Tennessee said more than 200 former football players — old-timers and recent graduates — would return this weekend for “VFL Championship Weekend.”

VFL coordinator Antone Davis said in a video release this week that former players were honored at a dinner on Friday night and will go through the Vol Walk and run through the ‘T’ with the current team before Saturday’s game against South Carolina.

Coach Butch Jones has made connecting with past players an emphasis since his arrival 11 months ago.

“I think it shows the commitment of the head coach to say, ‘Hey, you know what? You’re welcome back,” Davis said. “It shows the players want to come back, they want to be a part of Tennessee.”

Davis said the former players in attendance would include Pat Shires, Dewey Warren, Chad Clifton, Jamal Lewis, Terry McDaniel and Al Wilson.

Surely wish I could be there. I envy those who can and will be part of the game day activities.
Go Vols beat the Game Chickens.
