Written on Fulmer slams 'arrogant' Kiffin:

in response to wheel9468:

Yes really. In two seasons the QB would be a junior. I remember Crompton being the #2 QB coming out of HS. How did he play for Fulmer? You can't just recruit one. His failure to recruit another QB after Crompton is one of the biggest reasons TN is mediocre now. This is a QB league. Manning, Tee etc were in the past. Fulmer's present day recruiting got him fired, not the past.

Yes,Fulmer did sign some very good quarterbacks. Also,he signed a lot of other very good high school players. But,I`ve said it before, and I still say it.Fulmer didn`t know how to develope the talent he signed!Often under Fulmer,Tennessee finished in the top ten and a few times even in the top five in recruiting. But,they still struggled with teams that had much less talent than they had.I`ve been a Vols` fan since I was in elementary school. Before Fulmer,I`ve seen the Vols beat very good teams like a drum, even when the Vols had no-name QB`s.For instance,Tennessee destroyed Miami in the 1986 Sugar bowl 35-7.Miami had Vinny Testaverde. The Vols had Darrell Dickey, who was a back-up QB to Tony Robinson. The Vols had a whole team of "no-names'.Miami was supposed to crush Tennessee.Johnny Majors never had recruiting classes like Fulmer had. But,he knew how to use the talent he had.If Fulmer had of knew how to get the most out of the players he signed,Tennessee would have had a chance to win more championships.I`m definately NOT a Steve Spurrier fan,but he could have took the classes Fulmer signed, and had much more competative football teams with them.Like it or not. Most of Fulmer`s wins came against teams not even in the top twenty. And,like I said it was often a struggle to even beat THEM.Maybe Fulmer did win one National Championship. But,after that, his biggest bowl win was probably against Michigan. For years before he was fired,Tennessee was only mediocre. That`s where we are today.Mediocre.Fulmer got us here.Remember his last recruiting class? They were 37th in the nation. So,I say let`s tough it out and give Dooley a fair chance.I`m just sick of seeing posters talking about how great Fulmer was.

in response to DC_BackByPopularDemand:

(This comment was removed by the site staff.)

Yeah, the Vols could have gone to a bowl game every year under Fulmer if they had of played ten teams that weren`t ranked in the top twenty-five every year. But,too often Fulmer-coached teams struggled even against them. And,if I remember correctly, the Vols finished at # 37 in recruiting in Fulmers last year as coach. But don`t you die-hard Fulmer fans take my word for it.Check for yourselves.

(This comment was removed by the site staff.)

How can you say that Fulmer`s teams were "competitive teams always among the SEC elite? Yes,Fulmer could recruit. He signed plenty of talent. But,he didn`t know HOW to use the talent he signed. The Vols struggled with teams that they should have blown-out easily. Most of Fulmer`s wins were against teams that were not ranked. And,towards the end of his days at UT,he even lost his recruiting ability.Remember where the Vols` last recruiting class under Fulmer was ranked? Thirty-seventh!Let`s not write Dooley and this staff off so quickly.I was impressed with the way the Vols played the first half against Oregon.A lot of this team is freshmen and sophomores.Oregon was ranked #7 in the nation.I really thought Tennessee had a shot at winning the game until they commited too many mistakes.Give this staff and this team a couple more recruiting classes, and a couple more years to grow up.They`re gonna be back.

Written on Reality reigns: Oregon scores 45 consecutive points:

I was impressed with Justin Wilcox. He did an outstanding job of slowing Oregon down.At least 21 of Oregon`s total points were the result of poor play by the Vols. The long TD run was the result of poor tackling. The long punt return was the result of poor punt coverage. The interception return was the result of Simms making the wrong decision, and a very bad throw. After that,Simms looked like a deer in the headlights. The Vols will get much better. It`s gonna take a year or two.Right now,we don`t have a QB who can handle the job.I think Bray will improve. We shouldn`t blame the coaches. We just need more talent, and more experience. For a young team, the Vols did pretty well before the mistakes hurt them.

Written on Attorney representing Bryce Brown advises family not to sue UT, Dooley:

Dooley should go ahead and give Brown a release.Even though Brown didn`t have the gonads or respect to talk to Dooley face to face. This kid`s dad has caused a lot of trouble for Bryce and for UT.As for even considering taking UT to court,Brown`s dad is a complete moron.Give Brown and his dad what they want and move on.UT has running backs with more talent, anyway.

Written on Adams: UT should have bought out Oregon :

HEY,ADAMS; WHY DON`T UT JUST BUY OUT EVERYONE ON THE SCHEDULE?THAT WAY WE WON`T LOSE TO ANYONE.WHY DON`T YOU MOVE TO THE LEFT COAST,AND GET A JOB WRITTING FOR LAME KITTEN AND USC?!TAKE YOUR DOOM AND GLOOM OUT THERE WITH YOU.WE VOL FANS REALIZE THAT IT`S GONNA TAKE A COUPLE OF YEARS TO GET UT BACK UP AND RUNNING.SO,WE DON`T NEED YOUR SARCASTIC COMMENTS.WE GET PLENTY OF THOSE FROM TROLL GAY-TURD FANS.

Written on Bryce Brown's father considering suing Dooley, UT:

I wish Lame Kitten hadn`t gone to all the trouble to recruit Bryce Brown. He wasn`t worth all the trouble.Besides,he never measured up to all he was supposed to have been coming out of high school. If he didn`t make the grade at UT,he sure won`t attract much attention at Kansas State. His dad is even more controling than the grandma of the kid UT recruited that ended up going to Georgia. What was his name,Marlon Brown?Wonder if there are any family ties there?

Written on Focus on freshmen: First-year receivers will get action thanks to injuries :

This might be a dumb question, but can anyone tell me what happened to James Stone, the big offensive line recruit that signed with the Vols?Didn`t see him in the game Saturday.I figured with the lack of depth at O.line he would probably at-least get in the game.

Written on Defense gets its 'goose-egg' wish :

I live in North Carolina, and the game wasn`t carried in my area.Congratulations,Vols.Best of luck against Oregon next week. This Vols` defense is going to be good.Justin Wilcox will be more effective than Monte Kiffin.Just give this coaching staff time, and the Vols will be back at the top. This is a young Vols` team.It just takes time. So,when things don`t go our way in some games this season, please show some class and keep the boo birds quiet. The Vols are going to be just fine.Let`s be patient and supportive.GO,VOLS!!!

Written on Former UT QB Tony Robinson's son to play on father's turf :

I remember watching Tony Robinson dismantle Auburn and Bo Jackson in 1985.Tennessee won,38-20,and the Vol defense frustrated Bo Jackson so bad that he took himself out of the game.I think it was early in the fourth quarter.Tony Robinson passed for three or four touchdowns, and ran all over the Auburn defense.I still say there is a very good possibility that he was the best quarterback to ever play for the Vols.Best of luck,Cody.Hope you and your dad can get together soon.

Written on Mike Bianchi: From the typewriter: Tennessee should have retained Phil Fulmer :

in response to Pullingguard:

And is that not what every other coach is doing, trying to rebuild.... I agree with the article, had Fulmer stayed the program would have been stronger today than it is.... Granted Fulmer had couple of down years, but his overall record and what he did for UT was certainly deserving of another year and not let out as he was before the season ended... Hamilton will get chance to experience how that feels one of these days, especially if Dooley fails to meet expectations.
And, I wish D. Dooley the very best and much success...

If Fulmer were still at UT,we would be no better off than we are right now.And his overall win record came against teams that were not even in the top twenty. And too many times, the Vols even struggled against THEM!Remember Wyoming?Fulmer even seemed to have lost his touch at recruiting. His last recruiting class at UT was pitiful. And,even years ago when Fulmer had top-ten recruiting classes,he couldn`t get the most from the talent he recruited. We`ve all seen teams from small schools with less talent play better football than the Vols did under Fulmer and Chavis. And,the Vols haven`t had a really good defensive coach since Ken Donahue back in 1985 and 1986.In 1985,the Vols had players like Dale Jones and Darren Miller. No really well-known names on offense or defense, except for QB Tony Rbinson. That year, the Vols beat Alabama, and crushed Auburn and Bo Jackson.I remember the Vols` defense shutting Jckson down so bad that he took himself out of the game early, because he was so frustrated. Then the Vols and coach Donahue crushed Miami in the 1986 Sugar Bowl 35-7.Johnny Majors was the head coach for Tennessee. My whole point is,Majors and Donahue knew how to make players play for them. They could bring out the most from the talent they had. Also,QB Tony Robinson was injured against Alabama that year. And a so-so back up QB named Darrell Dickey finished the season for Tennessee, and was the Sugar Bowl MVP.He beat big Vinny Testaverde,QB for Miami.

Written on Mike Bianchi: From the typewriter: Tennessee should have retained Phil Fulmer :

Mike Bianchi is a moron.Yes,Tennesse football HAD plunged to a point to where the Vols had to gamble on an unproven head coach!I always liked Fulmer as a person, but he had become fat and lazy for about the last four years he was at UT.I hate to say it,but the Vols stunk.I`m also glad Chavis is gone.He had a lot of trouble stopping opponents on third down plays.Lots of times, the opponent needed seven,or maybe ten yards for a first down, and they got it.It became almost automatic. The players were not in top physical condition. They always tired-out in the third or fourth quarter.Fulmer was over-payed.If Bianchi can`t see this,he needs to be in another profession.Give Dooley and this staff a few years.I believe a lot of people will be surprised.GO,VOLS!!!

Written on SEC perspective on Vols: Dooley offers update regarding status of Brown, Lamaison :

So,if Brown DOES come back, you`ve got to wonder if he`ll stay or will he bolt again? This thing has reached the point of being ridiculous.I hope this whole thing wasn`t because of what`s-his-name leaving the Vols for USC.The Vols have a better coaching staff now.And a head coach with class, instead of just a big mouth.
