The University of Tennessee has finalized plans to switch its athletics apparel company from adidas to Nike, the school announced on Twitter on Friday.

UT says the deal with Nike is department wide, which means it will apply to both the Vols and Lady Vols.

While the switch has been secured, UT’s appearance on the field and court is not expected to change until its current contract with adidas expires.

That contract, which is an extension of one signed in 2004, ends on June 30, 2015. UT teams have worn Adidas since the mid-1990s.

UT is the second high-profile college athletics program to sever ties with adidas during this college football offseason. Notre Dame announced plans to switch from adidas to Under Armour last week.

More details later online and in Saturday's News Sentinel.

Yes, this will help recruiting, as though Coach Jones needs much more help. Plus adidas makes you look slow, lawd knows, the team hasn't needed a whole lot of help doing that lately. So as long as we don't go flavor-of-the-week like the ducks...I'm all good.

Personally, I love the Ducks uniforms. They are eye catching. Traditional doesn't mean you have to be stodgy.

In thinking about "tradition", remember folks...it IS tradition that things continually change.

Good move going to Nike. Especially for basketball.
