A pivotal and potentially season-defining inbound pass never made it to Jordan McRae, and the Tennessee men’s basketball team’s hope of beating Missouri in the first of its two meetings this season was stolen by Jabari Brown.

UT (15-10, 6-6 SEC) lost 75-70 to Missouri (18-7, 6-6) at Mizzou Arena on Saturday after a chance to tie a game that tossed and turned through seven lead changes and 10 ties fizzled.

McRae scored a game-high 31 points, his second 30-point game of the season and fourth of his career. But on a night few of his teammates did much to help him, he needed at least three more.

UT trailed 73-70 with 10 seconds left when McRae’s 3-point attempt to tie the game hit the rim and bounced off. Missouri touched the ball last before it went out of bounds.

But Missouri clamped down and Jeronne Maymon threw a sloppy inbound pass that Brown intercepted. Missouri’s Johnathan Williams hit the game’s final free throws that sealed the Tigers’ win.

Josh Richardson scored 16 points and Jarnell Stokes scored 13 and pulled down eight rebounds, but was nearly silent in the second half.

Brown led the Tigers with 24 points. Earnest Ross added 15. Jordan Clarkson scored a season-low 10.

UT’s heartbreaking loss came after it led by as much as four with 10:48 to play in the second half. The Vols took that lead after trailing by as much as 13 halfway through the first.

Looking at the stats..19% on 3's..40% for the game..amazing the game was that close..Maymon always gives 100% effort..but with his lack of jumping ability..need more production from that spot..he really struggled late in the game..especially on the attempt to shoot a reverse layup..credit the Vols for making the game closer than I thought on the road..lack of coaching when you can't even get the ball in bounds with a possible tie on the line..

Barton was pretty good at Memphis. It says a lot that Syracuse wanted him too. It's just that he's regressed big time under Cuonzo.

Detached? If you watched the game you saw him run to half court with around 7 minutes to complain about another SEC official botched call.
I saw him drawing up plays and I also saw players clanking 3's, missing FT's and causing 11 turnovers many unforced giving Mizzou free points.
There were 3 Tigers with 4 fouls for the last 10 minutes yet the Vols couldn't force the issue because the point guards stink and the shooters can't shoot.
Again, the players lost this game due to poor execution, no consistent defense due to either fatigue or just being lazy, jacking 3's to no avail, and standing around or the inability to make a shot on basket or off the dribble drive like Mizzou.
If you watched their game against the pigs on Thursday they won the same way.
The players continue to fail to step up and make the plays to win!
The Vols don't have the will to win and that started with Pearl's last two teams.

Poorly coached team. Players have no basketball savvy/intelligence. Prime example is man defense chasing opponent rather than using spacing and fronting properly. Cuonzo never implemented 1-3-1 in game where guards were overmatched. Love cuonzo's character. Dislike his coaching. Bring back Pearl or get Rick Byrd.

you are so right, we have mike Hamilton to thank for these two bums. little mikey had a problem dealing with bruce and phil's standing in the university, and community. as one poster said he saw martin chasing an official, once when he made a bad call, ok that's one protest from this idiot, of course he is always drawing up a play get the ball inside to stokes, with no training on how to pass the ball back out on the double teams he faces. how does anyone expect the players to play with heart, when their chicken -hit coach brags about never having a technical called on him. he sits on his -ss, 99% of the time, and dumbs out. early in the year Thompson was playing fairly well, and scoring some, stealing the ball, and a fair number of assist, now if the kid misses one shot martin pulls him. he has destroyed the kids confidence. aj davis first off the bench, you got to be kidding, he will not mix it up with his grandmother, 6'9 thinks he is a damn point guard. moore has more hops and plays harder, reece also rebounds better and plays harder than davis, but it is obvious martin does not want him to shoot, if anyone remembers early last year martin bragged on reece shooting the 3, think I should shut up. I will close on one thought martin can not coach a crapping contest.

All of the blame you place on the players may be accurate and true, but while those things are not CCM's fault, it is absolutely his responsibility as head coach. It is his job to be accountable for his players' execution, style of play, effort and consistency. If he cannot get the players to perform adequately in those areas to a level necessary to compete for championships and get into the NCAA tourney on a consistent basis, then he is not doing what he was hired to do.

Once again your real agenda is showing by your lack of honesty. Bruce had 5 straight NCAA appearances. Bruce had a top 10 recruiting class every other year while he was our coach. Bruce was set up by his own administrators over a photograph they knew about but failed to tell him about before he was interviewed by the NCAA. Cuonzo has no NCAA appearances and has had no recruiting class in the top 30. Failure to bring coach Pearl back would be the most incompetent decision UT has made in recent history, and there have been many.

Once again exageration reigns. Having a recruit come to your house is a secondary violation. A photo of that event thrust into your face without warning is treachery when your bosses know about it. You who are without fault cast the first stone. Frank Haith, former Miami coach and now Mizzo coach, paid a supporter to lie about illegal recruiting. The NCAA suspended him for 5 games. Coach Pearl got a 3 year show cause for alot less. You Bruce detractors might be well advised to spend your time questioning why Tennessee gets different treatment from the NCAA. Also,I believe in forgiveness and second chances.

Ramar Smith comes to mind. And there is a large gap between choir boys and felons or gun packing, drugged out misdemeanor committers, too. It is, or should be possible to have good teams without the growing list of criminal issues that Pearl's teams had. Oh, and where are the two players to whom you referred under CCM? They came, they committed, they were gone.

Then why don't you fill us in on why he received a 3 year show cause if it wasn't over lying to the NCAA because the BBQ was a secondary violation. Maybe you can also explain why Frank Haith only received a 5 game suspension for paying off people to lie about cheating. Why did Pearl receive a show cause and Haith didn't?
