BB is a man-child. A boy in a man's body. His physical stats look great, but a close inspection of his behavior reveals the committment level of a child. I don't think there is any chance he can withstand the rookie hazing of the NFL veterans. My prediction is he will quit before September.

in response to Navaloranges:

"Jackie Sherrill proved that at Mississippi State by signing 4-5 JUCO's every year."

That was slicksnakeskin's comment. Like you said, Dooley signed 3 last year to fill some voids, and could sign 3 more this year, to do the same thing. I don't know if you keep up with slick's comments, but he was not trying to be logical. He was saying that Dooley is so "dumb", that juco's are in his regular recruiting plan, totally ignoring our current roster deficiencies. If ANYBODY needs to be "attacked" on here, per say, it's him. Dooley is doing exactly what he needs to do to continue to pull top 10 classes. It's impressive that he is doing it without a good record, instead of the other way around.

If you're judging Dooley on recruiting, you should be saying he's doing an outstanding job. If you're judging his coaching ability, you SHOULD wait until he has the recruiting in place to compete. slicksnakeskin is simply BASHING Dooley, not trying to logical or objective in ANY way.

Agreed!

Written on UT's end-of-season report card :

in response to volfan7:

Anyone see the LSU-Georgia game last night. The defense, with John Chavis as coordinator, dominated throughout. If Fulmer had not been let go, we would have Chavis still, and we would have finished a lot better than 5-7. Who knows, maybe 10-2.

When a system is running reasonably well, one does not throw out the system in favor of a young coach with a famous name. Tennessee deserves everything it got this year, and it is all due to the whims of a fickle fan base that thinks it knows everything, but in fact knows nothing at all.

Some good and not so good points.
First, the not so good points...
Fulmer had no problem finishing 5-6 and 5-7 in 2005 and 2008. Chief was my favorite of all former UT coaches, but both he and Fulmer seemed to suffer from an inability to keep good position coaches. How many 3rd and longs were completed on our historic defenses? In hindsight, Fulmer could have coached as long as he wanted, if he had been able to select quality position coaches, and a good OC.

For all the fans screaming for change, change is what started this mess. Recruiting well is essential for us to restore the losses due to attrition. Dooley seems to be doing that. Yes, 5-7 hurts, but with having the 2nd youngest team in FBS and playing the 2nd toughest schedule, was there ever a chance it would have been much different?
Look at Georgia - they won our division, and LSU buried another bulldog in Atlanta last night. They looked silly against LSU in the 2nd half ... AND THEY WON OUR DIVISION. UGA fans should have a lot more to be upset about because they are at full strength. We are rebuilding and have the same expectations?! I'm sorry, but to expect different doesn't make any friggin' sense.

Looking at the schedule for next year, we need to win 9, and in 2013 we need to be at 10+ wins. If we're not there, then I'll be ready to revisit whether this program is headed in the right direction.

Written on Tauren Poole talks about 'dysfunctional' last few years, frustrations:

I can understand Poole's frustrations. I can also understand how a handful of seniors and juniors aren't enough to set the tone for an entire team. Depth issues have not only affected on the field, but in the locker room as well.

As far as Dooley being critical, he was brought in to win a championship and the guys just have to realize the current level of performance won't cut it. Love it or hate it, it's still the truth.

Our guys need to remember the failure of the Kentucky game every day until September 2012.

Written on David Climer: Derek Dooley must start today to repair attitude of players:

The infighting is typical of a team lacking senior leadership. Our team was beat-up and still extremely young, and we played like it yesterday. Those in the know, knew it would take time to rebuild depth and it wouldn't be a quick fix. When you start talking about changing coaches, ask yourself who wants to inherit a young team for a school that produces very little D1 talent in the toughest conference suffering the effects from a coaching carousel. The grim answer is NO ONE - if so, we would have hired them before Dooley.
I like Dooley and think he is a great fit for our proud university. Hamilton got us into this mess with his classless handling of Fulmer and knee-jerk hiring of Kiffin. Terminating anyone on the coaching staff will only prolong the recovery.
My suggestion is to stop panicking and help support our boys through the toughest of times.

Written on David Climer: James Franklin, Derek Dooley coach up heat of rivalry:

in response to stevefrommemphis:

Franklin does have a point. Why is Tennessee acting like they won the Super Bowl when they beat Vanderbilt?

The result will be the same next year. Unlike most previous years, Tennessee was the team with injury and depth problems in November. Vanderbilt missed their chance to beat UT last Saturday.

For a Vandy fan, you aren't very smart. Tennessee was excited, not because they beat the perennial doormat, but because they overcame the biggest hurdle to becoming bowl eligible.

Enjoy the close games while they lasted, Dooley's next class will close up the majority of the depth issues, and our team next year will compete for the SEC East title. Vanderbilt will still be duking it out with Kentucky for the bottom of the barrel and Franklin will start eying another bottom-tier school.

Mark it.

Written on Tennessee-Vanderbilt Report Card :

in response to bobmcreynolds#663132:

Really? Beating Vanderbilt in overtime is a cornerstone win for Dooley? Has Tennessee football really fallen that far that the faithful get excited by barely beating the Commodores in overtime at home? My, oh my, it will be a long time before Tennessee athletics is relevant again. Thanks again, Mike Hamilton, for ruining every major UT sport and you managed to do it in less than 7 years.

If you can't cut Dooley some slack for inheriting a mess, because people were too gutless to transition Fulmer out in a classy way, and you can't cut Dooley any slack for having the youngest team in Division 1, or having the most difficult schedule any team has played in years (5 top 15 opponents including playing the #1, #2 and #3 teams in the country), then I doubt you are a real UT fan anyway. You sound like some whining fanboy that bounces from team to team based.
I suggest you turn in your fan card and move on.

Written on Tennessee-Vanderbilt Report Card :

in response to shocker:

Dooley gets a B for coaching? I thought the coaching was no better than a D. How does he explain the last 20 seconds of regulation when they get the ball back, complete a 7 yard pass, BURNS 10 seconds off the clock, THEN calls timeout with 2 seconds left, only to kneel to end regulation? His coaching ability has been questionable and head scratching for 2 seasons now. This has nothing to do with inexperienced players, injuries, or lack of a depth chart. This guy just has no clue on how to coach or manage a game!!!!

Lighten up, Francis.

He said the same thing when they fired him at Arkansas. I never understood why the Rebels hired him in the first place. He's a good coach, but he couldn't recruit. He would probably make a good assistant head coach or coordinator who doesn't recruit.

Written on UT-Alabama Report Card :

in response to volfan7:

Effectively working off the same script with a few improvements, the Vols turned in a competitive first half and held its own with another highly-ranked opponent.

Are you serious? We have not been able to hold our own, first half or second half, against any credible SEC opponent. Scoring two field goals, and no touchdowns, is not being competitive. It is being pathetic and laughable.

Dry your tears. The first half was a classic SEC defensive battle. Holding the most talent-rich team in the country to 6, in their house, is a major accomplishment.
We were rolled in the 2nd half, which is what every prognosticator predicted. We obviously still have a ways to go, which will require great recruiting, a healthy team, and a little luck.
I hate taking a beating, especially by any of our SEC opponents, but we need to forget about last night and focus on a beatable South Carolina.

You speaketh the truth. Dave Clawson was hired to install a modern offense; but, Fulmer never backed him. By the end of the 1st half of the the 1st game, Fulmer was running the offense. At Fulmer University everything was done Phil's way.

You didn't see Dave Clawson crying when Phil got canned and Clawson had no trouble finding a new job.

Maybe so, but Clawson is 12-19 at BG with one bowl appearance where they lost. IMO, Fulmer's biggest flaw was being afraid to hire a talented OC.
