GVX Audio: Aric Thomas, Feb. 20, 2014
KNOXVILLE — The Tennessee baseball team has a 4-0 start so far in 2014 after winning a series with Purdue and then defeating Appalachian State Wednesday, 5-3. Assistant coach Aric Thomas joined host Vince Ferrara and News Sentinel reporter Evan Woodbery on the News Sentinel Sports page Thursday morning to talk about the team and the upcoming series with UNLV this weekend.
Wednesday's win over Appalachian State was closer than Tennessee has seen yet this season.
"I think offensively, we were a little bit backwards," Thomas said. "We were swinging a lot of off speed stuff and taking some fastballs and just didn't play as clean a game as we wanted.
"App State is - I think they're better than what we saw on the weekend. They came in here a little bit better club. We just didn't play the way we could play, but when you come out of there with a win you've got to be pleased."
Thomas was optimistic about faciing UNLV this weekend - a team that gave the Vols some trouble last year.
"We're going to see a really good guy Friday night. He's gonna be a high draft pick. It'll be the best arm we've seen all season and we're looking forward to that challenge. UNLV's a team that won 37 games last year. Good club coming in here.
"I think we just want to get better every day. We know we have a chance to be pretty good. We're still a little bit young, but we feel if we just play our game the opponent really shouldn't matter for us."
