Written on UPDATED: Martin grants Yemi Makanjuola release from Tennessee to transfer:

Yemi, You were one of my favorite players on the team. I enjoyed watching you play every time you came onto the floor. Your attitude was great and you were a team guy. I wish you nothing but good in the future. Keep your head up, as good things are coming your way!!!!

Written on CAK's Charlie High bulking up for QB transition to Tennessee:

Mr. Charlie High, You have my respect already, coming in as a walk-on and taking on all these "Big Time" QBs. I wish you well as you start your journey here at UT.

Written on With coaches on sidelines, UT defense will be pushed toward 'accountability' in scrimmage:

You win games with great defense. If the other team only scores a field goal, then it takes only 4 points to win the game. That's the way football used to be played. I have never liked each team scoring 50 points a piece. Play tough defense and get back to Tennessee football. Make Tennessee proud. You can do this.

Written on UT baseball starts with a rally, ends with a blowout in doubleheader split with Missouri :

Coach is right, great pitching will win a lot of games. Your effort is very good, and things will get better. Hang in there!!!!!!!!

Written on Mike Strange: In many ways, things seem same after Cunozo Martin's second season :

When I was growing up and watching UT play BB, I could guess pretty good who they would beat, and who they would lose to. But not anymore. The team is very inconsistent from game to game. They seem to play hard one game and then not show up the next game. Why?? Why would you not come out every game and be prepared and play hard for everyone who is counting on you. If you are going to play the game, then play the game. Maybe the coach is not preparing you the way he should. I will be honest with you, I like the coach a whole lot. I think he has something good about him. He is not a weasel like the Kentucky coach, and some of these other coaches. I think he actually cares about his players and what happens to them. I think he cares about the fans and what they think. There is something good there. I hope his players will play hard for him next year. I think they will. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. Time will tell!!!!!!!!!

Written on Nick Williams to benefit from new pitching plan:

I said at the beginning of the season, that this team would have a hard time winning. There is a lot of youth on the team, and not a lot of big hitters. You have to hit the ball out of the park once in a while to compete with the big boys. "Bunt Ball" is a good weapon, but you need the long ball also to do well. I like the coach and I like the players, and I hope they will hang in there and play smart and tough and win a lot of games.

Written on Cuonzo Martin baffled by Vols' NCAA tournament snub:

in response to Sir_Spanky:

Look, between Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi you lost 6 out of 7. And you gave another game or two away at the foul line. And there were times you should have been in zone when you were getting slashed to death or couldn't handle ball screens for some reason. It adds up, Cuonzo. I'm sorry, but your team didn't look well coached against Alabama. It was hard to watch. Now if your players don't want to play in the NIT you shouldn't accept their invitation. It's not their fault. Please don't go into it and lay down like you did last year.

I think you are pretty right on in what you say......Coach the team up and win some games and quit crying. Don't give the committee a chance to keep you out.....

Written on Vols lose to Alabama, will play the waiting game for NCAA tournament:

You have to play big in big games. UT did not do that. As the ole saying goes, maybe next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Written on Mike Strange: No more sitting for Vols' Quinton Chievous:

This kid knows how to play basketball. He seems to be in the right place at the right time. You are born with that. Glad to see him do well.

Written on PG Darius Thompson likes Cuonzo Martin, UT program:

I like both of those guards, Thompson and Hubbs. If you sign both of them, then Tennessee BB will go straight up. Any "Big" would want to be fed by those guys. Tennesse BB is about to take off. Buckle your seatbelts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Written on Lady Vols have new location to view selection show:

I like the way they played this year. They played hard almost every game. Holly did a good job to keep things together. Next year Holly will do great as will the players.

Written on John Adams: Expectations are still expected for Lady Vols:

in response to Theo:

Good grief. Think you guys drove into the ditch didn't you? Some wierd diatribe regarding a sportswriter reporting the men's football team does not have a very diverse staff to questioning JAs zone, whatever that is, to we interupt this sports thread to bring you a sanctimonious advertisement.
How about we discuss Lady Vol basketball on the Lady Vol basketball thread?

Theo, Us two guys did not drive into a ditch. We didn't have a wierd diatribe and tried not to bring a sanctimonious advertisement. We love Tennessee sports, but we love our Lord Jesus Christ more, and it justs comes out. That's what is in our hearts, and we still have the freedom to express it. What came out of the article for me was that people take so seriouly what John says, and really not care at all what God says. I was just speaking my mind a bit. I think I was right in what I was saying. Quit being so mad at people who believe the Bible. And pray for John while you are into this article.

Written on John Adams: Expectations are still expected for Lady Vols:

in response to VolMoment:

John Adams?????? The people who defend Adams don't look very deep at this person. Recently when Jay Graham left, Adams wrote part of his article about that only left one black on Jones staff, which was not Jones fault. He tried to hire Tee Martin and that would have been three before Jay's departure. But would have actually been five with Terry Fair and A. Davis. Coaches hire the best they can get and those who have been sucessful with them in prior jobs. In this time of history the coachs don't look at hires the way a sorry sports writer does. White fans don't look up and see all black assistance coachs on Cunzo Martin's staff and say where are the white coachs. Coach Martin has who he feel wil help him and I want him to win so that is fine. At the Florida game a few days after Adams's article I observed when the the teams lined up for the National Anthem, that Flordia had eight coaches and support staff lined up at center court. Guess what? ONE was black and SEVEN were white. And he can recruit blacks contary to what Adams said in article about recruiting blacks. Did Adams write an article about the ratio on Billy Donovant's staff.
No because that wouldn't be negative toward UT.
Does anyone know how many black sportwriters Adams hired in his years of Sports Editor at KNS or prior employment??
The answer is NONE. Again NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very, very good intelligent post. John is a person who sees UT in a negative way. I saw him on the internet the other day, and he looks like he is in a different zone than your normal person would be in. He just has that look!!! If he bothers you, just don't read his stuff. In eternity, none of this will even matter: Just small stuff. Read a statement the other day which really put things in perspective..."Tennessee football is the most important thing among all the things which are unimportant." Quite a statement and I think it to be true. What do you think?

Written on Riley Ferguson embraces Vols' quarterback battle:

You don't win big with offence. You win big with defence. We had good offence this past year. We scored 50 and the other team would score 51. Whether or not we have defence will tell the tale of sucess this year. You always need to recruit big nasty linemen to win. We did not do well this year. Not good.....

Written on John Adams: Role players play a major role to back McRae :

in response to creekroad:

What a poorly written piece....you weren't prepared for us to win and had to throw your first article away, right John?

I have to agree with creekroad. I have read you many times John, and you have a knack for the negative part of the program, than you do the positive. You seem to delight yourself when Tennessee loses a game or something else negative happens in the program. You have a character hangup, no doubt about that. Maybe because of your childhood...who knows! You will meet the Lord soon, and He knows all about you and what makes you enjoy the dark side of things. I think I know why, but I will let Him tell you......

Written on Jay Graham leaving Vols for Florida State:

You know, loyalty is no longer much in the human race. There is some, but not a lot. It's about ME, ME, and ME. What's best for MEEEE! It's a shame, but it is what it is. When I grew up, the Bible had an influence on people where their word meant something. When a man shook your hand and told you his intentions, their word was sure. You could count on their word because they had honor. Not much Bible left in our society, not much honor and loyalty either. Our society thought we could get along without God back in the 60's and 70's and now we are left with a mess. Jay leaving is just part of that mess. I liked him and would hope that he would be different, but not to be. It is sad. My wife ask me some months ago, "Do they not have to fulfill their contracts;Do they not have to sign a paper saying they will do certain things or be there a certain time?" She could not grasp that you would agree to do something and it meant nothing to anyone. The world has gone insane, no doubt about it.

Written on UT baseball frustrated on offense, drops home opener against Arizona State, 4-0 :

Like I said a week ago, it's tough being young. Hope today will be better.

Written on Vols getting the shooting bug:

in response to vol98champ:

Like most teams, we are great when the 3's are falling. Unlike most good teams we(until lately)appear completely lost when they aren't.
I posted very early that this could be a problem.

Tennessee has a lot of players who can go to the rim, sooooo go to the rim if the 3's are not falling. Go to the rim anyway.... A two foot shot is usually better than a twenty foot shot. Texas A&M will be a good gauge for this team.

Written on Cuonzo Martin talks about confident Vols:

Told you last week that I liked Coach Martin. He stands by his players and he has character. I believe he has the know how to get this done. Can the players back him up and be consistent. They have to have enough character to do that or nothing works. I believe they do have what it takes!!!!!!!!!!

Written on Dave Serrano: 'This team will get better as we go along' :

With 21 new players, I don't see that good of a season as far as wins. You are going up against some veteran teams, a lot of them. Hope the wins come. Reality may set in. I am glad Coach Serrano is our coach and think that he will get it done. Hope to drive to Knoxville for some games this year.

Written on Vols find recipe for victory on the road, 58-46 :

I said in previous posts that I like Coach Martin. He seems to have character, he has a calmness about him, and he stands by his players. I like that. I hope the team wins many more games. They will if they will stick together and play hard. I have played sports, and it feels so good to win on the road and talk about it on the way home. A win over Kentucky would give the team some credibility. I like Golden still playing hard after losing his starting job. Tells you something about the young man. He's got it on the inside.

Written on Stokes named SEC Player of the Week after lifting Vols to first road win:

I am not a BB player, don't know much about the game. But I think it is ok for the coach to crow a little. Victory makes a person feel good as we all know. So, I would let the coach feel good for a while. He's had a rough year and I really don't want to add to his hurt. He needs a couple of shooters who can shoot the lights out, and he will have a better team. Give him some support and see if things work out. I like the defence, just need some baskets made. It's still BB, and you need someone to shoot the ball in the basket to win a lot of games. I like the coach. I think he is a decent man who wants to win. I believe he will get the job done, and we will crow some and maybe a whole lot next year. May the good Lord help you coach!!!!!!!!!

Written on John Adams: Surprise: Lady Vols ahead of last season's pace :

These girls are more for team this year. Just seem like there was more individual effort last year. As often heard, there is no "I" in team. Hope this year's "TEAM" does well as we ride into the finish......

Written on Miserable? Not Derek Dooley working as TV analyst :

Why be so critical? It shows more about you than about Coach Dooley. In the world we live in.........I wish him well!!!!

Written on Former Tennessee coach Derek Dooley confirms he is going to the Dallas Cowboys :

We wish you well coach. Sorry it did not work out here. You came into a bad sitution. Why would people want to beat on this man. Let's move forward. I don't agree with the payments to be made until 2016, but that is not Coach Dooley's fault.

Written on No timetable for Isabelle Harrison's return after knee surgery :

One of my favorite players. She has improved so much since last year. The lady knows how to play the game. Get well. We are waiting for your return......

Written on Tennessee governor says Vols must fill Neyland:

I have watched UT football for 55 years. Always loved to drive to the game, smell the smells, hear the sounds, see the sights. Then one day gas went up, tickets went up, food went up, had to start paying a parking fee. Had to walk quite a distance and sit in a smaller seat with a knee in my back. When I pay for something, I like to get my money's worth, as they say. No one in their right mind wants to pay a lot for a little. The product needs to be attactive with a substance of quality. My wife and I just felt like it had got to be too much to go to a game. That was a sad day to say the least. I do like Coach Jones and his appoach to the game. He has that look in his eye, and I hope winning will follow. A lot has changed since I went to UT.

Written on Kamiko Williams makes most of first start in 2 years for Lady Vols, 88-45 :

in response to underthehill:

Kamiko on the floor gives the Lady Vols the best chance to beat the better teams..such as Notre Dame..she got on the floor after ND had a big lead..she helped the rally and was on the floor when the half ended..she did not start the 2nd half and the game was basically over when she got back in..makes no sense to me ..I don't care whose doghouse she got in..put your best players on the floor..Kamiko is one of ..if not the best ...on this team..

I remember seeing Kamiko in her freshman year in her first game coming up the floor with the ball, and I said to my wife, "I don't know who #4 is, but she looks like a ballplayer." I was right and wonder why she has not played more. She knows how to play the game. Why was she in the dog house. Get her out please!

Written on UT's prayers answered as Vanderbilt misses chances to win at buzzer:

I think I agree with a couple of others on this board. I just do not see improvement on this team. Should we not see improvement? I am for the coach and his staff and also for the players. I just would like to see some improvement. I don't know that much about BB, but I know when something looks good, and this brand of BB does not look good. I hope improvement comes in the future. We are for you coach!!!!!!!!

Written on UT tells students not to paint Rock to welcome recruits:

People love to make rules. It gives them a sense of being in charge, having control over their fellow man. The government is going through this right now as we speak. It's a power thing in the heart of man. Man's heart is deceiveful and wicked above all things, according to the Bible. Making painting a little ole rock some big deal. Isn't that something......

Written on Derek Dooley to offer recruiting commentary on ESPNU's National Signing Day coverage :

I like Coach Dooley and still do. He did not have much to work with when he got here. A few points here and there and coach Dooley would still be here. He needed more support and more time to make it work. The fans want too much to soon. Our society is sick with results. I think he did about as well as he could do under the circumstances. I hope he does well in the future. He took on a HUGE PROJECT and did not get it completely done. That is not a sin. That is just human struggle. I hope coach Jones and staff do well.

Written on Vols come together, 12-9:

Mark it down. Raleigh will be successful at Tennessee. He has a good feel for the game and knows what he is doing. Just hang in there with him. The wins will come. Another good hire by the H- man.

Out here at the Grand Canyon, I keep up with UT sports on the computer. Real proud of the baseball team. They play hard and that will win you some games. I think Coach Raleigh has the touch. I like his thinking and attitude. Another good hire by Tennessee. These guys can play and don't seem to be afraid of anyone. I like that! Now go win you some games. We are proud!!!!!!!!!

You have made me proud.........The Grand Canyon Vol

Written on Colquitt suspended for 5 games and loses scholarship after DUI charge:

This is a shame. Some of the players nowadays, not all, but some could care less about their parents, their school, their teamates, or God Himself. Just care about themselves and what feels good at the moment. They have no character and no class. Every school has these problems, but we seem to have more than our share. I am starting to get tired of these situations and also Tennessee football. I find myself not as interested in Tennessee sports as I used to be. These kind of things make you very, very sick.

Written on Strange: Halfway home but lots of work ahead for Vols:

I loved that win over Florida. It was like eating a big piece of chocolate cake with a cold glass of milk. Very yummy indeed. Thanks for the good night Tennessee players and Coach Pearl. I want some more of that cake.

Written on UT to interview DeBord and Loeffler Wednesday:

All of these interviews are about to wear me out. We had nearly 20 inches of snow here at the Grand Canyon the past two days. Just beautiful! I hope cpf makes some good decisions. I would like to see Tennessee football again.

Written on 'It's my whole life' for Crompton :
