Katie Lenz scored just in time for Tennessee to avoid defeat against Auburn Friday night.

The senior forward scored off a rebound in the 89th minute, which turned out to be the final goal of a 1-1 SEC women’s soccer draw with the Tigers at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Both teams had several close calls in overtime. With six seconds left in the second extra session, Caroline Brown was awarded a free kick from just outside the box for Tennessee (7-5-3, 2-3-2 SEC). But the ball was knocked down and time expired.

Auburn (4-8-3, 0-5-2) scored in the 61st minute to take the lead when Haley Gerken played a ball forward for Casie Ramsier inside the box and she put it in the right side of the net.

Tennessee missed a great scoring opportunity in the 31st minute when Brown played a ball into the box off a breakaway. She drew the goalkeeper and passed to teammate Hannah Wilkinson.

With just two Auburn defenders split in front of her and no keeper, Wilkinson’s shot sailed over the crossbar.
