GVX Audio: Tom Luginbill on the "BCS Film Room"
On the News Sentinel Sports Page Thursday, Tom Luginbill, National Recruiting Director and College Football Analyst for ESPN, talked about the “BCS Film Room” show that aired Jan. 6, 2014. The “Megacast” was hosted by Luginbill and fellow analysts Matt Millen, and Chris Spielman and rounded out with three current coaches Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin, Boston College’s Steve Addazio, and Pittsburgh’s Paul Chryst.
“The concept was derived from our film room show that we air each and every week on ESPNU and have for the last three seasons. But in that show, we generally preview and break down things in an Xs and Os format about things you need to look for in a particular matchup for the upcoming weekend and I think that’s where the idea was born.
“To take it and apply it to a live, moving structure where you really don’t have any rehearsal and you really don’t have any idea how all the moving parts are going to work. That’s where the challenges came into play because you’re trying to integrate six different individuals and want to make sure that not only are you giving good insight and if you’re going to do replays and you’re going to tell it straight and do all those sorts of things, that you’re constantly keeping pace with the game so that you don’t miss the next play because we were simulcasting live.
“I think the greatest challenge in all of that was what angle did we all want to see? And then trying to facilitate all that — again — not missing any plays that were coming up.”
