Maybe my computer is getting old. I don't see gray, I see a dark blue! Anyway, like I voted, as long as they win! Maybe this will help these young whippersnappers decide when they are recruited. Go Big Orange?

First dumb move Butch has made since letting Jay Grahm escape. I thought we were above that!!! We are not Oregon or Boise State we have a rich tradition built on fundamentals not semantics. Bet you don't see Alabama selling out to Adidas. No ties to Tennessee or our traditions if you want to look good Butch Win !!!! This isn't a fashion show it's football....

arkyvol writes:

yeah, sure. let's finish the job hammy and orange pants started. burn every tradition the vols were once known for. bama will keep looking like bama (and playing like it), ditto lsu, florida, and georgia. the vols will field a collection of emitt kellys.

can't you guys see that all adidas is interested in is selling uniforms?

1bigvolman writes:

I HATE HATE HATE it!!!!! I agree arkyvol, except, take Ga off that list, they don't stick with their traditional uni's either!

NEW COACH, NEW UNIFORMS. I HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED THE VOLS AND I STILL WILL. BUT I WANT TO SAY 1 THING. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PRESENT UNIFORMS. THE VOLS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ORANGE AND WHITE AND THEY HAVE FILLED THE STADIUM MANY TIMES. WHY RISK MAKING SOME FANS ANGRY WITH A UNIFORM CHANGE WHEN THERE IS NO REASON. SO FAR I SUPPORT OR AT LEAST DID SUPPORT THE NEW COACH UNTIL NOW. SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE COLOR WAS MENTIONED. ORANGE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE COLORS BECAUSE OF THE VOLS. YOU ARE MESSING WITH TRADITION.

Bubby_Huggins writes:

You can't sell tradition to these young kids today. College football is about recruiting and sorry fellas but new uniforms help in that area. Why not try and be a part of a new tradition?

NashvillePreds writes:

It's all about satisfying the desires of 18-19 year old recruits. If you "hate" the uniforms, you're not paying attention to the audience for whom the uniforms were created.

Rise to the Top
Go Vols

Like I said on the other page my colors in college were blue and gold. I love the mocs then and still do and they're still blue and gold. I love orange and white even better most days because I was an orange and white fan before I knew there was a blue and gold. Tradition is mostly for the older generations...like me. But keep in mind money comes also from the older generation...not like me.

ebrownvol writes:

Hated it when I posted in the first article - still HATE it. We are Orange & White. NOT black or gray. Coach originally told us minor changes but not changing traditions. Well, this is NOT a minor change. Could hardly watch the field the last time we wore black. Will HATE it just as much or more this time.

SummittsCourt writes:

Give it a break haters. The uniforms look good. Time to realize you traditionalist are being left behind. You want better recruits? this is a way to get them.

I am glad someone put this on here. I hate to tell all of you "Tradition" fans, gray jersys were worn by some of the very first vols. You need to do some catching up on your history before you start judging! Below is a link to see the circle of jerseys.

Like I said in the other post, how many of the people that are griping, went absolutely bonkers on Halloween night 2009 when the Vols came charging out of the gate in black jerseys? You know, that was one game as well? If I remember correctly, we put a stompin' on ole Spurrier and his chickens, 31-13.

I looked at a live video and the uniforms are actually GREY so looking good Vols! Hope this helps with your recruiting and winning! GBO!

Jones hasn't even coached a game in the SEC..Thought the athletic dept. could use the money more wisely.....ORANGE and White...GRAY IS ABSOLUTELY UGLY..Jones had to reveal these ugly things..at least Kiffin made it a SHOCKER..not a big announcement....I know one recruit from FL that didn't suggest the color of the uniform would help them come to TN..Coaches recruit NOT the color of uniforms

Amen. This is all about selling new caps, shirts and phooey. It is not about UT or tradition. Butch Jones should be ashamed. How many other traditions is he going to throw under the bus?

These UGLY gray uniforms will get more recruits????? Guess that means Jones and his Cincy crew won't do much in the SEC...as for the 1900's comments how many of you attended those games

NGage writes:

The new uniform, IMO, looks good (not as good or historical as the black jerseys we wore against South Carolina)...but not sure how much I actually like them. I would have rather them go back to one of our historical uniforms from way back when...preferably one of the ones with black on 'em. Something like 1903, 1911, 1914, or even 1925 or 1971 when they were orange/white.

LovinMyVols writes:

Why would the fan base be divided? Because people don't realize that these ARE part of UT's colors?

Because they don't realize that in the early 1900's the uniforms were Grey?

Be inclusive people! Get behind your program!

Now..if he had chosen a non school color, then we would have an issue!

an 18 year old should be thinking about a free pass to a college education not the color a football uniform...This is an example of just an itty bitty change
Butch Jones will do..so he said...But, if he's not a winner this year like he thinks he will be...fans will accept them at the end of another GRAY season

I would have loved to see them use one of those as the "new" uniform.

This is the WORST decision the new Coach or Hart or whomever has made! I sure hope they only wear them to ONE away game & discard them this year!

Vols are about TRADITION. We are BIG ORANGE! And that is Orange and White!!! I don't recall seeing the Orange & Grey or Orange & Blue or Black bookstore when I was on campus. Go back to the true Tennessee Colors, Orange & White!

Please! All Vols - Orange & White !!!

Judging by the poll I would say the fan base isn't divided. 80% of the fans either love it or don't care if it helps land recruits/win. It is time to get with the times...

You can say whatever you want about what 18 year olds SHOULD be thinking about but that doesn't change what they ARE thinking about. I don't know if you have checked but we have been smoked in the recruiting wars the past few years. You're crazy if you don't think Butch was already showing these to the latest batch of recruits behind the scenes...looks like it is working to me.

I cannot disagree. this change is coming like it or not. I simply question the timing to announce. everyone for once in a long time were on the same page heading in to the season. now there is division.

People relax!!! They will only be worn 1 or 2 games this year. It's a SCHOOL COLOR for crying out loud. I think they look great and if it excites the team, recruits, and the fan base then I'm all in..

Don't be an "old fuddy duddy"...embrace the change...it's a new generation. What would have happened if we had never given up the old wool uniforms and leather helmets?...I bleed orange, but it was time for something new...NOT every game, but every now and then...the orange and white uniforms look the best they ever have...especially the new white ones! It will all be okay once we start winning again! :-)

You are 1,000% correct. Coach Jones has put together a string of "everything rights" since arriving on the Hill. He's gone a long way towards pulling together a fan base suffering from deep-seated divisions on account of what many perceived to be the premature and ham-handed firing of Coach Fulmer, the flight of Kiffin and the futility of having to suffer with an utterly feckless Dooley. In the midst of what appeared to be an era of good feeling that Vol fans hadn't experienced in over a decade, why you would want to depart from sacred symbols, in a move certain to antagonize a percentage of this now unified fan base, is a mystery.

This certainly raises lingering doubts about Dave Hart's competence, knowing he had to approve such a change.

Well I'm a fan, and I love the gray uniforms. But what I think doesn't matter because I'm only a fan. What the players think is what matters, because they put in the blood, sweat, tears and ligaments into the program.

The players reaction in that meeting room told me all I need to know. They loved them! The recruits loved them! As long as they only wear them once a year, I think it's great.

The only thing that would make them look better would be a grey helmet that actually matches the uniform. GBG...I mean GBO.

TrueVOL64 writes:

As a life long fan I love the change just which the helmet matched better!! This uniforms will make a nice addition to our normal uniforms just to change it up and hype the players up more!! I remember the first time my highschool team switched to all orange uniforms it was super exciting to put it on and whip some a**! Go VOLS!!!

1bigvolman writes:

You can use any argument you want...these are just UGLY! Even if our color is grey, which I didn't know because we haven't worn it in 100 years!!! They're just UGLY!!!
