A so-called signature win eluded former Tennessee coach Derek Dooley for his entire three-year tenure, which is one of the reasons it was important for Butch Jones to get the distinction in year one, GoVols247 reporter Ryan Callahan said Monday on the News Sentinel Sports Page.

"There were some games the last couple of years that Tennessee could have won, that slipped away late," Callahan said. "This was a release for a lot of people who felt Tennessee was long overdue for this type of win. In terms of where this program is, it meant a lot to see Butch Jones get that big signature win so early. We saw Derek Dooley come close in his first year a couple of times, but it never happened. To get that win in your first year can be a huge launching pad for any team looking to turn the corner."
