Five-star quarterback Torrance Gibson

The recruitment of five-star quarterback prospect Torrance Gibson was the topic of conversation on today's News Sentinel Sports Page radio program.

Ryan Callahan, a reporter and recruiting analyst for News Sentinel partner govols247, said Gibson's recent visit to Auburn "made a pretty big impression on him."

The visit "kind of put Auburn in the lead for the moment, an ever-so-slight lead, it sounds like," Callahan said. "He's kind of tried to say that Tennessee and Auburn both are in the No. 1 slot for now with Auburn kind of in front. So I guess that makes Auburn 1A and Tennessee 1B. Whatever the case, it's a close race between those two."

Callahan said Gibson, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is now looking to visit Tennessee, perhaps this weekend.

"Certainly (Gibson's recruitment is) a long way from being decided. It kind of shows you how close things have gotten with Tennessee and Auburn. I think before, Tennessee maybe had a little more of a clear-cut lead, about three or four weeks ago, and now Auburn has at least pulled even and made this a really close race, and I think those are definitely the two teams to watch now, with Ohio State a little more of a distant third now but still in the race."
