I'm a Vol fan. Went to my first game when I was 3. I don't go into any games expecting to lose. Any game lost is a disappointment. We should have won. The only reason we lost is because we beat ourselves. If we hadn't been doing that all year we'd be undefeated or only have one loss.

I'm not satisfied, there are no moral victories. This sucks, the only way to make it better is to win the next one.

chargervol writes:

I'm not satisfied with a loss, but, that doesn't matter. What does matter is the way the players react. I am sure they wanted to win that game as much, if not more so, than anyone else. The players play to win, regardless of predictions. I just hope the players are motivated to beat s. carolina. By the way they have been playing, I would say they will be looking to get some frustrations out against the gamecocks Saturday night! BOOOOOOO!!! I hope Crompton has a Tee Martin type game, remember when Tee shredded s. carolina on Halloween. GO VOLS!!! P.S. I was not booing the team, the boooo was for Halloween. Again, GO VOLS!!!

don't understand why Alabama did not get a penalty after the game for Terrence Cody and a bunch of alabama players taking off their helmets before the play officially ended. Also, they were celebrating like crazy but I dont think that matters. I'm just confused about the penalty of taking off your helmet. My friends and I were talking about that penalty when it was blown in a high school football game. I heard it was really stressed for referees to blow. Im not so surre why they didn't blow the whistle because that would have put tennessee with a first down and a 28 yard field gol attempt. Tennessee should have won that game and you know it. But could you just clear this up for me if I'm wrong? Thanks! I just want you to post a column about it or somethin, maybe even tell mive slive or somethin, or let it go public, on he air, on espn. That would be great because I think that alot of people are very very confused about this missed call. thanks!

First of all, Great job Big O, for hanging in there and putting yourself in a position to beat the # 1 team in the land! This was a very tough loss, but the game Saturday will go down as one of the great ones in our rich tradition between us and the Tide! It could have gone either way, but the fact that you fellas as a team, family and staff never gave up shows some Class Brass! Win or lose, I'm here for the long haul. My heart goes out to you guys after a tough one like this, but, as the Head Coach say's, this is a time to get better, and we are doing this every week. There is no doubt in my mind that we are the best 3-4 team in the land, and for alot of idiots , it's all a stats game. People overlook the growth and transformation of a team and a program in the making, but I don't! I'm damn proud of your performance Saturday, and if you keep striving for greatness week in and week out, The Big O will win out the remainder of your games. Hold your heads high, and learn from your mistakes! In, the wash out, you will be better men for it and a dominating force on the nationial scheme before you know it! Love you Guys! The Burkester.

Difficult to handle this one. This was a "print" game. One they make a print about. TN-FL 98', etc. Now AL will make the print.
Really think Kiffen froze up. On the 27 with a 1st down and around 44 seconds. We only do 2 plays. A dive and a spike. We definitely needed to spike it first instead of trying to call a play. Kiff had to know we needed more yards.
The penalties hurt. Just hard to believe AL can play a whole game with ONE called penalty. No AL offensive line holds??
But all in all, did we play FL and AL better than we did last year. You bet. We need to win out now. A win against SC would be big. SC thinks they are with FL in the East. (I live in SC). They have been predicting a win over TN all year. They think their two difficult games remaining are FL and Clemson.

I think that JC's reaction after the blocked kick said it all: Stunned Disappointment! The team played a heck of a game, they were coached up and ready, they moved the ball on the best defense in the nation (at least statistically), we just couldn't finish. Again, for the 4th game in a row special teams play was suspect.

I must say, the coaches are doing a very good job at preparing the team to play week in and week out. Correct a few execution problems and we are looking at a 1 loss season. But that is why you play the game!

What do the bones say Witch_Doctor? If the team plays the rest of the season like the last two games do we have a bowl game in our future?

I guess you'd rather have CPF? Did you really expect a national championship just because we changed coaches? Kiffin is recruiting the best players but he can't coach those new recruits until they come on board. You have no sense of realism; must be a generational "I want it now" guy. We all want it now but some of us are wise enough to know you can only do so much without the best players. You should be thankful, like most of us, that these coaches have gotten the best out of who he has. When you only lose to two #1 teams in the same season by a combined 12 pts on-the-road with Fulmer's leftovers, what do you expect? These guys have played within 1 play of beating the #1 team in the nation and you're blew-haha-ing? Geez; get a life! These guys have played their hearts out for you. You're so right, go play the lottery so you can Biatch every time you throw your money away.

Good post Chuck. You hit it square with, "When you only lose to two #1 teams in the same season by a combined 12 pts on-the-road with Fulmer's leftovers, what do you expect? These guys have played within 1 play of beating the #1 team in the nation and you're blew-haha-ing?"

Great effort by the team and coaches. It is encouraging to see the improvement and the attitude of this team.

It was just too important for our program to have officials as pitiful as that bunch calling the game. Alabama got away with so much, and they went out of their way to hurt us when it was critical.

We must beat down these teams early so the officials cannot not affect the outcome. Of course, kicking the ball into the stomach of a defensive player twice did not help, but help is on the way with a real kicker.

Rank this one among Alabama losses.

How many times did UT have a better team and lose a perfect season or lose a conference championship to Alabama?

Do you remember the 6-3 blocked field goal game?

Do you remember volunteer teams which crumbled after a bad break or bad call against Alabama?

I think they should put more real options in these polls and the ability to check "all that apply."

Poll: How would you rate your emotions after Tennessee's 12-10 loss at Alabama?

A. Any loss is inexcusable, especially a loss to Alabama.

B. I am just happy we didn't get blown out by the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide.

C. Coach Kiffin lost this game with his decision favoring a long field goal over running at least two more plays for better position or the TD.

D. Our special teams, especially punt protection, stinks to high heaven.

E. Seeing Nick Saban sweating as he paced up and down the sideline during those last 3 minutes was priceless.

F. I saw a winning spirit in this Vol offensive squad that has been missing for almost 2 years now. I was very encouraged by our team's effort and offensive improvement against the highly ranked Alabama defense.

G. We should cut our losses and fire Lane now.

H. Our offense and defensive squads played well enough to win. This loss is all on our punt protection team. Fix the special teams, and we are a Top 10 team again.

I. We need to pull a "Mike Leach" and hold tryouts for kickers.

J. I am totally devasted. I don't think I will ever recover from this. Our season is over.

K. I cannot believe we actually had a chance to win against this Bama squad. I have never been this excited after a loss.

L. This Vol squad is on the brink of developing a "swagger."

M. Your own reponse: input box.

Okay, maybe we should limit this to 5 responses plus the input box. But I was just brainstorming and got carried away.

Of course I want it now. I want to win. Now. What's wrong with that? We're Tennessee. We're the most prestigious team in the SEC East, one of the winningest programs in the history of football. We are among the greatest in every aspect of the sport. Why should I be happy when we went out there and beat ourselves. We should have won that game. We didn't, so I'm disappointed. Don't you dare count me in with the legions of the miserable just because I'm not content with a high point in mediocrity.

We lost, they didn't beat us, which only makes it worse. And, as I said before, the only way to move on is to focus on and win the next one.

There is a bright future for us until Kiffin takes off back to the left coast for another job and then we will have to hire another and rebuild and start a new system. This loss was bitter. The hated Bama has a much better team but were outcoached and out played and we almost won it. It wouldnt have hurt nearly so much if we had not had a chance at the end. As far as the penalty for excessive celebration-that didnt happen because the game was over. Now, if it hadnt been at Bama, bama would have got three other excessive celebrations that were clear calls during other parts of the game. Bama, no matter who they play in the SEC, gets the calls or dont get the penalties and you can take that to the bank. There is a Bama bias among SEC refs and they can deny it all they want but thats the way it is and has been since the Bear was around.

Look, we really need to get over this should have run a couple of more plays to get closer phooey. Kiffin is right, and you know you would be the first to be critical if he had run two plays and thrown an interception, taken a sack or been penalized outside of field goal range. It was 44 yards! Division 1 kickers have to make that kick, and we'll never know because it never got to the line of scrimmage. Hind sight is 20-20. For me I am on board with this staff and players and refuse to 2nd guess. I suppose with 3:30 to go and Alabama in possession you would not have taken your chances with a 44 yard field goal attempt down by 2?

The effort the team has shown this year has outpaced the previous teams under the former administration. Kiffin and company have found out the same thing Phat Fill realized:it's hard to win with Phat Fill's recruits. But, the team has that special thing inside of them and it is getting more and more apparent--somone knows how to coach 'em. Even Crompton has settled in his position as it has taken a little more time than we all hoped for. One discussion at the Big E that has been going around is with the size of UT's student population there could be one person who could kick field goals and put the ball in the endzone on kickoffs majority of the time. If your kicker is injured there has to be someone somewhere to fill in. At any rate, maybe Jeff Hall will have a bunch of youngens in the near future with strong legs.

You are unrealistic and your attitude is harmful. If you have ever coached or taught, you know that you want to commend improvement and encourage it to be continued. That is the best way to get people to improve - a pat on the back. NO impartial, thoughtful person thought UT would have a chance to win against Bama. No one else has taken Alabama down to the wire and had a chance to beat them. It is better to recognize improvement and praise it when it happens. Don't you think every UT player, coach and fan wants to win? If you have a kid who is realistically a C student and he works his butt off and gets a B+, don't criticize him for not getting an A, praise him. This team will probably win out if they continue to play as they have for the past 2 weeks and that is exciting and far beyond what any of the experts thought was possible. Also, your comments hurt recruiting. Are you sure you aren't a Bama or Florida fan? That's the kind of things they would say because it is a way to make the team's effort look like less than it really was. This "loss" means more to recruiting and to the reputation of the team than beating up on Western KY.

throw2teague writes:

This one hurts! Badly I don't blame kiffen for being upset at the end of the game. As a coach you want to give your team every chance to win. Its a long hard road but there is a light at the end of the tunnel...
