Mr. AD, please see the above results. VOLS DON'T RUN. It is in the history of our name.

I somewhat understand why he wants to do it, but I DO NOT like it at all. It would only make us better in the long run.
GO VOLS!!!!!!!!

Demand for tickets at both places will exceed the tickets available. THE TAR HEELS SHOULD REQUIRE $2.0 Million to DROP THIS GAME due to the following information:
The University of North Carolina is ranked No. 18 in the 2010 USA Today Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, which was released Friday morning. The Tar Heels received 455 points to earn their highest preseason ranking since 1998.
Carolina returns 19 starters from last year's 8-5 team that advanced to its second-straight Meineke Car Care Bowl. Nine starters return on a defense that ranked No. 6 in the country in total yards allowed and was in the top 20 in every major defensive statistical category.
Five of Carolina's 12 regular-season opponents begin the season in the top 25 poll, including No. 6 Virginia Tech, No. 13 Miami, No. 16 LSU, No. 17 Georgia Tech and No. 20 Florida State. Carolina faces LSU in the season-opening Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on Sept. 4, followed by Georgia Tech at Kenan Stadium two weeks later.
UT standup for yourself, Play teams in your league or are we in this just for the money?

I've got friends and family that live in NC and was looking forward to the matchup...(I even have a neighbor that was overlooked by UT and played for UNC, whom now plays for the Atlanta Falcons, smart move Fulmer).. and these people will crucify me and UT for RUNNING SCARED!
College football at UT is quickly becoming unattractive!!!!

My dad always taught me to never back down from a fight even if the dude had 6 inches on me and 50 pounds. Very disappointed with this news. Bad time to break to it as well...right before the season is about to start.

The Vols need to go ahead and play North Carolina. It'll be good for 'em and most people could not care less about Buffalo. If they want an easier team to play, they should try to schedule Army (West Point). At least Tennessee has had some US Miliary Academy connections, over the years, and people would be interested in the game.

There once was a time when our proud Vols were trying to get easy games like this one on our schedule. Now that they have gotten better than us (in the Polls)we don't want to play'em. Wrong message sent, please re-evaluate!
SummittsCourt writes:
This is silly. I've always been proud of UT's non-conference schedule. Playing teams like Oregon, California, Nebraska, Notre Dame have been great. Playing teams like Tennessee-Martin and Buffalo is a joke and an embarrassment to the University. Money is not everything hammy, competition is great for all.

When is Hamilton going to be held accountable for his poor performance. Pearl is his only bright spot, and that's wearing thin. His handling of the Fulmer situation was horrible, his hiring of Kiffen even worse, and now he wants to buy his way into a bowl game. And don't forget Todd Raleigh. There is something seriously wrong with the baseball program.
Hamilton has personally managed Tennessee to the lower levels of college athletics and made us the laughing stock of the nation. HE HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!

As a native of Tennessee and a life-long Vols fan
who has lived in NC for many years I must say I am disappointed in this "back-out". I'm a NC fan too - but the Vols are #1 always, and I would have loved this game to be played. Sure, other schools back out at times to get easier teams for a more sure win, but they do so with a loss
of an opportunity to beat a more challenging opponent.

Mike Hamilton....one step closer to the unemployment line.

As a Vol fan living in NC, I was so looking forward to this. Just another nail in the career coffin for Hammy. BOYCOTT THE BUFFALO GAME!!!

This is cut from the same cloth as when Hamilton turned down the USC game. He is like the Rump Parliament:
"You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately ... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"
Hamilton needs to be let go. He continually makes bad decisions. This is at least strike four.

I found out recently that I had the same faculty advisor as Coach Fulmer - Dr. Milton Klein, a really great History professor back in that time frame.

I don't know if Hamilton realizes this, but playin Buffalo wont make us any better when we play Florida and Bama later in the schedule. COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!!! Play better teams or us fans will not tolerate it. I dont want to become like Florida that doesnt play anybody out of their state(non-conference).

This is what happens when a Clemson guy not named Danny Ford is running a REAL athletic department...he gets rid of a national championship winner for a guy who's biggest asset is his last name and then he gets out of playing UNC to schedule Buffalo...it's bad enough that UT-M is on the schedule this season.

I have been saying this for years. Hamilton is the main reason we have sunk this low in football and self-esteem. I guess he has to be caught with a working girl and drunk to lose his job. He is killing Tn Football and being paid well to do so. Wake up fans.
AirForceVol2786 writes:
Its such a terrible idea to cancel this game! I mean why drop a potential loss to pick up a sure win? Whats the logic? We as Vol fans don't want an 8th home game. Its not like the extra home game and the resulting revenue from the bowl game we will attend, won't help a rebuilding program. I also agree that we should boycott the Buffalo game. I mean potential recruits love to see die-hard Vols fans refusing to go to the games. So good job Vol fans, lets get a man fired who has been instrumental in upgrading our facilities to astonishing levels. Because we all know that hiring coaches is the only thing an AD does. Best fans anywhere....Go Vols!
lvhemphill#250428 writes:
Get over it we're down their up, it happens all the time. I disagree with some that aid it only makes us better, playing undermanned from the poor recruiting whether talent or character under Fulmer does mire harm than good. I do believe we only asked to move it they purposed the buy out. To play it might hurt our recruiting and elvate their recruiting in their home state. That is in the long run best for our interest. I'd rather soften our schedule and play for championships than this pride thing. To me being a military history nut I can see one of the reasons the South lost the Civil War, pride in making those foolish charges when to win they need to hide shoot them in the back and string the war along till the north grew tired, but that's not the quote honorable way. Winning the war is more important than honor in my book. So, here here, my full support Hamilton one of the best moves you've ever made.

Watch out for this guy in a bar. He's the kind that'll hit you over the back of the head with a bottle when you're not looking.
It's disgraceful and embarrassing to not only back out of a game cause some higher ups thinks it's too tough, but to pay to back out...come on! I've bled orange since I went to my first game at age 8, almost 30 years ago. I've never been embarrassed about my team like I am now.

As much as we hate to admit it college football is a victim of its own success. With so much $$$ being pumped into the big conferences from the lavish TV contracts it is not surprising to see football programs drop tough non-conference games for easy wins so they can get enough wins to make it to bowl games. Florida has followed this game-plan by playing the Little Sisters of the Poor so they just have to make it through the SEC schedule to advance to the SEC Championship Game which could lead to a BCS Championship Game if they win. While we may respect the Vols for playing a tough non-conference schedule but it only helps if we win those games. Right now our team is trying to recover from several tumultuous years that weakened the program. So while I hate this choice in my gut I understand why Hamilton felt he had to make the switch from UNC to Buffalo. College Football is big business which leads to these types of business decisions and I don't see that reality changing anytime soon as the pot of cash is only going to grow as the bigger schools break out of their current conferences forming maybe 4 or 5 super conferences. The times they are a changing.

I don't think he is a joke, but I do think he has made a series of bad decisions. He hired Kiffin when better talent was available. He hired Dooley who had a losing record. Now, he has all but admitted he thinks UT would lose to NC, so that game needs to be removed and replaced with a team like Buffalo so it could create a win. Why did the AD schedule a bunch of really tough teams if he thinks UT will lose those games. They were scheduled during the Fulmer era when the team was up and down from year to year.
