After suffering a rout last week at the hands of the team's defense, Tennessee's offense overcame some early turnovers to win Saturday's scrimmage at Neyland Stadium.

A junior from Daytona Beach, Fla., Lane rushed 120 times for 658 yards and caught 29 passes for 228 yards in 2012. He was the leading candidate to win the top running back job this spring.

Admission to the game is free and tickets are not required. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:05 p.m

Having watched balls sail high and bounce low for two hours, Tennessee football coach Butch Jones is still looking for his No. 1 quarterback.

The play-by-play commentary overshadowed the play at Tennessee’s spring football scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium.

Defensive players and coaches could smile and cheer about Saturday’s resounding scrimmage victory at Neyland Stadium, but for head coach Butch Jones, any optimism about one unit is always tempered by concern about the other.

"I think we're making strides defensively," said Tennessee coach Butch Jones. "Our offense needs to step up. Someone needs to take full ownership."

“Today we made a lot of mistakes, but we threw a lot at them. That goes hand in hand,” said offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian.

The Vols practiced outdoors Tuesday morning for more than two hours, shaking off rust and looking ahead to a key scrimmage at Neyland Stadium on Saturday.

In one direction, downtown Knoxville spread out before them. In the other, Neyland Stadium consumed the horizon.
