The more you read about this you realize it was a prank.
However, it is emblematic of elements of our society that now see hold ups and criminal type activity to be part of life.
And the decline of the concept of football as a character builder and replaced now as a strictly win at all costs entertainment business.
At first I was for their outright dismissal then I got to thinking about some of the dumb things I did as a teenager which now tempers my opinion.
Instead I think they should be suspended for the rest of the season and put on a probationary status until next fall. At which time their ability to rejoin the team should be voted on by the players on the squad.
That would leave them unable to transfer to a lower division and play next year and make it more difficult for them to transfer. If they choose to leave immediately it will show they have no contrition and will be good riddance.
Being out at 2:00 am before classes and a big game is enough to warrant severe punishment let alone trying to impress a female with a fake robbery.
Maybe a limited second chance is in order but it should come with strict conditions.

Let's just say for a second that one or all of them are proven innocent...Would it really even matter at this point? With all of the bad publicity, would anyone respect or even except them after this? It's a situation that they will never escape. I hope these guys learn from this and move into a positive direction.

A PRANK? What if this was your wife and kids in the car when these 3 goons with a gun showed up?
"Hey honey, they said it was a prank" "Wasn't it funny"

Where I live, a prank like that will get your head blown off, quick!

Several comments and personal observations:
1. The three should have never been out at 2:00 in the morning
2. They should not have been in a vehicle with an individual in possession of an illegal substance
3. They should have been no where near a vehicle with a, supposedly, concealed weapon
4. They are representatives of the University and the Football team and should have had more respect for their school and fellow teammates to be in a position such as they were in, in the first place.
Prank or not, these three knuckleheads have set our program back to where it was two years ago, as far as credibility is concerned. Coach Kiffin had made substantial progress in this area and these three have brought that progress to a standstill, or, at least a step back. All the hard work that was done to get us back to a prominent program and one with National attention once again, hit a brick wall with the actions of these three. The spotlight is back on us but it is, once again, the spotlight from a police car.
Coach Kiffin will have to start from scratch again to overcome this big setback in terms of recruiting and team credibility.

They all gotta go. No matter JJ's involvement, he's gotta go. Just a few days after serving a suspension, then saying all the right things- obviously he meant none of it, just telling everyone what they wanted to hear. He needs to learn his actions have consequences.
His attitude alone demands his dismissal. If he cared at all about the team, he wouldn't even have been there given his situation.
Whether he broke any laws is as irrelevant as his talent. Wanna really help this kid? Then he's gotta go.

But it wasn't a wife and kids - it was 2 guys who didn't look like they had any money - that's why it looks like a prank - like "robbing" a homeless person who you know doesn't have any money. They've been kicked off, but I agree that it looks like a stupid prank.
