Tennessee cooled off one of the hottest teams in the NCAA softball tournament field, but not before they were put under fire in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Freshman Jessica Spigner delivered a one-out bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh to lift UT to a 4-3 win over James Madison (35-15) in a first-round game that ended at 12:22 a.m. at Lee Stadium. Full story »

Game times set for softball regionals

Official game times for the Knoxville Regional of the NCAA Championship have been set with No. 16 Tennessee (38-16-1) scheduled to open its tournament run at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, May 15th, at the Lee Softball Stadium against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament champion James Madison. Pitching is to a fastpitch softball what an engine is to a race car. Teams go nowhere fast without it.

Hitting, defense and strategy all affect the outcome, but ultimately the pitcher determines it, perhaps to a greater degree than any position in any other team sport.

The Tennessee softball program, once a doormat, quickly reached its greatest heights under co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly with Monica Abbott on the hill.
