Ya I can't imagine wku coming into neyland stadium and taking the vols out. I will say that this year will be the year that Tennessee could lose some games people expect them to win, but on the other hand, we have a good quality coach that could get us some wins people aren't expecting us to win..

I think under Dooley you are dead on, but under Jones, it appears if anything UT may steal a win or two. Granted, a win over WKU won't be a cakewalk either. UT's defense (i hope has improved) will be tested often in that game.

Written on Dave Hart already a big Butch Jones fan :

For the record: I don't hate anyone (especially not Phillip Fulmer). I have met him on several of his visits to Jackson TN, and he is a very well respected man in my view. Do I think he was ready to move on?? Absolutely..As were other tenured coaches' of that era. The days of a coach staying at a university like Bear Bryant did at Bama are a thing of the past. The ten year plan or possibly 15 year plan are about the longest you want one person involved as a HC these days. They get too complacent and comfortable to change. Nick Saban will not die a Bama HC, he has a life outside of Bama fb, and he has started grooming Kirby Smart for that position when he and his wife decide it's time to retire.

Western Kentucky will beat Tennessee. The Hilltoppers will have better athletes....better coaches and they will expect to win. In two years, teams will be scheduling UT (cupcake team and an easy win) for the season opener.

Not a chance WKU wins at Knoxville. They had to go to OT last year at UK and that was their best team in a decade. Also they are completely revamping their offense to fit CBP's system and that will not be an overnight transition. Also, WKU does not have better athletes than UT, you're smoking crack if you honestly believe that.

The bats need to pick it up, pitching can't shut out opponents every game (unless Monica Abbott) were still UT's ace.

Written on Dave Hart already a big Butch Jones fan :

After Dave Hart has totally restructured the athletic department, then perhaps Phil Fulmer could replace him. It won't be that difficult for anyone after Hart had the stones to do away with the old system that was milking the athletic budget like a dairy cow. Keep in mind, Fulmer will be rather old when Hart steps down, and I feel it would do a disservice to the university to place an elderly person in that position. Especially one without a financial background or sports marketing degree that will not just benefit the football program, but all of the programs under the UT umbrella.

Written on Another 'back breaker' seals fate for Vols, 8-4:

I'm not sure Tony LaRussa could win with this team. They don't have quality arms outside of Godley and not one utility 5 tool player to lean on. A below 500 ball club with a relatively light non-conference schedule is not acceptable progress year two. I hope Serrano can right the ship, but right now this squad took a step backward this year.

Written on Exclusive: UT, Memphis to renew basketball rivalry; football still in talks:

in response to Colliervol:

First strike against Dave Hart in my book if he continues playing Memphis in anything. My position on this has never changed. We gain nothing by playing them. An absolute NO to a football game. And if we want a basketball game for exposure in this area, play a non-conference foe at the Desoto Civic Center. Seats about 8,000 for basketball and that would satisfy our local alumni base.

I've lived with these sad sack fans down here for 35 years. They despise Tennessee and only like it when we add money to their budget. They contribute nothing to us and I see no reason to pad their coffers. Get rid of them.

That pretty much sums it up for me. I played fb at Memphis for Richard Williamson/Rex Dockery and have always been at odds with the Memphis perception of UT. Growing up a UT backer in Jackson TN, I was not aware of the venom they have for all things UT. I can't even bring myself to pull for Memphis when they aren't opposite of the Vols. The same goes for Ole Miss, and I have some really good booster friends/family that are alumnus from there.

How long do UT fans have to wait for the Vols to be relevant in football, basketball, or baseball again!

Well, basketball wise they defeated UF 3 straight times and blew UK off the court. So, I would say anytime you beat a defending national title school, that's being relevant. Baseball has been down since Raleigh took over and it's going to take some time. Football, on the other hand must be successful soon, because they are the big draw at UT and steps are at least in place to improve that sport. I'm not sure Serrano (which seemed capable) is the answer.

They are not, but remember 247/sports is based in Florida and each team has their own site connected with the main blog. If anything the stories are too biased (Athlon-type) that mostly sugar coat every topic. I do enjoy the VIP section which updates you on every major sport from recruiting to injury rehab. To me the VIP section is the best part of the membership. As far as recruiting, I'll stick with Rivals for faster updates and where the athlete is leaning.

4. Men's baseball team can't even qualify for the SEC tournament when it is expanded to 12 teams>>

We will see about the lawsuits. At least one women had two women's coaches recommend her dismissal. We will have to see how this plays out. As for our problems in 3 men's sports, he inherited Dooley and Martin. Dooley got a quick hook from Hart, considering the huge buyout he got from Hamilton. Firing Fulmer, replacing him with Kiffin, and hiring Dooley are on Hamilton, not Hart. We will see how Martin does (I'm optimistic), but that is also on Hamilton. Hamilton also fired a successful baseball coach and replaced him with the guy that ruined our program. I can't remember if Hart hired the current guy or not. What will determine where Hart is successful or not mainly will be if Football turns around with his hire. That would take care of our finances if football is successful again. After that, we will need to see if basketball and baseball improve. It is way to early to say if Hart is successful or not.

Acting AD Joan Cronan hired Serrano. The only hires on Dave Harts watch were Butch Jones and Holly Warlick and possibly a swimming coach.

And Dave Hart ain't one of them either. He has done a great job considering the mess that he was handed by Hammy. Takes time to right a ship that was steered wrong for so many years. It's all coming together. Go Vols....

You nailed that..Dave Hart has trimmed the fat off of the athletic dept, stopped the misappropriation of funds throughout the university and hired a really competent fb coach. All the while completing the finest athletic training facility in the nation. I really feel Charlie Strong (a solid fb coach) was a bad fit at UT, and really wants the UF or USCe job in the future..JMO, but Dave Hart deserved a bonus and national recognition for restructuring the athletic dept, not jeers for not going along with the good ol' boy mentality that has plagued UT since Woodruff was in place.

Written on Exclusive: UT, Memphis to renew basketball rivalry; football still in talks:

Absolutely stupid! There is ZERO benefit to UT to play Memphis in ANYTHING! TN hasn't been able to get the best hoops players out of Memphis - EVER! - and CCM sure isn't going to be the first to do so. Football? Yeah right. Like a top player in Memphis is going to choose the Tigers over the SEC?? I'm sure Butch is much more worried about Memphis kids going to Bama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, etc than he is Memphis. Playing there means nothing either except a handful of fans don't have to drive 6 hours. Great...better off buying them all a bus ticket! For TN to treat Memphis as any level of rival is ridiculous - why reduce yourself to that Memphis level! Ignore them, they'll go away!

For once I agree with you..UT will never own that market bb wise, and they still get quality fb players out of Shelby County. Butch Jones has guaranteed more involvement in that area as far as recruiting Memphis. So, why play them in anything, they play in a dump (LBS) and never sell it out unless UT fans buy all the empty home seats. If UT plays horribly they end up with egg on their face (does 1996 ring a bell?). I say kick their arses to the curb, and save non-conference openings for USC, UCLA, Michigan or Ohio State..

Bipolar, didn't Coach Dooley bench him for awhile at one time, and didn't all hell broke lose with the fans? I think that was when Worley got to see a little action. But, admittedly, Coach Dooley did not have the 'nads to just ship him out ... and Tyler took full advantage of the situation.

I think that Dooley's '12 was similar to Fulmer's '08. Both were lost causes.

Yeah, I believe he did pull Bray for a series, however, when did it become acceptable to back sass your HC? I know darn well if I would have run my pie-hole after making a mistake, my days as a starter would have ended as soon as that comment left my mouth. Charlie Bagget was treated much the same way by UT WR's after the tucky loss in 2011. I get the feeling CBJ's and staff are getting control of the situation from the start, and scenarios like the Da'Rick & Tyler tirades will end with an immediate transfer or worse.

Written on Tyler Bray has moved beyond 'stupid mistakes' at Tennessee:

How convenient That Tyler is buckling down now that he's forced to. Too bad Dooley didn't force him to earlier.

Rich, it was rumored that Bray left the field after one of his bad reads on 3rd & short and replied to Dooley after getting his ear bent.."If you don't like the way I play qb, by all means find someone else"..After that exchange (if indeed true) Tyler should have never seen the field again. Just another example of how Dooley had lost the respect of his players, and his refusal to bench his arrogant qb.

Chaney did okay coaching Bray, but you have to admit he had no clue about the game of fb. A real QB only needs to be coached on mechanics and timing. The game, he should already know how to play, and should not require guidance when it's obvious he could run for a first down and move the chains. Bray didn't get it..Did he ever try a naked bootleg run on short yardage? He didn't know to extend the ball passed the the line of scrimmage on 4th and short plays..He threw the ball in double coverage when a sack would have hurt the team less. His ego was as big of reason for stalled drives as Chaney's horrendous play calling.

OK Tyler, this may be your last chance. Study hard, work hard, and go forth and do well.

Wasn't it Jim Chaney that made Jon Crompton's senior year memorable? I wonder why Chaney could not perform the same "magic" with Bray?

Some people are gifted with a high sports IQ to go with their athletic ability..MJ in basketball, Albert Pujols in baseball and Roger Staubach in football all transcended their sport because they made great decisions at clutch times. Tyler on the other hand always seemed to make the worst decisions when the game was on the line. Case in point Music City Bowl key interception in OT. Against Vandy 2011 interception on the goal line allowed Vandy back into a game that should not have gone into OT. Against UGA and USCe game winning drives thwarted because Tyler ignored the two best defenders in the SEC. Tyler, has a low sports IQ, has he ever dove for a first down to keep a drive going? These are the reasons/examples of why he wasn't drafted.
