To even have a coach mentioned in a national vote is great. Third is very good. Three years ago, the Vols basketball program wasn't mention for anything. BP has put us on the map. Now it the time for a little polish to get over the 16 into the 8 group.

I think BP made some mistakes in the tourney changing point guards and not matching up better with Louisville during their run in the first half but I also think he would admit those mistakes and he will learn from them. I like the fact he openly says something didn't work. Most coaches don't do that. Go Vols and Coach Pearl.

On Pearl third in AP coach of year voting

I remember a dominant player at KY in James Lee. He could go inside and score on anybody. KY fans thought he would be such a NBA star. He had no outside shot. He didn't last a year. In the NBA, you have to have an outside shot when you're only 6'7". With out that, you are meat on the inside.

Tyler needs to work on a jump shot all summer. Add some strength and play another year showing that he has that and make much more money. On the other hand, if he can get 4.1 mil, go for it.

Speaking of work to be done this summer, Ramar, work on a jump shot and free throws. Same for JP. On Vols weakness was lack of out side threat with these guys. Teams waited inside on them.

Go Vols

On Adams: Louisville too much to overcome

Coming into this game, Louisville was hot, Vols were not. After watching Louisville two times, I picked they would beat us badly. They did. Rick knows how to get his teams to peak at the right time. Bruce will learn how to do that. Vols played poorly after the Memphis win and couldn't get over the edge. Blame whoever you want, but I see Howell's shooting as the key. I am not blaming Howell, these things happen. I am just saying that everything changed when Howell's shooting went South.
Now for next year. If Ramar is going to drive the basket, he has to learn how to shoot free throws. Driving, getting fouled and missing free throws are like turnovers, only they take longer and are more painful.
If JP and Ramar are our guards, then they need to work all summer on a three point shot. If they don't, the big guys are in trouble.
Great year. Go VOLS.

I love Coach Pearl most of the time. He gambles and win, most of the time. The Vols have had a great year and losing to Rick is nothing new. Rick knows how to get his team up at the end of the season. We peaked way too early and Bruce will learn how to get ready at the right time as he will keep getting back. Hey, a few years ago we wouldn't even be having these discussions. Way to go Bruce.

Now, for the bad stuff, changing point guards was stupid but not for the reason most people give. Sure JP had too many turnovers, but all year JP has given a lift coming in 3-4 minutes into the game. Playing point took away that boost.
I thank everyone would agree that Bruce got out coached. As a coach, let me tell you that sometimes things are going on behind the scenes that you don't see. Lofton's sprained ankle in the second half of the Bulter game. We would all agree that playing his son seemed like a horrible decision. However, maybe his son looked great in practice all week. I have done things like that and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
Great year but the truth is not the talent level. These kids are very talented. The fact is the team went down hill when Howell's shooting went south. Howell was important to the team (when he was shooting well). We peaked too early and it cost us in the end. Maybe Bruce felt compelled to change things because Howell couldn't shoot. Maybe he had too, I don't know what was going on in practice and so on. Only the players and Bruce know that.
Bottom line, another very good year.
