Field position, defense, and pounding the rock by both sides. First QB to 3 picks (McElroy) loses.

Even hit Hancock in the side of the head every once in a while.

Quick reads and accurate throws are the key.

As they have shown all year, they will either play well or they will play poorly, but they will play their guts out! Go Big Orange! Play it tight and let Lincoln hit a bomb at the end for the win!! :) Win or lose, Go Vols!

You can bet NO blowout.
This is going to be a nail biter. JC will be the key to UT's suscess. D's are equal. Alabama has similar run game, better Special Teams, and a QB that can be held back with some pressure. Teams with good run games ran up the score more than passing O's. We will obviously run more than pass.
IF THE STARS ALLIGN... UT could make this game more upsetting for BAMMER than we did for Cryer fans. I dont expect Bammer to Cry, they will bring the HEAT! I pray no injuries for boh Teams, this is going to be a BATTLE!
GO VOLS!!!

Bama's defense is better than UT's because of their linebackers. More players on offense with Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, Maze, and McElroy. Still not sold on Crompton, even though he was great 2 wks ago--He must be more consistent. To win UT must:

Limit bigs plays
Stop the run
Special Teams excellence
Limit turnovers
Hardesty big day

UT can do it, but I see Bama winning by at least a TD.
Hope I am wrong.

Statics would conclude a BAMMER win. However in our position with a new system, new coaching staff, atleast 7 Truefreshmen starting all we can do REALLY is hope for a good season (showing growth). SEC champs should be our short term goal and NC with a full recruiting class (3-4YRS).
I think we are on Tack...

This will be a defensive battle. Control Ingram and make McElroy throw and we have a chance. On the other hand if Crompton tags one of his receivers in the side of the head on a slant pattern we could be in trouble!

As much a I would like a Vol win,I'll not kid myself. We do not have the depth nor special team players to hang with Alabama more than a quarter or so.From what I have seen of Alabama,Florida, and Texas,Alabama would have to have a really bad off night to lose to either of those teams.Alabama will win this game by at least 20.I hope this is their off game and our Vols are playing to the Georgia game level. That would be the only way I see them staying close.Alabama is number 1 for a reason and we are not ranked for the oposite reason.

Fryinpansvols writes:

I really think UT has a chance to go to Tuscaloosa and pull the upset. Keys to the game: #1 No Turnovers. JC has to manage the offense and play half as good against Bama as he did against Georgia. On that same token receivers have to catch what hits their hands and help their Quarterback out. Also don't make any mental mistakes that would put your defense in a bad spot. Take what the defense gives you, pound the rock with Hardesty and Brown and roll Crompton out to throw some short passes to receivers. Most importantly, protect the football! #2 Shore up the Special Teams. Don't even kick the ball to Javier Arenas and if you do stay in your coverage lanes on Kick Off and Punt Coverage. You also have to give your punter a good snap and time to get the football away. And lastly #3 Play Mighty Monte Defense! Pressure the QB, tackle well and fly to the football. Greg McElroy hasn't faired well against good defenses this year. Just look at his stats last night against South Carolina 10/20 for 92 yards and 2 picks. He also hasn't seen Mr. Eric Berry who is looking to break the NCAA record for Interception return yards. Vols in a close one 20-17!

You're smoking crack if you think we'll get beat by 20. What's the largest margain of defeat for our team in a game this year? Ten points, 23-13 to Florida. A game in which we had no offense. We only had Hardesty. Vols will win in a close one. We're overdue for these buttholes!

Again, you must not have watched our team play this year. We have been in every game. Having come up short on the three loses by a total of 18 pts, which were caused by no offense. I'm not Vanderbilt and don't celebrate Moral Victories, however our team is better than your giving credit for. You're no real Tennessee fan!

Pressure on their QB; tackle Ingram and anyone else who has the ball; special teams play as if they have actually practiced before; and PLAY TO WIN.

I love the attitude this group now has, and I believe this coaching staff has actually taught our guys so that they do not have to second-guess their actions.

If the attitude from the Georgia game travels onto the field at Alabama with our players and coaches, the Orange will be celebrating Saturday night!

Yeah, rough year for sure. I feel bad for Jeff Fisher. He has been too good a coach for too long to have to put up with this. The Titans played like they had no hands at all. It's funny, but I kept the game on because my wife, who was at the store, loves to watch snowy football games. By the time she got back, my local CBS affiliate had switched to a more competitive game, Bills-Jets, I believe; not entirely sure because I was in the computer room, posting on here(;-P)!

Who knows, maybe our receivers will have their heads and hands up in this game(;-P)! I voted for the close loss, however they labeled it, but a win is not entirely out of the question. However, barring a bad run of injuries, I think the Vols have a good chance of winning ALL the rest. Gotta say both SC and UK showed me more than I expected yesterday, though.

Bama 24 UT 9 This is not Crompton's kind of game, he will be overwhelmed by Bama's d. Vols defense will be on the field a lot, trying to contain Ingram and Richardson. It could be ugly.

One of the things Bear Bryant was the best at was poor-mouthing his own team and talking up the other team during the week before the game. Always describing his upcoming opponent as world-beaters and hoping his struggling, overmatched, banged-up players would be able to at least keep it competitive. Then once the game started, Alabama would demolish their opponent.

I'm not going to come out and say we'll win, but I'm encouraged for 2 reasons:

1 - Our offense appears to be on the up since the end of the Auburn game. They're finally starting to click. I can only hope the trend continues.

2 - We have Lance Thompson on our staff. He will certainly be familiar with their defensive and offensive schemes... could give us a little bit of an advantage.

Only game day will tell.

3. Stop Ingram
4. Flawless Special Teams play

Baryon writes:

I watched the Bama game this Saturday.

It seemed to me that their offense was choking. They only managed to put it away with a TD in the last quarter. The first seven points bama scored was on an INT return early on. They were only leading by two field goals until the last part of the fourth quarter, and the SC offense could not convert and beat them. Once in the red zone they threw THE SAME pass play three times in a row.

Seriously. Had JC been in a position like that (that's Crompton not Crapton), I firmly believe he would have been able to drive it in. Bama is beatable, but it's going to take a good amount of work, especially on special teams. We're going to have to play like we did against Georgia, and hopefully Monte's defense can put a stop them like they did Georgia.

Add UCLA, the UCLA defense forced UT QB into the pocket and had a DE in the QB grill, by eliminating the rollout it takes UT back to a one dimensional offense- RB are solid but MT. Cody does take up the other half of the earth, the other half is garded by Troy Palamoola from the Steelers, my bad Eric Berry :)

I have to go with a final score of 13-10 in favor of the BIG ORANGE!!! The defenses on both sides are great and will not give up many points. This will be your typical UT/Bama game. A dog fight until the very end and the team that wants it the most will pull out the W. I think that Coach Kiffin and company get the biggest win of the season this week. GO VOLS!!!!! BEAT BAMA!!!!!

go_vols_go writes:

Bama is beatable, but the Vols will have to be perfect. Defense needs to hold them to 20. The offense needs to have its best performance of the year. Special Teams needs no big plays against them.

Al_the_Dawg writes:

33-13 Alabama. The Tide will not come out flat and lifeless like Georgia did. Alabama has a much better secondary than Georgia and that will force Tennessee back into one dimensional football. Rush yards are hard to come by against Alabama. Give Monte his props, he has the defense playing well, but its going to be the same old story where they spend 40+ minutes on the field.

Yes, I'm still here. I'm not going away. Win or lose, Bulldog to the core.
