No doubt about it. Pearl made a mistake, a big one, and is moving forward, being a man about it and taking his lumps in front of the world. And now, his own boss goes public to the point the ESPN ran the story over and over and over again - as they should. Hamilton should not be employed by UT tomorrow. He is a disaster and needs to go now. Period.

Agreed. Pearl should stay...Hamilton should go!

Hamilton's a good guy. I like him as a person, but this has gone far enough.

Pearl made a mistake, but he's moving on and making things better. If I had to pick between Pearl and Hamilton, I pick Pearl. He's the heart and soul of our basketball team, and I'd be willing to bet that he won't get caught for any more major violations in the future.

Hamilton has really put his foot in his mouth with the way he's been going about this situation.

I vote for either Condredge Holloway or Phillip Fulmer to take over the AD position!

I've never been a Hamilton hater but he stabbed the backs of our players, not just Bruce. I say keep Bruce without a doubt even if we have to have an interim coach for a year.

IF we have to have an interim coach, the NCAA had better give Tressel TWO years. Everyone but OSU fans says what he did is far worse. He lied, he covered up, he played ineligible players. In typical NCAA fashion, I'm sure they'll do nothing to them though.

I met Mike at SEC coaches event in Destin. I just happened to be there with the family on vacation. I recognized him and greeted him. He couldn't have been more stand offish and full of himself. A classless jerk. He's the idiot that drew up Kiffins contract with no protection for UT. Fire HIM

Bruce made a major mistake, and Hamilton today
also made a huge mistake.. Hamilton should have taken the high road, keep his mouth shut, and after the season ends deal with the Bruce situation in whatever was in the schools best interest. Remember, Bruce Pearl will always have a black mark associated with him for the future because of his lies to NCAA.

tdvol1989 writes:

Well, Pearl's excuse was he came clean before he was officially caught. As far as I am concerned, Hammy needs to save Pearl before he is officially gone. I have not been critical of Hamilton's coaching decisions. I was ready for Fulmer to go. Kiffin is and was a doosher, but with the staff he brought, it was sort of worth the risk. So far so good on Dooley. Pearl was a good hire (even if he screwed it up). But this statement at this time was just plain stupid. And, someone...over his head...called him on it. Else, he would not have apologized. No one, and I mean no one had anything to gain from having our struggling, but capable, BBall players answering questions about Pearl's future before an NCAA Tourney game. That is almost the equivalent of throwing the game.

So, given the choice, heck yes Pearl over Hamilton. In all fairness, it appears Pearl is the one with issues over the contract. But, if he said he wasn't sure he wanted to come back in a press conference this week, I'd fire him. But, it was Hamilton, the sabateur.

We are as much a laughing stock now as if we got beat by 40 in the 1st round. Thanks Mike.

CBP has only screwed up in one sport. Hamilton has screwed up in all of them. So my vote goes to CBP, the lesser of two evils.

Hamilton or Pearl won't be fired until Haslam says so. You guys can hate all you want but you are hating the wrong guy. Our worthless govenor and his family OWN Tennessee sports and they call the shots. As long as Hamilton licks the dirt of of Haslam's shoes, Hammy will stay. IF Pearl does well in the big dance he will stay. If Pearl loses to Michigan (which they will) Pearl will go.

Hammy put the curse on the Vols for today's game. Michigan will rain 3 pointers on the Vols much like College of Charleston did.

Vols go down easily by 12 points this afternoon.
Bruce Pearl either resigns or is fired.
Hammy is fired in a few weeks.

I hope I am totally wrong but my alphabet cereal said so this morning.

The common denominator between Bruce Pearl and Lane Kiffin is Mike Hamilton. I have been a Bruce fan from day one and no one can argue that he has brought excitement to BB in K'ville and has been a driving influence in the community but when you break the rules (for no apparent reason) then you and everyone who respects you have to pay the price. As much as I have respected CBP, I think this he and Mike Hamilton should go--Mike Hamilton should go NOW!!!

leedsvol2007 writes:

Pearl is talented and going through a bad time. When we look in our closets I am sure we see things we did that we are not proud of and left undone that should have been done.

If Pearl can be saved he should but he also needs to learn he needs to err on the side of caution.

Hamilton is not all bad but he repeated his Fulmer mistake with his statement on Bruce Pearl.

Personally I thought at first Kiffin was a good hire, young, bright, energetic but the one thing he lacked was judgment borne from a little experience.

I think Dooley will prove to be an excellent hire he has the positive qualities of Kiffin tempered with better judgment.

Ironically I think Hamilton and Pearl's futures are now linked. If Pearl goes Hamilton will go with him due to this incident.

What was Mike Hamilton thinking....making a statement like that just before the NCAA Tournament game? Was that supposed to be good for team morale?

Obviously the buck stops at any level below Mike Hamilton. Pearl was definitely in the wrong in his conduct with the NCAA but Hamilton is worse in his management of the Athletic Dept. It is time for somebody to fire Mike Hamilton, if anyone has control over him.

Speaking in a friendly yet frank way, "and Doug Dickey didn't have enough of a business pedigree?" General Neyland, who was, by training, an engineer, didn't? I could go on, however, I think that, oftentimes, someone who has "been there, done that" needs to become the head honcho, not someone who has a business degree but has never been on the court or on the field with athletes coaching a team. You can always hire someone with business and/or accounting background, etc. to be the assistant to the head person. Also, for the President of a college or university or the head of an athletics department or a head coach of a team, my preference would be an alumnus or alumna of the college or university. Not saying someone from another college or university cannot do the job, just that someone who is an alumnus or alumna is going to have a much better insight into the college or university, much more loyalty to the college or university than someone who attended college elsewhere. In other words, I think that - if Hamilton leaves (which, at this point, I tend to doubt will happen any time soon) - Fulmer would be prefect for the job. All that said, and even so, while I may be surprised, I suspect that Hamilton and Pearl may well be there for quite some time to come. Be interesting to see how it all works out.
