You might be right... Could Murray go before the 3rd round? He certainly had a better career against the Vols than Eric did.

It may have been necessary to fire Dooley for the psyche of the fan base. But, seriously, does anyone outside (or inside for that matter) of the Knoxville faithful think Butch Jones, John Jancek, and Willie Martinez are going to bring a renaissance to Knoxvegas? Wasn’t Dooley supposed to be the interim guy that stabilizes the program until you can find an A+ caliber coach? And, now, you are turning the whole program over again?

JUST LIKE FOOTBALL.......lighten up NO-Ware.
But seriously: Give Fox credit where it is due, this was a spectacular second half game plan. Give the players credit where it is due, it was well executed. Tennessee is a very physical team and the officials were letting both teams play that kind of game. On the defensive side, Georgia kept the big men from establishing position and kept them off balance. On the offensive side, the offense prospered from strong mid-range jumper shooting and just enough post play to keep the Vol's defense off balance. Two mid-tier teams playing to get into the NIT.

Written on Just McRae can't save the day for UT against Georgia, 78-68:

in response to Ironcity:

There is no such thing as consistency in basketball. Thats why you see so many major upsets every year. Its hard to explain how a team with zero conference wins can beat a top ten team ( happened to both Kansas and Michigan). Its the nature of the game where when things go bad thy seem to compound. As for UT and UGA, it really wasn't a big upset. This team already lost to UGA in Knoxville so to expect them to come into Athens in dominate was a little foolish on our part. To expect Golden to always score and not turn the ball over is also a foolish on our part. The struggles early have put this team in bad shape but there is still hope. Lets hope Golden and the guys hit toe positive switch going forward and that they can feel at home when they play in Nashville on a neutral court.

On the surface...........some disappointment. On the other hand, this guy wasn't God, so to speak, and what matters is getting somebody in here who will do the job and be someone on whom you can depend.

The loyalty thing is something we talk about, but the coaches obviously don't adhere to such.

Now we'll just wait and see what happens. Ideally, we want an all Tennessee staff and right now that's just not happening. Results on the field are what is paramount...........no matter who that happens to be. Players and/or coaches.

Written on David Climer: Alabama's recruiting math doesn't add up:

in response to OrangePride:

No, the NCAA will do nothing about this. Frankly, although it might be an ethical violation it isn't yet a statutory one. And you would think recruits would find this a good reason to good elsewhere, BUT, every kid Alabama goes after is a top line prospect who has ALWAYS been at the top and expects to stay there....even at Alabama. Their confidence in themselves and the chance to be part of these all-star classes is just what they feed on. Our task is to make Tennessee that kind of destination again...it was once. Of course, the NCAA could put a cap on total scholarships "at any time" being say 90 or so. But unless everyone complains, I doubt they will do anything.

There is a cap and it is 85. Right now Little Nicky is not in violation of anything. When the season starts he will be in compliance at 85. Of the current 95 man roster 4 are already gone. Three that mugged the student on campus and another for some check cashing problem. That leaves 6 not unlike Vandy. Bama has 4 fifth years that haven't lettered yet. They will be convinced to leave. That leaves two. Those two will probably have a medical problem.

If you had told me last year at this time that Ole Miss would be the talk of the college football world I would have thought you'd had too much to drink. If the Rebels and Commodores can do it surely UT can figure this stuff out, right?

No doubt. As an aside, per OM, I think we will be concerned over some of the other scholarships that were award to non football players that are somehow related to those big name players.

Your point is well taken..Cincy coming back in the Belk Bowl is not a barometer for mental toughness..that comeback had more to do with Duke unforced mistakes than mental toughness of Cincy..I also think the point that the Vol team last year lacked mental toughness is a very valid one..this ain't all they lacked and I agree with those who say it's going to take a while..Jones seems to be doing the best he can ..and I see no sense in being critical or nit picking before evidence justifies it..as it did with Dooley..

There were several games last year where UT got behind early but managed to climb back into it. It just seems like when the O started to drive and maybe .... snatch victory from the jaws of defeat .... it would just come apart. Example: uSC. You had to believe at the end with UT driving they were going to win that game. In fact I said to my Aunt while watching it. " I'll be darned... UT is gonna win this thing. How bout that!" AND THEN DISASTER strikes. Tackles wiffs on a block, Brey is hit.. fumble ... GameCock ball. I couldn't believe. Neither could my Aunt. She said: "What just happened? What just happened?" Snake bit I said.
