Deadra Charles-Furlow has been hired as an assistant coach on the Lady Vols basketball team, UT announced on the Lady Vols website today. Charles-Furlow replaces former assistant Nikki Caldwell who accepted the head coaching position at UCLA last month. Full story »

Warlick OK with staying put with Lady Vols

Holly Warlick drove to work Wednesday, following the same routine she has for the past 23 years as a member of the Tennessee women’s basketball coaching staff.
“My car’s on autopilot,’’ she said jokingly.
So is the driver. Warlick will stay that way after South Carolina chose Temple coach Dawn Staley to fill the head-coaching opening for which Warlick interviewed twice.

Staley overtaking Warlick for South Carolina job

Temple coach Dawn Staley is emerging as the front-runner to fill the women’s basketball head coaching vacancy at South Carolina.
Sources in Philadelphia said talks have heated up between Staley and the Gamecocks. Staley, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and former All-American point guard at Virginia, interviewed in Columbia, S.C., last week. She has been Temple’s head coach for eight years, leading the Owls to the NCAA tournament six times.
Tennessee associate head coach Holly Warlick has interviewed twice for the South Carolina job, which became available when Susan Walvius resigned under pressure last month. Warlick went to Columbia last Friday and toured the facilities. Full story »

Moats takes leave at James Madison

Hatchell withdraws name from South Carolina search

North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell has withdrawn her name as a candidate to take over at South Carolina.
Hatchell had interviewed with Gamecocks officials to replace Susan Walvius, who resigned under pressure earlier this month. But Hatchell, a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, said Thursday in a statement that “North Carolina is my home.”

Tennessee issues DVD on Lady Vols' season

Tennessee will issue a DVD commemorating the Lady Volunteers’ path to their eighth national title. The “Sweet Repeat” documents the Lady Vols’ regular season coming off their seventh national championship, their Southeastern Conference tournament championship and NCAA title run.

UT kept track of UConn's recruiting since 2005

The complaints that Tennessee lodged concerning Connecticut’s women’s basketball recruiting practices were cumulative in nature and not based on a singular, seismic event.
UT filed more than 30 pages of documents with the SEC office during a five-month period in 2006. Everything from newspaper articles and photos to Internet chatroom e-mails were submitted in alleging a pattern of violations. The New Sentinel obtained the information Friday after making a request through the Tennessee Public Records Law.
