Former Tennessee Lady Vol star Candace Parker had 31 points and 10 rebounds, and Lisa Leslie added 25 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to a 91-80 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday night.

EUGENE, Ore. — Former Tennessee standout Leigh Smith finished fifth in the javelin finals with a toss of 243 feet, 7 inches. Because he has thrown the “A” standard, though, Smith will compete in the Beijing Olympics. Smith’s season-best throw of 274-9 surpasses the Olympic “A” standard of 268-4. Full story »

INDIANAPOLIS — Tamika Catchings scored a season-high 18 points and the Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky 74-67 on Wednesday night.
Catchings added six rebounds, three assists and two steals in her eighth game of the season after missing the team’s first eight. She suffered a torn right Achilles’ tendon in last year’s Eastern Conference finals and underwent surgery in September.

Former University of Tennessee diver Jevon Tarantino hopes to return to Knoxville one day to complete his degree work.
He has returned temporarily this week to work on his degree of difficulty and other Olympic diving challenges.
The 24-year-old - who left school early to pursue his athletic dreams - is one of several competitors taking part in the USA Diving 2008 Olympic Team Selection Camp through Sunday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. Full story »
