I like his attitude and what he had to day. Hopefully he'll pan out better than Hammy.
I'm guessing some of you will criticize him since several of you all have criticized posters on here for being negative. Sounds like his thoughts were pretty negative following that loss too.
Good riddance. We have struggled in all areas of special teams over the past two years under him. I'm curious as to why he would get hired if they've watched tape of our special teams. The only thing that kept our special teams from being completely horrible is that we happen to find a talented kick returner.
He should have been let go anyway in my opinion.
Just the same as all year....the grading is a joke. No way this team deserves a C-.
I might be wrong, but from what I saw I thought he was one that needed to stay.
Meanwhile, I think some other coaches on the offensive side need to go....and I think it's glaringly obvious that we need a new coach for special teams.
in response to John_10065: Why has the kicking game become our perennial sore spot? I used to cringe on 3rd and long when we were on defense but now it is anytime there is a kick of any form. Am I wrong in thinking that we haven't had a nerves of steel placekicker since Hall? (given he never had a strong leg but he was nearly automatic from 40 yards in) Do we have to go get a phonebook and find another Colquitt? Muffed balls, kick off out of bounds, less than 30 yard punts, poor coverage etc. It just keeps happening. We've improved recently in some areas but I almost think we need an open tryout like the 1976 Eagles just for a punter and a place kicker.

I've been saying this same thing, and I think the special teams coach needs to be evaluated....and then most likely replaced. For 2 seasons we've had issues in all aspects of special teams.......time to get it fixed whatever it takes.
in response to AllforTenn: What other team has had the schedule Tennessee has, the key players out at key times? part of Georgia, then LSU, Alabama, S. Carolina, Arkansas without our QB. Georgia suddenly without Hunter. All without Leathers. Then Brewer, etc. Toughest schedule in nation might just play into it, huh?

I didn't dispute the schedule, no one could. I knew we weren't going to win as many games as most people thought. I'm not necessarily looking at the scoreboard...I'm looking at things that should get better and adjustments that should be made and show no matter who we're playing....and win or lose. There are consistently bad things about the team. Take the run game for example. It has been substandard against even weaker teams on our schedule when it should be getting better. In my opinion, the part of Dooley's staff responsible for that should be evaluated and possibly some changes made.
Just my opinion.
in response to cooper65#432178: I agree. I've been disappointed with this season like everyone else, but given the circumstances our record is about right. Next year, if we don't show improvement, we need to look at our HC. For now, I think we have to give Coach Dooley a chance, but changes to the offensive staff should be made at the end of the season. I think any problems on defense are because of lack of depth and speed, not coaching.

This is what my point in my earlier post was. There need to be some minor changes. The inept run game is unacceptable at this point. I also think at least some of the special teams struggles should have been fixed by now.
in response to V_O_L_S_GO_VOLS_GO: List 'em. I dare you. Oh yeah, don't forget the fact that the NCAA has us slated with the #1 most difficult strength of schedule when you're struggling to defend your position of "other teams with just as much or less..." Pure bafoonery at its best.

Fundamentals are still fundamentals. Did you not see the Arkansas punt return? I'm looking at consistency....and our special teams have struggled consistently in every area for the last two years.
It's not that we lost to the powerhouses...I get that. We weren't supposed to win those games. I'm not talking about cleaning house....I'm just saying there needs to be some serious evaluation done. I do believe we should be better in special teams and we should be better in the run game at this point....and we're not.
And what's your excuse for the consistent 3rd quarter let downs? I've listened to former players mention how they don't see how youth is still an excuse given the amount of starts these guys have.
Thanks for the "bafoonery" though.
Changes need to be made. I'm not saying Dooley needs to go, but he needs to seriously evaluate his staff. The youth and talent excuse is getting old. There are other teams out there with just as much or less......and doing a lot better than we are. Like not getting embarrassed on national television.
We need a new special teams coach....period. They've been consistently bad and inconsistent in the past two years. Some changes have to be made.....and I'm not buying youth and talent excuses.
C-? Really?
I still won't pay for it.
::yawn:: In other news....the Lady Vols look poised to make a deep run at another National Championship.
Hopson needs to quit looking like he just wet his pants on the playground.
On another note....how 'bout them Lady Vols! We should hear more news about them. They deserve the publicity. Or is that just too positive of a story for KNS?
We've had these issues with our basketball and football programs...and there was initial mention of baseball too, but I didn't see any allegations against them by the NCAA.
Who is the man in charge...the AD right? So why does HE still have a job? IMO he should go. I think it would be the right call as a big step towards fixing the problem, and to show folks we won't tolerate this kind of stuff at UT.
3 words for you folks who aren't Vol fans but spend your time reading through other teams blogs...
Get A Life.
Seriously? Don't you have kids you could be spending more time with? A wife? A blanket to knit? Something?
(This comment was removed by the site staff.)
Does anyone pay for this phooey? Most of what I've seen from KNS is that they are the last of the Vol news sources to break a story, and you can get better details from other sites.
God Bless and God Speed Nick. I'm sure he'll make it in eventually if he continues to pursue the NFL. Any team would be lucky to have him.

24th best in the nation? I would have thought he should be ranked higher than that. Top 15 or top 20 at least.
Pay for more news about Lane Kiffin? Pay to get stuff after the other sports news sites have already reported it?
Does improved service mean they will actually get picture captions matched right and spell things correctly?
No thanks. I don't believe it will be worth it.
Great.....been deployed the entire season.....just got back. This would have been the only game I would have gotten to see this season. lol
Oh well....guess it'll be the only game I'll get to see on TV all season now instead of in person.
I personally would love to see Tee Martin and Al Wilson both make it to the Big Orange staff.
We love you Tee, but we don't have to like you this week. GO VOLS!!
Unfortunately due to the time zone I'm in and work I was asleep during the game.....sounds like our 3rd quarter woes reared their head again.
in response to jobrando#216494: From the poll 90 percent of us think that Bray should start the remainder of the season. We are not all blind but something else has been going on with holding back Bray and it has nothing to do with taking a hit. He has been bouncing up from hits just like Simms. Just because he's lanky doesnt mean he's not tough.

True, but Bray hasn't taken nearly as many hits. I believe Bray will be the better option, but it's been good to have Simms in there as the tackle dummy. If you remember, the biggest concern about Bray was his size. He should be steadily getting beefier. Who knows, maybe he would have held up to all the punishment. We'll never know, but the coaches went with the safer option knowing we had a super weak o-line.
Wow....must be a heck of a curve they're grading on. Seems we've lowered our standards and are accepting 4 turnovers a game. I see too many posters saying yea "turnovers are going to happen". Yea...but that doesn't mean you accept them. Esp not 4 in a losing effort.
I love the Vols as much as anyone, but look at where we're at. The bottom of the SEC. Right down there with Vandy. I'll always support my team, but sometimes you've just got to be a realist. Also....look how close we were to being 1-7.
The freshman.....Tyler Bray...does nothing but praise Simms play, and took ownership of the big interception to his receivers.
The 4 year QB....Simms....does nothing but whine and complain without taking any blame. He seems to think he's the man even though he hasn't proven it.
I say go with Bray. You take a risk in going with either of them. Bray's lack of experience, and Simms whining. I don't trust Simms to properly prepare and be in the right mental state to win if he's too busy whining about why he got benched or that he might not start or play.
in response to volpreacher: I wasn't happy after the LSU game because of the sub thing either. But as no one on here pointed out, Alabama was flagged for having too many people on the field against UT, and SC was also flagged today for having too many on the field. So I guiss SC and Ala should fire Spurrier and Saban. Give it time guys. And by the way, no one is lowering standards. 4 turnovers were bad but it does happen.

Noone said fire anyone now, but if we're not competing in the SEC in 5 years we need to re-look our coaching staff. And point proven....you're accepting the 4 turnovers. No team should have 4 turnovers and say "it does happen". Yes it happens, but on good teams it's unacceptable.
I support my Vols through and through, but that doesn't mean you can't be critical of their play. Even Dooley is more of a realist than most of the posters on here. It is what it is. I love the Vols as much as anyone, but facts are facts and we're just not an SEC caliber team right now.
Seems like Vols fans are lowering their standards quite a bit. I can't call this a great game with 4 turnovers. I can't be happy about it. I'm a realist. I am happy with Brays performance though and think he should get a start. He's obviously the future, not Simms. Simms is no freshman, if he hasn't gotten it by now.....he's not going to.
I'm also not convinced our coaching staff is all that. There are mistakes that happen consistently every week that should be getting fixed. I'm not saying they're bad coaches, just that they could obviously be better. I'm just not drinking the Dooley kool-aid yet. I love his philosophies on coaching and raising men, just not sure yet about the product he'll put on the field. I'm giving him time though.
I say in three years we should be competing in the SEC, and if we're not in 5 years...then Dooley should be on the hot seat.
Either way....my heart is always with the VOLS! Go Big Orange!
Pretty classless article. I'm a realist though.
Really stinks that we will most likely get an 8 loss or more season.
3 games at least now we've had issues with getting the correct number of people on the field. There's no excuse for that. Pretty poor play calling too leading up to the also bad call of a 51 yrd fg attempt. I also didn't understand covering J Jones one on one most of the game.
I know what our issues are, but I'm really unimpressed with our coaching staff thus far.
There should be a choice about how disappointed in the coaches we should be.
I'm glad we played close to such a good team, but LSU's performance was pretty bad in this game.
I didn't get to watch because of my current location, but this sounds like bad coaching. Yes we should have stopped them on the 4th down, but with the game on the line there 13 on the field is unacceptable. Don't we have a staff guy on the sideline counting players like some other teams? Someone should have noticed and called a timeout. That is if we had any timeouts left.
As I recall we had a pretty good defense consistently under Chavis. One that held us in games (win or lose) all these years we've had a struggling offense.
This article doesn't give me any valid points why Fulmer wouldn't make a good AD. I'm not saying he would, but this doesn't show otherwise at all.
I would choose Pat Summit first though if I had to pick someone. I would say do whatever it took to get her in the seat.
in response to FearlessFreep: UT is basically screwed this season due to the offensive line issues. It will pay off in years three and four, but for now they're going to have to take their lumps and it could get ugly. We've already seen the script for most of the rest of UT's games: Ineffective offense leads to the defense being on the field way too long, and eventually because of depth on that side of the ball (particularly on the line), opponents will wear the Vols down late in the game. It'll get better, just not this year.

I wouldn't say we're screwed, but it is what it is. We've seen this happened in seasons before where an inept offense leaves our D hangin too long.
We're not going to be contenders for Atlanta obviously and maybe not for the next couple years.....but that's ok.
Like Dooley said in an earlier article....it's a process. Let's just stay behind the team and enjoy watching them get better and better. I'm looking forward to the ride back to the top.
in response to movol77: Agreed. Dooley's interview was refreshing. He tells it like it is. You can't help but like this coach.

I agree. I love brutal honesty. He doesn't sugar-coat much.
However, it's his job as HC to fix the problems...so there's going to come a point where calling players out and whatnot will get old if stuff isn't fixed. Not all the time, but there will be times. It's up to the players to perform...but they still need good coaching and I think Dooley is probably a great coach.

Different year.....same story.
My boss is a UF fan.....we need this win. I so want to plant a Big Orange T on his door tomorrow.
Worthless article. The headline tells you as much as the article.
How many times are they going to put stories out about the same thing with the same quotes?
I love you people who come on here just to talk trash.
We need to make one of those "real men of genius" commercials for you.

I'm with ya. I was in Egypt back then and got the game on VHS tape recorded. I kept watching it over and over wondering how they could call it a catch.
Let's hope our defense can stuff their run game at least equally, and hopefully our offense will be able to stay on the field to give our D plenty of rest. I think we have a good chance to win this one.
Go Vols!
Can Pat coach both teams? lol
We live and we learn. I'm glad most people here think they are judge and juror. If you were there that night and saw it all, then please speak up. Otherwise, the rest of you are throwing out opinions.
I have faith in CDD as a teacher of men, I believe if this kid can be taught a lesson....he will be. If not, he'll screw up again and hopefully we'll kick him to the curb.

Two great games. I was a young'un listening to John Ward make that field goal call on the radio, and I was down in NO during Katrina and watched that LSU game sitting on a treadmill in the gym of a naval reserve base.
Luckily the storm delay made staying awake too much for me the other night since it was a 2am kick off where I'm at.
I'm a Fulmer fan, and I do believe he admitted to his lackluster recruiting his last few years. I have more of a life than to look it all up to make sure, but I think he did admit it at some point.
That being said, I think it was poor of him to pick Florida. Didn't like that at all.
