A native of Nigeria, West Africa, Lola Alapo grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. She came to the Knoxville News Sentinel in January 2003 as a general assignment reporter. She covered police, courts, and diversity-related stories until September 2006 when she was assigned the education beat.-
