Houston Fancher - Tennessee men's basketball assistant

Houston Fancher first joined the Tennessee men's basketball staff on August 23, 2009 after a head coaching stint at Appalachian State. Houston Fancher later served as interim coach after Bruce Pearl was fired on March 21, 2011. Houston Fancher was retained by Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin for his first staff with the Vols, the only Bruce Pearl assistant to remain on at Tennessee.

Houston Fancher, a native of Newport, started his coaching career at Maryville College in 1988. From there, Houston Fancher ascended the coaching ranks, including stops at North Greeneville and Vanderbilt, before eventually joining the staff of Buzz Peterson at Appalachian State.

Upon Buzz Peterson's departure to take the Tennessee head coaching job left open by Jerry Green's firing, Houston Fancher became head coach at Appalachian State. While as head coach of Appalachian State, Houston Fancher's teams won three Southern Conference division titles, set a school record for wins in a season, and defeated Virginia and Vanderbilt along the way.
