GVX Audio: Zach Azzanni on Vols' young wide receivers
Tennessee assistant coach Zach Azzanni discussed the Vols' young corps of wide receivers on today's News Sentinel Sports Page radio program.
Azzanni, Tennessee's wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, said the young wideouts are likely to experience "growing pains" early on.
"I read some articles, and we might as well just retire we're so good already," Azzanni joked. "Some of these guys haven't played a snap yet, and they're already crowning them. That comes along with playing at a place like this, which I'm fine with. However, there's going to be some growing pains with some young guys. ... Marquez (North) went through them last year. He's going to go through some more this year. Hopefully not as many. Josh Smith had some growing pains last year. So, to say that a Josh Malone, a Von Pearson, a Vic Wharton are not going to go through some growing pains would be silly, because it's going to happen."
Azzanni added that he's excited about the potential of the receiving corps.
"They're football junkies," Azzanni said. "It's fun to coach 'em. I cannot stress how much fun it is to coach a bunch of big-time wide receivers that are talented, that hang on every word I say and that'll do anything I ask. That's why I'm excited. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch this young group develop, for sure."
