USC is not bowl eligible. You should have read about it. It was in all the papers.

Look for the Vols to play better than the so called "experts" are predicting. To hear them talk, we will be lucky to win four games.

Should Wins: UT-Martin, UAB, Memphis, Kentucky, Vandy

50-50: GA, SC, Ole Miss, LSU, Oregon

Probable Losses: UA, UF

With the inexperience on offense and the lack of depth on defense, if this team wins more than six games it will be a tribute to the coaching staff.

Seriously 6-6. We will win 1 or 2 games we are not favored in to surprise everyone and UTK, UAB, Memphis, UK, Vandy are all W's. UK being the best shot to pull a upset but as usual the Vols find a way to pull out a W in the 2nd half.

Call this orange moonshine if you like, but here's my breakdown:

UT Martin - We win by as many points as we choose. 1-0.
Oregon - I don't see the Oregon thing. Chip Kelly is a so-so coach with talent that should land him in the middle of a so-so conference. I really think we take this one. 2-0.
Florida - We're just not there yet, and unless Brantley is the worst quarterback in the conference, they still are. 2-1.
UAB - Sorry, Blazers. Probably more competitive game than we'd like to see, but we get another win here. 3-1.
@ LSU - Les Miles is best at watching things fall apart around him. Miles gets severely out-coached and we walk out of there with a win, without the 2005-style heroics. 4-1.
@ Georgia - Mark Richt is the new Phil Fulmer. He must finish 2nd in the East to stay out of trouble. He won't. But the season's been rough on UT by this point. We won't be the ones to put him on the hot seat. 4-2
Alabama - Ouch. 4-3.
@ SCar - Again, the schedule gets us. On the other hand, we only lose to one of either SCar or Ole Miss. Take your pick, but I'm calling this one a loss. 4-4.
@ Memphis - A home game, just with better ribs on Beale St. Again, we score as many points as the coaches decide to. 5-4.
Ole Miss - Houston Nutt is a good enough coach to figure out, near the end of the season, that Dexter McCluster is really good. He's not good enough to figure out what to do now that McCluster's gone. 6-4.
@ Vandy - Ouch. But this time, not our ouch. 7-4.
Kentucky - Will always be Kentucky. 8-4.
I count a bowl game in that, so here's the call - If it's in the GA Dome or Tampa, we're toast. If it's a crappy bowl, we're good.
That's 8 or 9 wins, four or five losses. I'll equivocate on the LSU call. So 7 to 9 wins, 4 to 6 six losses. Not the end of the world season that a lot of people are calling for by any means.

Six wins will be difficult with our schedule but then maybe we can get a 7th in a low tier bowl. I hope for more but I am being realistic. Oregon is going to kick our butts.Ole Miss is a must. I hate losing to Spurrier but he will get us this time. I am also guessing that it will be his last year at SC. Everyone in the nation has figured out his offense. If it wasnt for defense he would not have had a winning season at SC. It is telling that no big time QB even gives him a serious look. The only blow will be the first game. UT Martin could be beat by a real good high school team so please dont think we are great when we win that one big. As dumb as Les Miles is they still have to much talent for us this year. We may play bama close but Florida will give us the beat down they wanted to last year. ( I sure hope I am wrong-if we have a QB that can connect with receivers we can stay in the game but so far our QB's are not good in practice)

Looking at it through orange colored glasses. Get real. I have followed UT football religiously for the last 60 years. Would like to think we have a winning season, but realistically would be pleased to win 6 games.
We have no depth and players little experience.

Weatherman writes:

It all rides on Oregon folks. Our momentum will begin, or never start, in this game. A win...we'll roll into the heart of our season with some GAS, a loss, we'll be into the thick of it with doubts. I'm going with a win here, plus 7 more. GO VOLS!

stevefrommemphis writes:

Top ten offensive linemen have a total of three starts and appearances in only 30 games, half on defense. For that reason alone, I don't see any way this team can come up with an upset victory in September. To be effective, even the most talented offensive linemen need experience. October will be tough, given three SEC road trips and the home game vs Alabama. However, by the end of October, hopefully the Vols will have enough experience to pull off a surprise win, maybe at Columbia. Anything better than six wins with a trip to Music City Bowl would be a success.

Wauconda_Vol writes:

Don't worry about wins and losses. Look hard for the talent. Most of all, look for improvement over the season. A strong(ish) second half of the season bodes well for the future. I want a glimpse of what Dooley can deliver in 3-4 years. Eventually, everyone takes their beating. Learning and improving as a result of that beating equals character and coaching. That's the direction we need to be heading.

8-4 or 7-5 . . . will most likely loose to Fla. Ala.& then up for grabs will be Oregon, LSU, SC, Ga.& Ole Miss. I say we come out of those 3-2 but possibly 2-3. These 5 games will make or break the season. Add the loses from Fla & Bama = 3-4 or 2-5, and we should beat UTM, Memphis,UAB, Vandy, Kentucky, which ends in a 8-4 or 7-5 season. I think if we stay healthy and the o-line develops 8-4 is very possible

VandyGrad got confused. He thought it meant how many games would Commodore High win this season, which explains the less than 2.

TennVolAlum writes:

Tenn should easily beat UT-Martin based on athletic ability alone.

UAB, Memphis, and Vandy should give us some problems, and I predict those games will be close enough to make folks uncomfortable.

Kentucky? Is this the year they break the streak?--it's probably the best shot they've had to do it in long time.

Oregon, UGA, LSU, Ole Miss have the uppper edge on us for nothing else than stability within their program.

South Carolina (Spurrier) provided the bulletin board material for the Vols to win this one.

Bama and UF have the talent and tools to beat Tenn soundly, but UT was only a field goal away from knocking off the eventual national champs (at THEIR home) last year.

Just goes to show that anything can happen in college football!! This includes Appy State beating Michigan....so don't take UT-Martin lightly VOLS!!!

VOLliven2it writes:

Either way, win or lose, I am all out for the Vols. Oregon would be easily winnable except that it is so early, which helps FL against us nearly every year. Oregon is a tough toss up. FL, we'll just be playing completely over our heads to win and their having an off day. By the time they smash their first two victims, they are ready. We will have struggled hard with Oregon. UAB, Vandy, Memphis should be wins. We are out-talented and out experienced with GA, SoCar., AL, LSU, and UK. That will make all those games really tough, especially ones on the road. Ole Miss has a few issues themselves and we have them at home. I see 4 for certain and 1 or 2 upsets of unlikely wins. If in the variables for instance UK and Ole Miss we could steal one we might, I say might, get 7 wins. I will take everyone, hope for more, and be glad we make good efforts even when greatly overmatched.
In only days, all talk is off and we get it going! Then in only a short time we will see where we really are. GO VOLS!

EMBuckles writes:

I think that it is entirely possible that the Vols could win enough games to go to a bowl game and then win the bowl game as well. U.T.M- win with backups getting some playing time.
1-0
Oregon-win in a close game
2-0
Florida- win, the gators (and experts) are stunned
3-0
U.A.B- comfortable win
4-0
L.S.U- loss, young Mr. Simms has never seen a hostile crowd like he will in Red Stick
4-1
Georgia- win, after the insanity at L.S.U, Georgia is downright inviting
5-1
Alabama-win, and Dr Lou passes out on ESPN
6-1
S.C -win, the times they have changed for the "old ball coach'
7-1
Memphis-win, nothing more to say.
8-1
Ole Miss-loss, as bad as I hate it, the length of the season, the tough early schedule and our lack of depth take its' toll. By then, Massolli has adjusted to the speed of the SEC and the cooler weather will allow him to have a career day.
8-2
Vandy-win
9-2
U.K-win
10-2
SEC Championship game-close win over Auburn

Posts have been fun to read and prognosticators even funnier. Most prognosticators did not even watch a UT game last year. But with that said many folks are posting about the lack of talent on this team. I beg to differ. There is a lot of talent within this group of young men, but as the cards have fallen we are learning about the 1 year Kitten phenomenon. He played his favorites and many rode the bench last year that would have started for another coach. Just because we have not seen them does not mean they are not talented. It appears many of the kitten favorites jumped ship, because they new their playing time was going to be limited under new leadership. Once the talent gels, the Big Orange will suprise. A new attitude is being developed with this group of young men and I personally can't wait to see it. UT-Martin will not show us anything, just as Wky showed us nothing last year about that team.
