Written on Mike Strange: It's time to see how much rebuilding Butch Jones has done:

I don't think the word "Rebuild" is adequate in describing UT. There are several areas this squad is overly stacked in talent, like WR, OL, Safety and DE?LB. If anything this job needs "Redistribution" of talent to get peak performance and team chemistry. That's where CBJ's will earn his pay by leveling out the talent or teaching those weak areas to play at a higher more proficient level. We'll see what kind of redistribution was done in the coming Saturday's.

Written on John Adams: Butch Jones hasn't had enough time to change UT's losing ways:

in response to BolivrBob:

Dooley lost this team at halftime in the Florida game and continued to make it worse. This team has more talent than is given credit for. Jancek has fielded very good defenses the past two years with a lot less talent than he has now. We may be inexperienced on offense, but there is very good talent there. I predict one of the freshmen will emerge at QB by the Oregon game. He may not end up Johnny Football, but very effective in Bajakian's offense. I think we will way over achieve and finish 11-1 with a close loss to Bama and then beat them in the Georgia Dome. My PREDICTION.

I like your prediction better than mine..lol

Sorry 'hound, guess I wasn't clear. You and I are saying the same thing! Their prediction is no better than ours. Particularly Rucker's! I cancelled a fee trial subscription to 247 because of him!

Me too, Gerry..Rucker was such an unyielding sort that he basically singled me out because of difference in opinion. I've got no need to be paying for his egotistical rants, even under the time frame it is free of charge. BTW, Adams is right, Jones hasn't coached one game yet, but he's wrong about UT's overall talent. They are much more talented than coaching has shown thus far. To me, this board isn't so much about sports knowledge--everybody has some, nobody has all--as it is about one's feelings about our favorite university's sports teams. Anybody can look up facts and figures; all the rest is opinion. You don't have to pass an IQ test to buy a ticket or donate to the school. This board in particular amounts to a daily Rohrshach test of people's level of maturity and civility. WAY too many people on here flunk that test.

People who are passionate about anything can always find people to disagree with if that is the way they are turned. Some of us prefer to look for things that can unite us, accepting that people are going to have different opinions. The more thoroughgoing and exacting a person's preferences are, the fewer people he/she is going to find who agree with them down the line. Some people are happy to put themselves on an unapproachable pedestal so they can look down on others. It's a lonely perch, but some people just NEED to stay off by themselves since their only purpose in life is to antagonize others.

Exactly..+1

Incredible coincidence no doubt, but hands are clean. Pearls hands are covered in BBQ sauce. Facts do get in the way for you UT fans and your rants...

Written on John Adams: Schools should be waiting in line to hire Bruce Pearl:

in response to UkJarhead:

If you are able Bipolar, answer honestly these two questions:

Would you hire Pearl back?
Would you hire Cal to coach your Vols?

If I were AD Pearl would never have been terminated. Hamilton's pseudo backing of Pearl and allowance of mike Slime to suspend him without the NCAA hearing was a bush league move. Then he turns around and admits he's going to terminate BP before the 1st round of the NCAA tourney; After UT had already suffered through SEC suspensions they should have allowed him to carry on as HC. The NCAA boosted by ESPN coverage pounced on Bruce Pearl to get the heat off of their beloved UCONNvict program and ringleader Jim Calhoun. As far as John Calapari is concerned, I despise that charlatan ever since his days at UMASS. He's not a great coach, and he's about as trustworthy as an ambulance chasing personal injury attorney.

Yes, i'll admit that i cut up and post zany remarks (for comic relief). However, you or no one can deny my love for the University of Tennessee. I wasn't recruited by Johnny Majors (surprised aren't you) instead i ended up at Memphis State. I didn't allow a coaching decision to become a personal issue. It's time to separate our personal ties from reality and quit deflecting anger toward others. I actually agree with many of the post you submit, but you never recognize any of those qualities and rather argue when i don't agree with you. That sounds like a person really wanting to argue than talk sports. BTW, I'm a huge Dallas Cowboy fan since 1966, ironically the same year I became a UT backer. Year zero and 45 has become a real zero. He only berates others because he's only comfortable being an internet bully. Apparently his sports knowledge IQ is very low, therefore he touts his EE degree as reasons to listen to him. No offence to EE degrees/UT, but there are higher ranked engineering programs than UT. Perhaps he'll get the hint that bashing Dooley (who has 10 * more class than he) only makes him look like a jealous malcontent. We've all moved on since Hamilton botched the replacing of Fulmer. My father was a Bill Battle man and finally let that go after he realized he was not recruiting at SEC level. Makes a lot of sense to me and Iam pretty sure Hart does not have the b#lls to thumb his nose at the NCAA and revisit the past..Short of a TOTAL melt down of a 20 loss season; Martin isn't going anywhere. I have watched every BBgame for the last 8 years and frankly most of the games we lost the past 2 years were simply because our guards came out and shot 15 for 45 while guys like Pope or Henderson were on fire lighting us up. That's not to say we never lost because of bad defense or bad effort but we lost to Mercer because the guards shot a dismal 13 of 44 while they were shooting 50%

You can't ignore the fact that UT lost to mid-major schools when they had their best teams as well. Mercer was a very good squad last year as was MTSU the year before. Winthrop/Butler and other schools have played as good of a brand of bb as any BCS conference programs. That has more to do with the one&done athletes leaving; Solid 3* athletes at mid-major schools for 4 years of development, while schools like Kansas/UK are fortunate to have athletes for two seasons. UT needs to recruit athletes that fit their system the best, not star gazing for athletes that are potentially one&done and disrupt the team chemistry after they leave. I feel CCM is doing that very thing by recruiting athletes that fit his program opposed to appeasing the fans. Having said that, this is a make or break season for CCM. He must make the big dance, the talent is in place and it's time for results..GBO!

Yes. You may.

As for his transgressions, they were insignificant and trivial compared with the punishment given. If we'd had strong leadership in the offices of the president and the AD, we could have pushed the NCAA wimps back into their sanctimonious ivory tower and told them to shove it.

I'm a Pearl fan, and was disgusted at how the NCAA/ESPN vilified him (especially since Jim Calhoun was basically paying his athletes). But, you've got to question someones intelligence when NCAA investigators ask you point blank questions and you still lie. Why would any reasonable minded adult believe 17&18 year old HS students wouldn't let the cat out of the bag?

I'm clueless?? In what regard, flat top? If you're going to base that on fb knowledge, college or NFL, NBA, sports in general then challenge me to a test. You're basing my overall sports knowledge off of one prediction last year/season. Do you have the testicular fortitude to accept a challenge of overall sports trivia? Need our WRs and the freshman CB to grow up quickly! Wonder if there is a steroid shot (a legal one) that can accelerate their growth? You got one cupcake to grow up on, boys. If W KY beats KY Wildcats their first game, which is possible, our tough schedule will start 7 September. Go Vols!

I agree with most of which you said, but, when I hear people put a threat of WKU may be a test it makes me laugh. You're only going off the fact that Petrino had decent stops at Louisville and Arky. Remember, they lost their all-conference qb and BP is implementing a completely different system to an inexperienced qb. UT or UK should be able to line up and cram the fb down their throats. UK had the worst team in the SEC last year and WKU had to edge them out with their best team during the FBS era. This game won't be close by the 3rd qtr. UT and UK will roll over these red rag toting hill-toppers.

But dang, it's tough to keep track of them all without a scorecard. Four or five different names, all with the same M.O., all with the same tone and style... and talking to each other in a vacuum chamber.

St. Phil is going to become known as the patron saint of bewildered and bitter losers, if Toddy and Jeffy have their way. It's a shame, really, that a coach who accomplished a lot for UT winds up circling the bowl because these two leeches have attached themselves to his memory.

Great observation on your comments. I know Phil had lost his edge, but Hamilton could have told Phil he had one more year and he could help Tennessee find the next coach. That would have allowed us a top 2 or 3 rated class in the nation.

Again, Tennessee would have had an entire year to get THE RIGHT replacement for the program that was STILL respected back then. SEC teams we played in Phil's final year could have honored him for his coaching tenure. It is always RIGHT to treat people right when change is evident and this was handled as bad as you could. Hamiltion acted spured on by articles written by this man that has always been negative on Phil his entire coaching career!

Let's get over this and move on as a BIG ORANGE NATION and remember our best run WAS under Philip Fulmer!! GO BIG ORANGE - SUPPORT BUTCH AND THE 2013 VOLS!!

The classy and correct thing for Mike Hammy to do was to give Fulmer ONE additional year to right the football program.
