Tennessee's men's tennis program has skyrocketed back to national prominence since the arrival of Sam Winterbotham as coach prior to the 2007 season. Sam Winterbotham has over 100 wins in his tenure at Tennessee, becoming the quickest to do so.
Under Sam Winterbotham's guidance, the Vols returned to the NCAA championships for the first time in nine years in 2010, finishing as runner-up with a 31-2 overall record, second-best for wins in Tennessee history, as well as an 11-0 SEC record. Sam Winterbotham's team also captured the first SEC tennis tournament crown in 2010.
Also under Sam Winterbotham's guidance in 2010, the Vols had five players make the all-SEC team for the first time in school history, as well as landing another three - John-Patrick Smith, Rhyne Williams and Davey Sandgren - on the All-American team.

In an up-and-down match, top-seeded Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee were upset 7-6 (5), 7-5 by Chris Camillone and David Holiner of Texas in the second round of the NCAA men’s doubles championships on Friday in Urbana, Ill.
