Dooley said in his press conf they were going to get the ball to Hunter, Da'Rick and Neal a lot more.
We went 2-2 last October against similar odds. We almost went 3-1 losing a close one in Tuscaloosa.
This October will be better.
We are going to suprise some damn people.
We will upset Alabama in Neyland.
Tear down the goal posts and carry Dooley off the field.
spacehistorian writes:
This team has the potential to surprise one of the next 4 teams as all of them (except maybe Georgia) will not take them seriously which could allow a fired up Tennessee team to pull off an upset. I wouldn't "book it" but I wouldn't be surprised either. It is going to be a very tough October but the kids will get valuable game experience for November which is where this team will need to perform to get to 6-6.
mbible1utk#324980 writes:
very tough road, the best team we play at home, the three we might have a chance to beat we play on the road. I think we steal one win, would be shocked to see us get two.
Most likely to beat- Georgia
Next likely to beat- LSU
Next...-South Carolina
Least likely- Alabama.
GOPROKID writes:
The SEC road is a difficult place to win unless your last name is Meyer.
UT gave you what they had left against UAB. Did I really see a receiver getting carried off the field for beating UAB in double overtime?? Oh for the good ol' days when "we're playin like heck" and "we just need to stay the course".
VolinCalif writes:
Yes mdv I think that the Vols did surprise people this past Sat. I was one of them. UAB is a gutty team but they should have never come that close to beating the Vols. WE couldn't Catch, we couldn't tackle, We couldn't stop a pass fact is there was very little that we could do and UAB didn't have a lot to do with it. We just stunk. But I will say that
Simms put a lot of balls in the correct place and if our Rec's had held on to them we would have won easily. Maybe we were just flat after those two big games. Who knows we'll see this Sat.
Go Vols

I want to see the results of a big win over LSU or South Carolina. I think a win over one of those rivals would get this team where it needs to be mentally.
born2ride writes:
0-4 unless we get lucky in a game.
Will beat Memphis, Ole Miss, Vandy and Kentucky.
6-6 gets a bowl game.
Would be considered a good year for Dooley after Kiffin leaving.
NoSirRee writes:
Will you stop saying the same thing over and over again after we don't surprise some "damn" people? Or will you change it to Kentucky and Vandy?

What are the ones that voted 4-0 tripping on?

Most games are about matchups. UAB ran the hurry up spread sort of like Oregon and wore down the defense further exascerbating our depth issues. LSU runs the football and has a quarterback that, in my opinion, is not even as good as Simms. If we don't let him scramble for 1st downs - like we did Matt Mauck in the SEC Championship game (yes that loss haunts me more than any) - LSU won't have the 3rd down success UAB did. The key is no turnovers and for Pete's sake, DO NOT KICK IT, PUNT IT, or THROW IT toward Patrick Peterson.
Remember, it's not a night game and the LSU fans will be booing their QB after his 3rd incompletion. Les Miles is in more trouble than Mark Richt. (Why? Because LSU fans just don't like him). LSU tried to give away 2 games already this year and their confidence is no better than ours.
We got a better than good shot at LSU and that is our best opportunity. But, with confidence from a win in Baton Rouge, we could muster a fight with Georgia. They are on the ropes. Let's just get the win Saturday and take them 1 at a time.

If we go 4-0 I will streak onto the field the first game of November .. NO JOKE!
VolnAL writes:
Could not tackle was an understatement. The defense must wear vasoline on their hands and gloves or UAB had it on their uniforms!
scvols writes:
Listen, we are really bad, maybe not as bad as Vandy, but bad. We have no depth on the OL and DL. LSU, SC, GA, and AL have recruited very well and will beat us. OM, KY, and Vandy will be a toss up. I do feel we can go 6-6 and make it to a bowl, but it will be close.
jobrando#216494 writes:
Not bad....80 percent on this board have accepted this season. Going to be a dog fight between Vandy, Kentucky, and the VOLS for the last spot. I still hope for 6-6 but that could go south. You are wasting your time trying to ruffle feathers now we know this team is sorry. Just like Alabama went down in the nineties and rose back to the top years later so will the VOLS. My wife and Vandy friends are still waiting for Vandy to return and that was ??? Dan McGugin starting in 1904 and compiled a .762 win percentage. It's fairly hopeless. Agree?
jobrando#216494 writes:
Dont knock the 0-34. It's a NCAA div 1A record. Chavis will let us break the string Saturday.
Rockytop38 writes:
I am a big Vol fan, but the game Saturday left a bad taste in my mouth. Have been following the Vols since my pre-teen days, it was not all Simms fault in the passing game. A lot of dropped balls, the tackling was about as bad as I have seen, but please don't get upset with me because the next four games will be tough to pull out a win. To do that we have GOT to play better than we did Saturday. Hopefully Poole will be back. Go Vols!
vol98champ writes:
All 4 of these teams have more talent, much more depth, and at least as good or better coaching, but somehow I think we will win 1.

I remember seeing an ad in a Southern Living magazine. It was for some brand of booze. It showed a picture of UT playing Vanderbilt a number of years ago. It said, "This whiskey was put in the barrel the last time Vanderbilt beat Tennessee in Knoxville!" At that time it had been a LONG time since the Vandy Dandies had beaten the Vols in either Knoxville or Nashville. See, Tennessee needs to keep the current record of defeats of the Commode Doors going so that whiskey will be nice and SMOOTH! And, as Witch Doctor says, "bones never lie"! ;>

I'm sure they were thinking 4 losses, 0 wins.

You are a lot worse than Vandy. TN will beat Memphis and Ole Miss and finish 4-8.
Still a couple of years away from being good. I think it will happen for the Vols, but not yet.

We'd all watch if it meant we could go 4-0. Sometimes the fans have to take one for the team...

I am not seeing a win in Oct. Sorry to admit it. If GA was not so hungry we might have a shot at them. What I saw on Sat. from the stands is a team that could pull off maybe one big win but then might regress and lose most of the rest of their games. I had really thought 6-6 but am not sure now. Kentucky is not a for certain win. They have been a bit better than us for awhile but just could not get over the hump. We will have all we can do to get that win. Do not count out Ole Miss by that time of year. Even Vandy is a bit better than usual. So it will be tough. I would love to see 1-3 in Oct. but just cannot feel it will happen. Still the games have to be played and I can always hope. As for Bama, I do not think this is the year we upset them but it would be fantastic!
pigskinnut4vols writes:
I am saying 1-3 being hopeful. UAB pushed us around like a C-USA team! I love my Vols but I just dont see it happening.
LSU- Chavis is chomping at the bit!
UGA- Richt will be fighting for his job, he will have them up for us.
Alabama- Yeah right!
S. Carolina- (I wont diss them enough to call them USC) I dont see it either. After the long road to this game, even with the break before Bama, we are going to be gassed.
OwensboroVol writes:
These kids are fighters. However, there are only a few with the experience and talent to be able to take it to an opponent. Fortunately, Gerald Jones should be returning shortly and if not for Denarius Moore things could really be bad right now. (And to think that everyone thought he was being signed just to get L. Creer to come to Tennessee). I was really disappointed in the Defense Secondary Saturday. I thought they gave up way to many big plays. One player back there isn't enough to prevent a decent offense from walking up and down the field. I'm still optimistic about next year. We are playing an incredible amount of young players with a lot of talent and next year they'll just have a lot of talent.

no matter how hard you try to trash talk, no one will take you seriously... you're a Vandy grad and therefore have no room to say anything. Vandy will take their usual place in the cellar by seasons end.
BigOrangeFreak writes:
Amen Byrd, I'm optimistic too, but 62 people think we can go undefeated with THIS TEAM against LSU, BAMA, and South Carolina?
I will give em a win over UGA right now, but somebody's smokin some of Witch Doctor's stuff right now if they truly believe 4-0 is possible.
1-3 is very likely (with the aforementioned win over the lowly Dawgs.) 2-2 is possible with LSU being the next most likely win as they SUCK on offense.
GBO! Play 4qtrs against LSU this week!

I hope Mikey Hamilton enjoys the game this weekend! This is the weekend John Chavis gets his revenge on ungrateful U.T. Vols will go 0-4 in October. Bet on it!
(Maybe if the entire Georgia offense get suspended for selling jerseys, we might win that one.)

If we can't put up close to 150 yards rushing in these games then we'll be lucky to win one..I didn't see the whole UAB game but the blocking was pretty pitiful; They are young but with the excellent OLine coach we have they at least should know to hold the block more than 2 seconds!!!After our defense watched the embarrasing UAB film I think they will come in fired up..The intangible is: Sometimes teams like this thrive on road games
