundwork for it before he ran out the door with the loot. Jimmy Hyams reported that. The job description didn't have a college degree requirement bc CDS isn't a college grad. This was the only job descp written at UT in the last 20plus years that didn't require a degree. That is a fact and public knowledege.

They are not, but remember 247/sports is based in Florida and each team has their own site connected with the main blog. If anything the stories are too biased (Athlon-type) that mostly sugar coat every topic. I do enjoy the VIP section which updates you on every major sport from recruiting to injury rehab. To me the VIP section is the best part of the membership. As far as recruiting, I'll stick with Rivals for faster updates and where the athlete is leaning.
