Tennessee women’s golfer Erica Popson once again used the 18th hole to alleviate previous trouble Thursday at the NCAA championships at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
For the second straight day, the senior made birdie on the 488-yard par 5, but it came after three straight bogeys.
Popson shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for 33rd at 4-over 220.
“I came in this week with really high goals and expectations and am pretty disappointed that I haven’t met those so far this week,” Popson said. “I really want to play well tomorrow and have my last round as a Lady Vol be a great one.”
Popson leads all players competing in the tournament as an individual.
Southern Cal’s Annie Park (70) leads Mississippi State’s Ally McDonald and Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow by two shots at 207.
The Trojans also built upon an already daunting lead in the team competition by finishing at 285 and now lead by 17 shots over Duke (287) at 19-under 845.
