I gave them a B because I am thinking B+. If we had signed some more OLs and DLs I would have ranked the class as an A.

Very smooth for signing day - I like this lack of drama that Dooley brings to the table.

A+...

I don't understand how anyone could grade this signing class any lower than a B considering the turmoil Coach Kitten caused a few weeks ago. I think that Coach DD has done an OUTSTANDING job!!! GO VOLS!!!

A- to B for now. I think any school in the second five of the Rivals Top Ten would be in this range.

Not having a DC/DL coaches in place hurt us with DL's. Its bad timing all the way around. But not knowing who the DC/DL coaches were would have certainly made me think twice.

F stands for Florida. The few people that grade this class an F are likely from there

I gave them an A because of time restraints. Let's face it, any Top 10 class is good for UT. Just look at the Top 10 this year. Alabama, Florida, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, USC....all nationally prominent programs, all BCS champions since 2000, all perennial pre-season Top 10 rankings, and all with long histories of winning big and recruiting big. Auburn is an anomaly, as is Penn State but still, the fact that we made it into that group with the time restrictions, incomplete staff, and most of our visits already used up.... I think it speaks highly of DD and his abilities. I doubt many, if any, of us thought three weeks ago that we could be here on NSD. I am concerned about the lack of big uglies but that won't really show up unless we have a similar signing class next year. My bet is that half of next year's (smaller) class will be O and D linemen and linebackers. Good job, DD. Go Vols!!!

Depends on your perspective. If you want to be an 7-5 team, this is an A-class.

But, if we are going to make a run at the title, then this is a C-class. To win national championships, we need 5-star offensive and defensive linemen. We don't have them...so I don't see how this could be considered an A-class.

When looking at this objectively, this class will help us maintain... but it's not moving us "up" in the competitive ranks. It's an 8-4, 7-5 class.

True, I voted B also wished we had picked up more O&D linemen, someone has to protect these QB's. And rush other teams

BigBadVol writes:

We signed the top WR class in the nation. Yea this class really sucks. NOT! Go Vols!

SandySpringsVol writes:

I gave them an A, but it's really an A-. Would like to have had some more D-linemen, but taking Rogers from Georgia, Stone over Alabama, Neal from Mississippi State while holding onto Hunter, Dixon, James, Smith and others in just a little over two weeks time is incredible.

Way to go Coach D and staff!

Anyone know the ranking of the classes leading up to the 1998 NC team?

Every recruiting class in the country gets an incomplete. Let's see how the coaching staff prepares these athletes for games before assigning a grade.
What is now most important is completing the coaching staff and implementing Coach Dooley's system. Those grades will be posted in December, 2010 - but there will be midterm evaluations.

Decent class, some disappointments that would have elevated the class to A status.. I gave it
a B rating, but there is some hope and potential in some of those 2/3 stars that could fool us all.

Coach DD has done a great job. Copeland and Stanley were both big losses but overall a great class. We will need all the big guys we can get next year. If it were raining $5 bills, some people would be complaining that it's not raining tens.

You get top recruits by being a top program. Given UT's 7-6 record and the fact that three weeks ago today, Derek Dooley was just interviewing for Tennessee's head coaching job, to record a top ten recruiting class is pretty phenomenal.

Now it's time to see what Dooley and staff can do with what they've got.

Dooley had to hold the class together, recruit, recruit, and he did it. I am not sure if he could do anymore than he did with the time constraint, and you have to believe his two mainstays at coach was a great choice.

You are absolutely right! A class like this in 5 years might be a C+, but CDD hit it out of the park given the situation. If he can salvage this class in two weeks, imagine what he will be able to do at full speed. I like it!

Funny how some of the fans suggested giving up football altogether after X jumped ship.

Yes, this program IS bigger than anybody in it.

I agree with you, MoTown, about what CDD has done since he has taken over for the unnamed one. But, based on the needs of the team for the next couple of year, I still give the class a B.

As far as ranking of an offensive line prospect, it can be misleading. The developement of that player when he gets to college can sometimes turn a one star into a FIVE star, and sometimes a FIVE star doesn't look like a FIVE star when he gets to college. The OL coach is very important along with the strength and conditioning coach, and hopefully they will be able to meet the needs of these young men. HEART is what is important when you get to college football, you got to be ready to develop yourself on the highest level possible. GO BIG ORANGE! HEART WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!

For a team with a Quarterback that couldn't pass to himself for half a season last year...we just hauled in the best WR recruiting class in the country. Considering that UT had to deal with Kiffin trying to blow up our ship and a relatively unproven head coach...and NO FREAKING DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR...UT just landed the #8 class in the country.

That deserves an "A" in my book.

pdhuff#552644 writes:

Voted a B on actual results. Copeland would have made it an A.

Give an A to Dooley's effort in that constricted time frame.

GBO.
