The NCAA is looking foolish. It's funny how nobody cared under the previous staff. When you've been average for so long, nobody cares. When you start separating yourself from the pack. Just sit back and watch the finger pointing from the loosing schools.
SummittsCourt writes:
The NCAA is a joke, this investigation is a joke and the Kiff is right. There are a lot of jealous people out their wondering how he is getting the top athletes considering UT. It's a compliment to what he is doing. Unfortunately as the wins keep coming the accusations will also keep coming.
Go Vols
utvolz#637682 writes:
Getting real tired of this. Kiff needs to tighten up his staff and move on!

when the season ends, the bs stories begin..got to sell papers, get bloggers, etc...
cdonsbach writes:
The NCAA is a joke. If they cared about the student athlete and the integrity of the game, there wouldn't be college athletes with a fourth-grade reading level on a full scholarship.
ncvol17 writes:
I hope your remark was tongue in cheek. This is no apology, it is a back handed slap at UT. I do agree these hostesses walk the slutdom line but this type girl has existed on all campus' since sports began. Groupies were their name in my day. Girls Gone Wild wannabes...Still why blame Lane & the coaches cause some chippies are getting a jump on these boys...Bama has as many as the next SEC school with the possible exception of Vandy..
Ringleader writes:
No, but the rules changed about these hostesses back around 1995. They are designated representatives of the University, and are not allowed to do any recruiting off campus, period. When I say "off campus", I believe it is limited to less than 10 miles. I recall Georgia had to cease using a horse farm, because it was about 20 miles from campus.
theoldbear writes:
I believe Lane Kiffin and his staff will manage to get the University of Tennessee on probation for the first time in school history.
Part of it (a big part) is ignorance. They just don't know the rules.
Another part is arrogance. Not cockiness, or confidence, but the kind of arrogance that says "the rules don't apply to us."
The final nail in the coffin is the track record of members on the staff.
And when UT is on probation, it will be the NCAA's fault. After all, as several people have said on this thread, the NCAA is a joke. Right?
I'm not laughing.
I love the Vols, and have been a fan for sixty years. But my love isn't blind. Much less deaf, dumb, and stupid.
Wake up and smell the coffee!
The NCAA is on Kiffin's case, and like an obsessive/compulsive health or building inspector, they'll keep searching until they find a violation.
Ringleader writes:
Their commitment was a verbal, which means nothing. That is why there is a signing date.
Ringleader writes:
I do not believe it is the NCAA. Kiffin has made Saben, Meyer, Spurrier, not to mention the 17 players who left the team, and the Strength Coach, and Slive have a grudge which causes them to report anything remotely shady to the NCAA.
I do not recall Sherrill getting this much bad press this fast at Mississippi State. Not to mention Danny Ford at Clemson, when he implemented Pells plan. Tennessee is under the watch from all corners. As for the hostesses, they are under the direction of the University, not the football program, or athletic department and they are supposed to log every activity. As for the intern, if Hamilton did not know he was traveling 854 miles to visit his high school, what did he think he was doing. The director of compliance has quite some explaining to do regardless of how this turns out.
zqvol writes:
The question is how long and how severe is the probation.

Go Big Orange! Beat the Hokies.
JohnsonCity_George writes:
See you read the headline and not the article. The article says he did not think the guy committed any violation. Big difference, but the KNS staff needs something to state as fact on the radio. Doing it this way, they can quote their own inaccurate headline
TnScooby writes:
Speaking of ignorance.....Tennessee HAS been on probation before but IMO I don't foresee it happening again....CLK has definitly raised the scrutiny on UT's program but ALL successful coaches will be under the microscope at some point....The NCAA will dig I'm sure but CLK and staff understand that is part of the deal....If there is something LEGITIMATE to be uncovered then so be it....Until then, this is what it is....SPECULATION
BigOrangeCountry writes:
I don't even think it is the NCAA. It's the media blowing it out of proportion.
DennisVols writes:
There is no major violation here nor was there ever a question of one. Those of you who want to make more of this than there is simply just want to rile up the fans on this board.
So far the NCAA has turned up nothing that in any stretch of the imagination would be considered serious. The best that could be said of the whole investigation is there MAY have been some poor decisions made by a couple of college student who traveled to a game to support their friends who happened to have made a verbal commitment to UT.
Outside of that they are grasping at straws based on a reports story that really did not do their due diligence and research the facts. This will all end with the NCAA asking UT and all other schools that use such programs like the “Orange Pride” to place tighter controls on them and do a better job of training them in what they can do and cannot do.
Following the ’98 championship year UT was under similar scrutiny as other schools within the conference had been upset at the dominance UT had had for several years. From ‘95- ’98 UT was 45-5 with 2 SEC titles and a National Championship. They had top 5 recruiting classes in each of those years. Suddenly ESPN was reporting cheating on grades and other reports that all turn out to be false where leveled against UT by other programs within the conference.
Now Kiffin comes in following several years of mediocre performance by UT. UT had become a 2nd tier team in the East division and rarely was even competitive against the top tier teams in the conference or the nation. Kiffin puts together a top 10 recruiting class in just 6 weeks on the job including landing the #1 recruit in the country. Then this year UT finishes 2nd in the East with decisive wins against GA and USC. Played competitive against UF and Bama and also starts compiling another top recruiting class for 2010. This from a 1st year coach that many so called experts thought would get taught a lesson in the SEC,
Face it the other schools UT competes against both on the field and in the recruiting game liked UT a lot better when they where average, before they started losing highly touted recruits to UT right out of their state.
Keeping it Real
Go Vols!!!

Hey, KNS staff - let me give you my opinion of you, instead. The KNS staff is about as bad as the NY Times when it comes to slanting the news by introducing an agenda or template. Where's the "scandal"? To date, nothing of substance has turned up. Another example of the slanted headline -- "Hamilton not aware of violation". Worded under the premise that not only was there a violation, but Hamilton is too stupid or incompetent to even be aware of it. This is Yellow Journalism. I wouldn't even wipe by backside with this kind of gutter trash. And the mainstream media wonders why their revenues are down.
Yellow Journalism (defined): A type of journalism that downplays legitimate news in favor of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers. It may feature exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, sensationalism, or unprofessional practices by news media organizations or journalists.
TinCup writes:
Q: Why are all the fans of other SEC schools in an uproar over this from a 7-5 team?
A: The Vols are the only team among the pack of teams that finished 7-5 this season that has the feel of a team to be reckoned with in about two more years. At that point it will be too late and Kiffin will be rollin'.

The only thing the NCAA should be investigating is who is throwing up this smoke screen to harm UT's recruiting. There is nothing here except jealousy and paper selling. Still no one wants the NCAA snooping around their program. My God, they might find that some booster bought a hamburger for a recruit when he was an 8th grader.

Is this a BAMAluva trying to get on somebody about arrogance, ignorance, and feeling like the rules don't apply to them??!! Exactly which of those don't apply to the selling textbooks scandal that Saban stated that he "knew nothing about"? Two hot girls go to a game to support to handsome, goal oriented young men. That is not akin to the textbook scandal or paying a coach 100k for a prospect!

I travel all around the Southeast with my job - when I get a chance I try to tune in to local sports shows - GA, AL, SC, FL, NC - you name it I've heard it. I can honestly say (my opinion)That Knoxville, for being a "College Town" has the worst Talk Shows and Media of all the States mentioned. I'm all Vol but I can tell you I enjoy listening to LA or GA sports radio 10x more than Knoxville, try it some time it will open your eyes to how bad our local media is. I'm also amazed how aparentlocal media's agenda is on taking down Kiffin and UT! The arrogance of the Good Ole boy network is shining thru - however their arrogance is so blind they don't see or understand the majority of Volnation supports this staff and the direction of the program - by no means do we have to be Rah, Rah go home team - but WOW, talk about Scandel? Agenda? Keep digging a hole KNS/GVX. Good job though - you got me to read and post.

Unfortunately, scandal sells newspapers and attracts bloggers. (Tiger Woods!) KNS is a typical small city newspaper. They are struggling to stay alive and "yellow journalism" is the only 'idea' they've come up with lately. Like reality TV, it will continue as long as we buy it. Too bad.

Next, the NCAA will say having a sports site on the internet is a violation...but only at Tennessee....I heard the NY Times guy is a Sour Syracuse loser who still holds a grudge from the 1998 interference call near the end of the game. Have you seen and compared the recruits even considering UT? Fulmer did not have nearly the luck or is is skill. CLK is making the $$$, Fulmer is....who knows we see him on CBS sometimes and he looks very out of place.

Bob, it was said on Bleacher Report that Clemson is the ones that turned in the report to the NCAA.

Bleacher Report, reported that Clemson turned in the alledgid photo of the girls with the recruits. I think with both boys fathers saying everything was ethical, nothing (except a closer eye if it is not already) will happen really. Lets just pray the boys stay committed, they are beasts and will help lead us to the NC.

If this were happening to Spurrier and USC, Tenn fans all across the country would be on this story like stink on manure, as would every other team/fans that hate Spurrier, especially Clemson fans. He would be pronounced guilty just because...and we all know it. Ok...get the rope and string me up for speaking the truth.

If anything were going to come of this they would have already found it. Reckless and careless behaviour by the university? Yes. No violations here. NCAA's wanted to stick one on the Vols for over ten years now. Slive and the NCAA just can't stand for a coach who's not a say all the right things puppet to have any success.
