Written on Butch Jones says of event countering Nick Saban: 'I'll do anything in Tennessee':

in response to BillVol:

Right. It is Bradley Central High School -- not Bradley County. It is so often called Bradley County that I wonder if it was ever called that.

Meant to say that it is so often referred to as Bradley County High School that I wonder if it was ever officially called that.

This is a great thread, by the way.

Written on Butch Jones says of event countering Nick Saban: 'I'll do anything in Tennessee':

in response to HSFootball24:

Evan...the event will not be at Bradley County High School. There is no Bradley County High School.

Right. It is Bradley Central High School -- not Bradley County. It is so often called Bradley County that I wonder if it was ever called that.

Written on With $817,000 annual pay, UT's Dave Hart is near median of SEC athletic directors:

Out of control is right. But what hair color number does Dave use? Jus sayin.

Written on Underclassmen perform well for UT track team at SEC Indoors:

I think we need to go after Vince Anderson. The obvious choice!

Written on Fourth overtime Golden for Vols, 93-85:

Excellent account of the game, F.

Written on Mike Strange: Vols-Cats: It takes two for the rivalry tango :

Always remember that Mike Strange is a Kentucky native and a U. of Kentucky grad.

Written on All-American Kelsey Robinson among 4 players transferring from Tennessee volleyball program:

twice: Rob Patrick took the Lady Vols to the Final Four in volleyball. That would be like you and me building a spaceship and going to the moon. Impossible. But Rob did it. Rob has nothing to prove to anybody. He is a great coach and a great person.

Anyhow, great coaches like Rob are very good at deterimining good talent for their teams. Like I said, if you had been good enough, you would have played.

Written on All-American Kelsey Robinson among 4 players transferring from Tennessee volleyball program:

I got this information from a big volleyball fan:

Robinson didn't train very hard last offseason, played overweight and unmotivated all year, got benched a couple of times and her attitude spread. Baker was hurt most of the year and got frustrated. Team picked to win the league never got fully healthy from various injuries, never got a consistent lineup and under performed. That contributed to the poor morale. Time to rebuild.

Written on All-American Kelsey Robinson among 4 players transferring from Tennessee volleyball program:

Rob's been here a long time and I don't believe has ever had this problem before. I would chalk this up to bad apples. Good riddance. Go to Kelsey Robinson's twitter account. She sounds like a 13-year-old girl.

Written on Mike Strange: We all could use a little luck in 2013 :

What about J.J. Clark and the UT track teams? They need more good luck than anybody.

Written on Mike Strange: Why watching basketball is better than watching football :

Plus, basketball is a sport that is played every day on playgrounds and in gyms, in every country in the world, by men and women. Football, on the other hand, is a sport that is played in its actual form only 12 or 13 times a year.

Written on Stokely Athletics Center at the University of Tennessee, 1987. (KNS Archive):

It's Athletics -- not Athletic -- Center. Look at the picture of the building.

Written on Tennessee's Stokely Athletics Center closing down :

I loved going to games at Stokely but I will not miss that dump. We can find better use for that property than Stokely.

Written on David Martin catches a UT degree at 33:

33. You all act like he's 83.

Written on Lineup experimentation pays off for UT coach Cuonzo Martin against Massachusetts :

Guessing this win was more about shooting percentage than any strategy. I say this without having seen the box. So I could be wrong.

Written on A 'sense of freshness' to UT swim program :

Written on John Adams: Billy Donovan sees Vols as team to beat in SEC :

Going to go ahead and predict that UT will not win the SEC this year. Despite what Billy D. says.

Written on Holly Warlick next new coach Tennessee is showing off on caravan:

Looks like Holly has a new hairdo...

Written on David Climer: NCAA Trophy that Pat Summitt made her own now deserves her name:

Is Climer going to credit Woody Paige for the idea? This is pretty shameless IMO.

Written on Brian Pensky's deal richer than Maryland, former coach's contract:

Angie Kelly had done all she could do at UT. Plus, the top female soccer players tend to favor male coaches. That is a fact. (See Anson Dorrance.) Landing Pensky was perfect for us.

Written on Dave Hart outlines leaner, more efficient athletic department :

Gymnastics? When are we getting gymnastics?

Written on Brittany Sheffey wins 1,500, 3,200 relay in home finale :

Written on R.A. Dickey talks about troubled past in book :

R.A., you prove that you can't keep a good man down. You have overcome all of that -- and then some. I can't think of a Volunteer who is a better person than you are. May God continue to bless you.

Written on UT won't charge admission for Orange and White Game:

Wonder if admission would be free if we were coming off a national championship? No. Admission is free because interest in the program is lower than usual.

Written on Pat Summitt and Geno Auriemma share big hug:

This has to be an April Fools joke.

Written on Vols finish 22nd at NCAA meet:

Lars was a nice fill-in, but it's time to get a coach to bring us to our former glory. Tennessee Swimming and Diving is an important part of our state.

Written on Lars Jorgensen has Vols confident heading into SEC Championships :

Is Lars really a Volunteer? Would he leave us for a job at a California school?

Written on Jeremaine Copeland retires after 11 seasons in CFL :

A great Volunteer. Congrats on a fine career.

Written on Vols add Norway's top junior tennis player:

Never heard of a tennis player from Norge before.

Written on Sheffey is 8th, qualifies for NCAA:

Former, why don't you email me at billvol@yahoo.com so we can discuss this privately. Having to pay for a t-shirt has nothing to do with this. If George Watts could have coached us to some championships, I would have bought 1000 shirts from him.

Written on Former Vol All-American Alf Holmberg dies at 83 :

trg, what does TAB stand for?

Written on Sheffey is 8th, qualifies for NCAA:

FTV, you are in denial. George Watts killed UT distance running. Maybe he wasn't given the cards to beat the big boys, but we should be able to beat UTC and Belmont.

Formervol: At least J.J. can claim an SEC XC title for the women. And an indoor NC in track. So they are down this year. Big deal.

You guys are hilarious. I'm glad the administration brushed off you Watts cronies. Talk about pathetic.

Written on Sheffey is 8th, qualifies for NCAA:

Thanks to George Watts for leaving this men's team to J.J. In the region meet, we finished behind teams such as Kennesaw, Belmont, MTSU and Chattanooga. No automatic individual qualifiers. Even Chattanooga had one of those.

Written on Ex-Vol football letterman Bob Zvolerin dies at 71 :

Rest in peace, great Volunteer and American.

Written on Robinson, Lady Vols split matches:

One of the George Watts cronies told me on here that we never actually lost to Belmont in cross. I thought we had, but...with George's runners, we did in fact lose to Belmont today. And to Kentucky. Just as we've lost to Florida and Alabama and Auburn in recent years.

Doug Brown and Stan Huntsman NEVER lost to such teams.

Thank God George Watts is gone and we can now start to rebuild our once-great Tennessee distance running program.

Written on Bruce Pearl taking marketing job with H.T. Hackney :

This is a great job to 99.999% of the world's working people. Only ESPN's Andy Katz would label it as "working for a super market," which is factually wrong in the first place.

Written on Roger Coggins, starter on 1948 football team, dies :

Nice to learn of the name of this great Volunteer. Roger Coggins, thank you for wearing the Orange with such honor.

Written on Tennys Sandgren expected to turn pro:

Wild. Watch out for Tennys on the Podunk Futures.

Written on Former Tennessee coach Bill Webb to join cross country hall of fame :

News-Sentinel headline writers strike again with another misleading headline.

Written on UT tennis pioneer Currie dies at 86 :

General Neyland was the best AD we've ever had. He supported all sports. He was a fan of track and field. He backed Lindsey Nelson's idea of a Vol Network, when Nelson had no money to offer. His pupil Bowden Wyatt hired Ray Mears. And now we learn the General supported the sport of tennis.

Written on Rhyne Williams leaves UT to turn pro:

Might as well do it now. He will make $250 on the Bolivian circuit now or later.

Written on Should Tennessee have separate coaches for its men's and women's track teams?:

I asked this question on Track & Field News message board. Safe to say that the respondants said that one coach is the way to go and the way the vast majority of schools are doing it now.

I think the head coach in track these days is much like Bear Bryant was. Up in his tower supervising things. A charismatic person who can recruit but who delegates to outstanding assistants. This is the coaching staff model of today -- like it or not.

Written on LETTER TO THE EDITOR: UT track and field alumni displeased with firings:

Only 47 people signed this letter? (Half of whom I've never heard of.) Hardly a mandate!

Where's Tony Parrilla? John Angel? Chuck Rohe? Phil Bonfiglio? Terry Scott? Tim Pitcher? Willie Gault? Richmond Flowers? Tony Blair? Lawrence Johnson? Justin Gatlin? Sam Graddy? Reggie Jones? Herb Neff? Alf Holmberg? Tim Mack? Randy Jenkins? Chip Kell? Tom Pappas?

Et-frickin'-cetra!

This letter is what is wrong with Tennessee. Cronyism! Cronyism is why we've had five University of Tennessee presidents in the last ten years. Nobody wants to pick the best man or woman for the job. They only want to pick the person who will help their own interests.

This letter is a joke. One coach for combined programs works at many places, such as Texas A & M and Florida. I'd guess most schools have one coach for track and field. I'm not saying J.J. is the guy to lead a combined program. But if he isn't, there is someone who can do it.
