GVX Audio: Western Kentucky's Todd Stewart
Western Kentucky athletic director Todd Stewart said new coach Bobby Petrino elevated Western Kentucky's football program before he even coached a game.
"He's given us an identity," said Stewart, citing media coverage in USA Today and ESPN.
News Sentinel columnist John Adams wrote about Stewart today. Stewart said he was a Tennessee football fan since the first grade.
In an appearance on the News Sentinel Sports Page on Tuesday, Stewart said the hiring of Petrino wasn't controversial to WKU supporters. Petrino was fired after engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate at Arkansas.
"It was very largely positive, especially here with our region," Stewart said. "They were familiar with what he did at Louisville. The negative feedback I received was from Arkansas and Atlanta, primarily."
