Tennessee senior Erica Popson earned her third All-America golf honor in four years as she was named to the 2012-13 Women’s Golf Coaches’ Association’s second team, the WGCA announced Wednesday.
Popson, one of the most decorated golfers in UT history, is one of 40 student-athletes named a WGCA All-American, which consists of first, second and honorable mention Teams.
The native of Davenport, Fla., made her final appearance as an individual representing Tennessee at the NCAA championships. She finished in a tie for 20th after a four-day score of 295.
Two weeks prior at the NCAA East Regional, Popson opened the first round firing a 5-under par 67. She finished the regional tied for eighth at 3-under 213 before winning a playoff to advance to the NCAA championships.
Vanderbilt sophomore Kendall Martindale was named honorable mention. The Jefferson County High School graduate led Vanderbilt in stroke average this season at 73.71.
Meanwhile, UT’s Sara Monberg was named to the SEC women’s golf community service team for the second consecutive season, the league office announced. She has been involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters events and several other organizations.
Men’s Tennis: Tennessee ended the 2013 season ranked sixth in the final ITA national tennis team rankings.
The Vols (26-9, 8-4 SEC) reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA championship for the third time in four seasons under coach Sam Winterbotham and associate head coach Chris Woodruff.
