Tennessee defied the media’s preaseason view last season. The Lady Vols now will try to live up to their prediction.
The reigning regular-season champions were picked to repeat for the 2013-14 women’s basketball season by a panel of league and national media members.
UT senior guard Meighan Simmons was chosen as player of the year. Lady Vols sophomore forward Bashaara Graves joined Simmons on the all-conference team.
The preseason picks were announced Monday by the conference.
Tennessee, which was picked to finish fourth by the media last season, received 10 first-place votes and 192 points. Kentucky was second with five first-place votes and 185 points, followed by LSU (156), Texas A&M (144), Vanderbilt (134), Georgia (132) and South Carolina (131).
The second half of the league was Auburn (84), Missouri (74), Florida (67), Mississippi State (66), Arkansas (57), Ole Miss (29) and Alabama (18).
