So, which new-name-same-troll are you? I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I make the cut for true Vol fan. When will you give us the results? I can hardly wait.
Why the Broncos, Peyton? Why? A true Vol for sure. It's just painful to see him in a Broncos uniform. Anyone but the Broncos.
Good decision. I hope he has a great senior year and goes high in the 1st round of 2014.
If you plan to make basketball a career, and can have a professional evaluation without declaring for the draft, why wouldn't you? I'll save my opinion of their decision for after they make it, rather than making assumptions.
It's funny to me to read other's posting about their lust for Michigan and Louisville. They are playing in the championship game, of course they look better than us. They are the two best teams in the country. Don't worry though, we're aren't as far away from being a good team as you seem to think. Let's get back to being a good team first, then worry about "looking like" a national championship team. One step at a time.
in response to rtrchatt: Doubt Ozzie Newsome will take a huge paycut and leave Baltimore, but replacing one Bama legend with another Bama legend is a popular choice among the Tide Nation. Coach Moore is the quinessential southern gentlemen and will be greatly missed. He certainly is one of the reasons CNS has made the committment to Alabama. The next AD hire is critical for CNS retiring at Alabama, and rocky flop has no worries re DH. He is not in the running IMHO. Roll Tide

If we were doing it on a Kentucky site, yes we would look foolish. The name of this site is Go Vols Xtra with emphasis on the "GO VOLS!" What that means is, when Kentucky loses to a team like Robert Morris, we (Vol fans) come on here and have a few laughs together. That event is totally unrelated to the disappointing performance by OUR basketball team tonight.
in response to UkJarhead: You people are hilarious. There are no excuses this year. We suck. The players were overrated and we played poorly. It was embarassing for our standards. It was ok for yours, but not ours. The great news is, we get a new chance to win a championship every year. To say the system don't work is laughable. If the system has to result in championships every year, then no, it don't work. But 7 straight 30 win seasons, 5 straight top recruiting classes, and expectations to win it all I think is the sign of a good program. We had a bad year, fine. Enjoy it. But we did just win a title, 1 of 8, and we hve more wins than anyone. And didn't you just lose at home to Mercer.... And those that complain about one and done are fans at school that can't get them. We have 6 McDonald's All Americans coming next year. I guess if they wanted to come to UT, you would say no??

in response to orangecountyvols: Vols, Did anyone watch this one? I understand U K fans were sending twitters and e-mails to the Robert Morris people warning them of the impending massacre which was going to befall the Colonials. OK fans, this is one we can talk about a little bit on OUR site. Don't go to the the Kitty site to rub it in...........losing to Robert 'freakin' Morris in a 3,000 seat gym. Therefore, Seven teeth is drowning in his sorrow tonight. He'll say, "well, we didn't get to use our one and dones in Co-Rupp arena." That was an exciting game. The stuffy kittens and Calipara got a huge dose of humble pie to choke on. #1 seed in the NIT is given a break.....they don't have to worry about another possible beat down by the Vols. I don't think R M even missed a free throw. Calipari, given a warning for leaving the coaching box earlier, could have well received a T for doing it later.......but we can forgive him.......he was quite frustrated. All the talk about another one of those 'greatest recruiting classes again coming in' is actually an invitation for people like Tennessee and Robert Morris to laugh at all that. After all, the games are played on the floor, not in the media !

This to me is the line that trolls cross. You will never find me on a UK, UF, or U-anything-but-T website talking trash and stirring things up from behind a keyboard. I will; however, come on a UT website and talk all the trash I want, especially after UK loses to Robert Morris. I'd feel pretty stupid right now (much the same way 7something, professionalwhatever, 8isenough, and so on must feel) if I had been on their site talking trash, and then UT flops in the first round as well. I can respect fans of other teams like UKJarhead who come here and talk respectfully about the game.
Disappointing end to an okay season with some memorable wins. I hope next season is better or Coach Martin's seat might start heating up.

I agree. When UT didn't make it, Bama should have. Three teams from the SEC is ridiculous--payback for dominating football.

Sorry, that's just stupid. So, if UT's record was 28 - 4, with those 4 losses, they don't make the tournament?
in response to volhome: Then I'm part of the 5%, as I agree with WP. Keeping CBP would have been a few years slapped would have been the same postseason results (no NCAA tourney), and yet we could have been winning 25 to 30 games a year. It's the same wimp-headed thinking that cost us CPF (on 'probation', if you will), and here we are back at NIT again. The only way CCM can shut those 5% of us up is to win the NIT, and that for darned sure ain't happening. Welcome back to basketball mediocrity, fellow Vol fans. Sadly, all too familiar territority.

I liked Bruce Pearl and hated to see him go. But it's pretty easy to claim we would be winning 25 - 30 games a year with him as coach when there is absolutely no way to prove that. In fact, based on the evidence (the team's record his last year and previous records), this might be a bit of a stretch. We'll never know because he lied to the NCAA and got fired. So, speculate away. Had we kept Dooley, we probably would have won the NC next year. See how that works?

Taking over a job after the last coach was fired (with the AD not too far behind), players bolting for the professional leagues, looming NCAA sanctions scaring recruits away, and limited time to recruit; you call this walking into a "good situation?"
Taking that same team and finishing 2nd in the SEC when expected to finish at the bottom(and inexplicably being left out of the NCAA) and then just missing the tournament the next year by one basket against G'Town after losing his star All-SEC player; you call this completely screwing it up?
I call you an idiot.

Easy to hate on the guy, when you have no idea what you are talking about. He made 63 threes last year, and didnt play against Florida at home, he has made 50 this year, second only to Mcrae, and yet he still is the problem. Also, he got beat by players that torched everyone else, and most of the time, he was in position, they just made good shots. If you actually watched the games, you might know these FACTS. Once again no facts, but a baised opinion.

I think your first sentence is the most closed-minded thing I've read on this site. Congratulations. And by the way, according to your criteria, my opinion DOES count.
I know this is a sports site, but I couldn't resist. Back to basketball. What are the chances Vandy finishes off Ole Miss, and then loses to Florida, nudging Tennessee back in? Also, need Maryland to lose. Too bad it had to come down to this. Like someone said earlier, one more basket against Georgetown and we're not even having this conversation. One more win against anyone and I think they would have been in without any question. I'm expecting better things next year, and hoping for better this year!
I've seen varying opinions on whether Bama winning or losing hurts or helps us. My initial thought was we would want them to lose to UF, and have UF or UM win the tournament since they are already in the NCAA tournament. Would our RPI benefiting from Bama winning the tournament offset the fact that Bama would take up one of the valuable SEC tournament spots?

How about being specific? Which players were giving no effort, and more importantly, who do you think you would replace them with? Lopez for Golden? Yemi for Stokes? You would probably just be criticizing for Martin for not playing Stokes and Golden more.

Amen to that. UGA really had our number this year. I hope we beat Bama and then get Florida and Kentucky on our way to the championship.
This team SHOULD be in with this win, but I don't think they are. Better bring it for two halves against Bama and leave no doubt. What a dunk from McRae! Nice game from Chievous. Proof that maybe Coach Martin knows a little more about basketball than random posters on an online forum.

Your insinuation is right up there with the way "Yankees" have traditionally underestimated the intelligence of Southerners because they think they talk funny or with the impression some Americans have of the superior intellect and sophistication of Brits because of the way THEY sound. For one thing, FUNCTIONAL intelligence, i.e., the ability to get things done in the "real" world, consists of far more than "readin', writin', and cipherin'" as those things are measured on paper. To avoid the risk of turning this into another tome on a non-issue, I would say only that to question by innuendo the intelligence of a person you clearly know nothing about raises serious questions about YOUR intelligence, not to mention your taste and judgment. Continuing to double down on this line of discussion would call those things into serious question indeed.

Actually, the 2012 - 2013 Away record is 4-7.
Without their star player, this team has improved from last year according to these numbers.
The season is not over yet. Worst case scenario is 19-13 if they lose in the SEC and first round of NIT or possibly NCAA. Middle of the road scenario. They win two in the SEC tournament and one in the NCAA, 22-13, which would be better than Bruce Pearl's final year. Even better scenario, win the SEC tournament and go to the Sweet 16, 25-12.
At least wait until the season is over to pass judgement.
Congratulations to McRae and Stokes!
My thoughts and observations:
Stokes should definitely be on 1st team.
Golden should probably be on 2nd team but his inconsistency (maybe due to injuries?)could also keep him off the list.
Awful lot of awards (many in the freshman categories) for a certain team on the bubble. They were either overrated at the beginning of the year, or really underachieved, or a bit of both.
Our coach beat the coach of the year--three times in a row. It will be Coach Martin's turn for SEC coach of the year next year, and you can write that down in ink.

Good point. The SEC has won 3 of the last 7 NCAA championships (with two different teams), yet somehow we're not a strong basketball conference. I don't get it.

I hated to see Bruce Pearl go as much as anyone. Let's look at the whole picture though. Was Bruce's last team any better than this one? Yes, the beginning of this season was a bit disappointing, but a struggle was expected (by anyone living in reality) with the loss of Maymon.

Tigers will roll today.
Hello NIT!
Wrong again. You should be worried about your own team. How'd they do today?
Light it up today, Skylar! Thanks for being a Vol.
Way to go Stokes!
Anyone know what happened to all the UK trolls? Hahahaha!
in response to willphill#241787: We have no coaching whatsoever. The opponent drives again and again to the basket for easy buckets yet we do not employ a zone defense. McBrick can't guard anyone, can't hit a shot yet he continues to play. Stokes is 1 for 10 at the free throw line yet he continues to play. We were lucky to win. Bring back Bruce.

Actually, Stokes sat on the bench for most of the second half. I've said it before. It doesn't matter what Coach Martin does, it will always be wrong to some people. We won the game. Stokes sat. What will it take to make you happy? And no, Bruce isn't coming back. Get over it.
in response to 8inarow: Yea..it was a tough year. Gators got to the Sugar, and lost in the Elite-8 in BB, while the Vols lost to Vandy and some powerhouse I cannot even remember in the NIT. Not to mention that the Gators won the SEC Sports Trophy for the umpteenth time and now this factoid: Through the end of the 2011–2012 school year, the Florida Gators have won 204 Southeastern Conference (SEC) team championships, the most in conference history. Enjoy

Wow, that's quite impressive. With so much going on for the Gators right now, why do you spend so much time here?
in response to BrassMonkey: First. I just wanted to check on everyone's predictions for last weekends Georgia game. I said they would flop and was personally attacked. They did. Quit being sunshine pumpers and look at reality sometime.

"I said they would flop and . . ."So by saying they would "flop," you are implying that they are expected to win this game but will lose, right? Which, as others have already pointed out, you almost always do. (How'd your UF and UK picks work out?)
"Quit being sunshine pumpers and look at reality sometime."By this, you mean we should have realistic expectations for this game, right? So picking the Vols to win a game that they are expected to win (according to your previous statement) is unrealistic?
Perhaps you should look at reality sometime.
in response to sameolvolalum: Let's back up the tape and McBee hits a few of those open treys. Golden rips in a few floaters and.....all of a sudden.....packing the paint is killing the uglies. When your outside shots don't fall, which they have been doing of late, one coach looks brilliant and the other looks stupid. I say stick what got you that six game streak.....just hit the shots.

I agree. If Golden and McBee hit a few shots each, then we are talking about a 7-game winning streak and how Cuonzo Martin is turning out to be a good coach after all. They missed those shots, and now the same coach--who just had a 6-game win streak with wins over Kentucky and Florida--is a terrible coach and doesn't know how to adjust the game plan. It's a lose-lose situation for Coach Martin with some people. If they win a game, then it was a fluke, against a bad team, players injured, biased refs, blah, blah, blah. If they lose a game, he's a terrible coach.
Let's hope they stick to what they know and hit their shots against Auburn and Missouri.
This is frustrating and disappointing. Georgia just has our number. It's not over yet, although at this point they probably need to win the SECT. If the right teams lose, maybe they could sneak in by winning the last two and appearing in the championship game.
