Written on Louisville stops Lady Vols' run to Final Four, 86-78:

in response to Teresa:

How funny. The leading scorer in the SEC. Also named All American. She had 12 points in that frantic comeback so just shut up. In our many wins, does she get any credit then? Shooters are streaky.

Her year to date stats are better than Shoni of Louisville. She's on a roll. If she starts out cold Sunday, should their coach sit her?

I think Simmons is a great scorer!! However, she does come with flaw and all!! I do believe that Simmons hurt us in this game. She was turned over and they weren't forced turnovers. She literally through the ball to the other player!!

I respect Simmons and her game but these fans are right. She doesn't seem to play well under pressure. She showed up in the last 4 minutes of the game hitting 4 threes. We need production out of her that we didn't get!!

That being said I don't think any of our players pleayed well! Jones was foul crazy! Our players couldn't hit free throws. In the end, free throws can win or lose a game. We missed 8, that was what we lost by!! Had we hit our free throws the game could have gone differently.

Furthermore, our guards were throwing up threes (airballs I might add). Our posts were getting in there battling and they didn't get the ball!! Hello, those are and-one opportunities!!

Collectively we probably had our poorest first half of the season!!! The three wasn't falling and why they kept attempting them was beyond me.

I personally would have liked to see the ball in the hands of Williams. She did a great job getting in the post area and hitting that 12 foot jumper, she was money and did a great job of scoring. Taber started hitting on some fadeaways.

These ladies need to learn how to finish through contact and finish the and-one!! They had a great season. They have so much more to add next season with some healthy bodies!! Everyone returns with the exception of Williams and Spani. I am excited about that!!!

I think the player of the game was Williams

The worst player of the game Massengale/Simmons!!! I have a hard time believing Massengale was a McDonald's All American, she didn't play like one. I know she is capable but airballs and execution was the problem time.

This was more of a coaches game than a players game. The better coach ended up being Jeff Walz. I think Warlick did a great job but she got outcoached.

How many times did we come with FULL (all 5) court pressure and leave the paint open. They executed the hail mary pass with no problem.... That is an issue that the coaches should have addressed the first time it happend. This happened at least three times.... Come on guys!!! We all know we can't leave the basket open!!!!!!

Written on Lady Vols' Warlick finalist for rookie coaching award:

in response to CrankE:

I thought last year was her first as head coach?

No... She was still under Coach Summitt. She took over the media duties. Coach Summitt and Tennessee was preparing her for her first season. She was more of an Associate Head Coach last year. Summitt still made the calls with the support of Warlick and staff.

I think the reason why Demoss left was because she knew Warlick was going to get the head coaching job.

I was sceptical about Warlick. However, I have grown into a huge fan of hers. She has done what she needed to do to help this team succeed. I am glad to see that the Lady Vols Basketball team is still seeing success while all other UT teams have fallen under the guidance of Hart.

Written on Lady Vols knock off Creighton, 68-52, to reach Sweet 16:

in response to UTFAN1993:

If I was Graves, I would tell them to go to Okla. without me, if I couldn't get more than 3 shots. U.T. makes it so hard on themselves to win a game. They have another Glory J. in the lineup for 25-30 min a game and she only gets to SHOOT 3 TIMES.
Creighton only has 2 players taller than 6ft on their roster and one doesn't even start.
Good game overall. to advance and play again is the name of the game. If they had played ANYBODY other than Creighton tonight, they would not have won.

I am right there with you!!! They struggled to get the ball into her and turned it over several times. However, Williams gets in there and they give her perfect passes every time. Doesn't make any sense to me!!! Bashaara is relentless and works hard down low. She should get rewarded with passes that she is capable of catching!!!

It's like they told these girls to stay away from Bashaara because they don't want her to be freshman of the year!! It's games like this that prevent our players from getting the accolades they deserve!!

GIVE BASHAARA THE BALL AND MAKE IT A GOOD PASS!!! We have potential to have freshman of the year but when she is under utilized it makes it hard to get votes!!!

The sooners have two good players, if we can stop them the game is ours!! It's time to get back to work and find some who can defend their post player and their guard!!!

Written on The play of which Lady Vol is most important in order to make an NCAA tournament run?:

I think Bashaara is the most important key to our success. The things that Tennessee is most known for is Defense and Rebounding. Bashaara is an important peice of the pie when it comes to rebounding and put backs!!

I don't think Bashaara is getting the ball inside enough. They need to force the issue and push the ball to her. I think she is smart enough to determine whether she has a good look at the basket or not. Furthermore, I think she knows when to pass, when to lay it up and when to take the jumper. She is a high IQ player and we need to rely on her.

It is important to understand that we can't rely on the play of a single player. We have seen games where Simmons has been off and that has impacted our ability to win games. We need her to have a great NCAA tournament to make a deep run!!

Williams is an important peice to both our offence and defense. She knows how to move the ball and can make baskets.

Burdick is by far one of our best players. She can rebound, put back and hit the jumper. She is consistent on offense but needs to learn how to handle the ball better.

Taber needs to step out and take those threes. She was recruited for her three point shooting ability. She seems to hesitate and didn't do that in the A&M game. She needs to step up and be the offensive threat we need her to be!!!

Jones is the most athletic player we have. She can hop out of the gym and is capable of getting rebounds out of her area. She is one of our best on ball defenders and has great size. While she doesn't finish on contact she creates the contact and makes it to the Free Throw line.

Harrison has been that missing go to player. She understands the high low game and has shot blocking abilities!! She helps when our guards get beat and keeps the ball out of the paint! We need her to stay healthy!!

Massengale has become a scoring threat. I really like it when she distributes. That opens the floor for her going to the basket. She is great at pulling fouls and knocking the free throws down.

All of these players and our supporting cast will need to step up to make it to the Elite 8 and on....

We still TENNESSEE!! GO LADY VOLS!!!

Written on No. 2 seed Lady Vols open with Oral Roberts; Baylor is No. 1 seed:

"Brandon"? What are you, a fifteen year old? She is a human being, with feelings. She has lived with this type of ignorant, hillbilly denegration her entire life. Stop your bullying! Don't teach this behavior to your children. Oops, I'm sure you already have done so. If you haven't noticed, we've had our share of masculine ladies. Did you bully them as well? Don't think so. Cyber bullying is as impactful as face to face bullying. Stop it, redneck.

TBH, If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck! Just saying!!

Would I have this same standpoint if she played for UT? probably not....

Luckily for everyone, this is her last championship!! Baylor will be lucky to be in the top 10 next year, of course they have Sims but I doubt they will.

Tennessee will RISE!!!

Written on Cierra Burdick named SEC player of the week:

in response to jt45:

Any Idea why they dont have a full roster ? Are they holding back for next years class ?

Also just watched ND beat Uconn in 3 OTs ! I cant say I didnt enjoy watching Geno let one slip away, Uconn had 34 turnovers, wich goes to show that even the best teams can get rattled.
Diggens may be the best guard Ive seen in many many years.

Dont feel nearly so bad about the LVs 31 TOs now.

There are many reasons for not having a full roster. I think the main reason this team doesn't keep a full roster is to prevent unhappy players.

We have 11 players on this team and 2 have done nothing but sit the bench. I think had they been given the opportunity at least one of them would/could have been spectacular. Like someone else mentioned you can't have All Americans riding the bench when they can go somewhere else and get significant playing time.

Also, CPS had recruited somtimes up to 7 players in one class. This resulted in lack of available scholarships to rollover to other years. Now that they have available scholarships they will use them properly in getting the right amount of players each year.

There were several scholarships offered but those offers were declined to go to other schools. They are holding these scholarships for those ALLSTAR players!!

CIERRA IS THE REAL DEAL!!! Glad to see what she is capable of doing. If she does these kinds of things consistently we will be almost unstoppable next year. Gosh, I don't even know who I would start!!!

I am excited about the bench we will have next year. We could even run the defense like Kentucky does next year and be 10xs better than them!!! 5 out, 5 in and it doesn't change the game for us!!! We are going to be a BEAST next year! Watch out Baylor, Uconn, ND and Stanford we are getting ready to take our rightful place at the top AGAIN!!

WE ARE TENNESSEE

Written on Lady Vols rise to No. 8 in AP poll:

First off, congrats on your rise to #8!! I am proud of what these girls have done!

Second, I seem more concerned about the Texas A&M game than most. Everyone seems to think we can beat them and I am right along with you. However, my major concern is Bone. The last two years we have not been able to stop a single players. I remember Agwumeke going off for over 40 last year. This year we've struggled against stopping some good players like Diggins, Eye, and Griner. Giving them nothing but highlight reels. Stopping Bone will be key to our success!!

Keeping Bone off the block will be of importance. We will have to remain active, block out and make her move. It is important that our girls play physical with her and tire her out. She has been known to cramp on several occasions get the work on her done and we win by 15!!! If we don't work and allow her easy shots the game will be a lot different!!

Written on Mental makeover in second half allows Lady Vols to save face against Arkansas, 60-54:

So.... Not saying they will, if they do lose both games there could be a 4-way tie for the SEC regular season championship!

It's great that the SEC is finally getting some national recognition with 5 teams in the top 15. I don't think any other conference has that many in the top 15.

HOLLY WARLICK COACH OF THE YEAR!!!

BASHAARA GRAVES FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR!!!

MEIGHAN SIMMONS PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!! but you gonna have to show out in these next two games!!!

Come on ladies, show them WE STILL TENNESSEE!!!

Written on Lady Vols turn over Auburn, 83-61:

WOW!!! I was amazed by the first half defense! Simmons stepped up and played both sides of the ball tremendously well! It's nice to see her finally take some ownership on both ends of the court.

Simmons, Massengale and Williams played defense on the point like mad crazy!! I was very impressed with the first half defense.

I was a little annoyed with Spani's three point defense. You would think that Spani could play some D on 3 pt shooters but she didn't do well in that area.

Offense in the first half was clicking. It was nice seeing the ball move across the floor and finding the open shot. The ball movement was almost flawless in the first 5 minutes.

I was glad to see Nia and Phillips get some minutes. You could tell Phillips really wanted to score. She was sloppy and turned the ball over every time it went to her. She can make an impact if she slows down, sees the floor and makes the right decisions. I would like to see Nia use the backboard, that's what its there for!!! She missed some free points by not using it.

Overall I was very impressed with our starters and ball movement in the first half. The second half they did some good things but made some terrible passes. We can't do those things against the teams we have coming up.

Arkansas is a good team. If we aren't careful we could lose it. I am really concerned about the A&M game and the Kentucky game.

A&M has very solid post players and there guards are decent. Kentucky's defense is scary good. We had quite a few unforced turnovers in this game. If we don't fix that now we could have a very very very high turnover rate against Kentucky. However, I think we are overall a better team than Kentucky. The only offence Kentucky has is Mathies. We will need JJ for that game for sure!!

COME ON LADIES LETS FINISH THE SEASON 3-0 and be the regular season CHAMPS!!! PROVE THEM WRONG!!!!

Written on Cierra Burdick running, just not on all cylinders yet:

I am glad for her! However, I am stunned more of you aren't excited about the fact that Harrison is back on the floor practicing!!! I am so excited!

We really need her height and I know she isn't going to be in the same shape she was before the injury but her presence in the post should help!!!

Geno is a dirty old man!! He is in the process of being sued for sexual harrassment. This adds to the fire!! It's sad that his staff laughed about it knowing the current situation.

Written on Lady Vols may 'try to go with five or six players' after latest set of injuries :

I think we should at least put JP in. She is long and athletic and has experience that our other players do not. Of course, she has experience at the Junior level but it's more than our frosh have!

She looked really good in the last minutes of our last win! I think if we gave her the opportunity to step-up that she would impress.

The two players that really NEED to step-up are our PG and 2 guard!!!

Massengale's defense is HORRIBLE! She is slow, gets beat off the dribble AND the jump shot! She doesn't seem to put any effort in on defense. I do agree that she does a good job on the offensive end.

Simmons needs to step-up. Her defense has fallen and her offense has gotten worst. She couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the last two games!! She also drives in so fast that she commits unforced turnovers. She then tries to do to much to correct what she has done wrong. She is a very good capable player but needs to slow down.

JJ is a great player! I just can't stand those passes to the post that are over shot and always goes out of bounds. I understand what she is doing, she's putting to much power behind it.

It's hard to say that Graves needs to step up considering she is our only post. She is doing what she can against the double teams and her size doesn't help. I don't disagree that she should be getting those layups, she has a lot on her being the only post.

Taber needs to learn to take the three!! She was recruited because of her shot making abilities and always passes up the open three for a step-in jump shot that she consistently misses. She is a great player with good range. TAKE THE OPEN SHOT!! You were recruited to SHOOT THE THREE!!!

Williams has been very impressive these last few games. I hate to say it but I think we would have won that game had she not gotten injured. I don't understand why she isn't a starter. She is a very capable player and has been very impressive.

I know these ladies can rebound and I know they are capable of winning out. They need to step into their roles and play the game they know they can play!!

My honest opinion of these players. They are all capable. They just have to step up and play their role and do what they are capable of doing!!

Defense and Rebounding wins games. We sucked at both the last time out!! Come on ladies we believe in you!!

Written on Inexperience hurt Lady Vols against Baylor :

There were a number of issues in this game. My first concern was at the point position. Massengale did not control the ball or make good passes. We were getting some really good shots in the first half but wasn't hitting them. You could tell our team was out of sorts when they first stepped on the floor.

I have to say that Williams could be a difference maker for this team. Every time she has come in off the bench she has made things happen.

I like Simmons, I think sometimes she tries to be the star. She needs to slow down and take open shots instead of trying to make her own shot one on one. This is a team sport. If they move the ball around like they have, they will find their open shot!

It really hurt us with Izzy being out, not that it would have made that much difference. However, her experience from last year would have been more beneficial than playing Moore who has seen limited minutes, even in high school.

I think these ladies are something special and the year has just started. These ladies have a lot of fight left in them!!

Go LADY VOLS!!!

Yes.... She didn't want the issues that Caster Semenya had to deal with!!!

I also heard that she wasn't offered the final spot by Geno!!

Griner is a great player. There aren't any other players that can stack up against her. Margo Dydek may have been able to but she isn't around any more!!

Hopefully speed can beat size!!

Written on Jannah Tucker, Mercedes Russell, Jordan Reynolds sign with Lady Vols :

WOOOOHOOOO!!!

Can't wait to see these ladies in action!!! Looking for number 9!!!!

Written on Lady Vols' exhibition turns into a one-sided track meet, 118-44 :

My starting line-up / substitution

PG - Carter / Massengale
G - Simmons / Spani
G - Williams /Jones / Phillips
P - Harrison / Burdick
P - Graves / Moore

I would make full subs like UK did last year, every 5 minutes. I think we have the players and athleticism at each position. If we keep throwing players at teams, we will eventually tire them out!!! Once we tire them down real good, we put in our best offensive line-up and fire away!!!

I am no coach, nor am I trying to tell Coach Warlick what to do. This is my opinion!!

These ladies looked really good in the openers, now lets see what they look like in a true game, although, I don't expect much from Chattanooga. It will, however, be a good test!!

Go Lady Vols!!!

Written on Lady Vols focus on defense in exhibition opener, 104-44 :

I was most impressed with Izzy!! She went after it and made some amazing shots!!!

JJ played on both ends of the ball, it all seemed so effortless for her!!

Graves does remind you a lot of Johnson in that she missed to many layups!! However, she was tenacious on the rebound and worked her butt off!!! I expect her to be all american by the end of the season!!!

Spani seemed quicker, her defense appeared to be better! Her shot was on and she played well.

Williams played in spurts. If she can put it all together she could be the spark we need.

Simmons impressed me, her shot looked much better. Her defense was much better. Looks like this may be her breakout season.

Carter did some good things. Would have liked to see more from her offensively. Defense was good but can get better

Burdick made some good passes. She needs to work on better ball control when passing to an obviously open player.

Moore was ok... I think her issue was nerves. She missed quite a few lay ups.

I think this team is going to be better than anyone anticipated. Our foot speed looks good, we have some tenacious rebounders and people who can play multiple positions.

My concern is covering the 3. We left a few open shots.

Written on About-face: Tucker could still be a Lady Vol :

in response to cobragolfer:

SnowPea and VolsFan ... How many times did Pat beat Geno in the "BIG ONE"? Answer... NEVER!! Pat was getting tired of the beatings, so she stopped the yearly regular season matchup with UCONN. Besides, when Geno has been around for as long as Pat was, his National Championships will double her final count. With all the "stuff" going on at UT, why would anyone want to play here?

Cobra you are a scallywag!!! Move on!!!

CPS and RockyTop made womens basketball what it is. Without CPS Geno would be nothing. Geno's tactics have been questioned for a number of years. BTW... isn't he getting sued?? Lets not forget that all Universities struggle and have their own issues.

Geno may surpass CPS but it was because CPS that Geno has been successful!! Never forget that!!!

Move on to the UCONN boards and leave Tennessee be!! You aren't worth our time, move on!!!

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!

Maybe the pending lawsuits have something to do with it??

What happend to honesty and integrity??? When you committ you should stay... I just don't understand what can make a player change their mind so quickly.... Unless they have been offered to play for a UCONN (ALTHOUGH I HATE UCONN!!!!)

Written on Lady Vols picked to finish fourth in SEC :

Fourth is a bit absurd, don't you think??

I do agree that if we win the regular season and the tournament that Holly will be named coach of the year. I see a couple of players making the first team selection and us having the SEC player of the year in Jasmine Phillips!!!

Are you serious??? Students have a hard time committing when they don't know who their coach will be. Students were coming to Tennessee to learn under the GREAT Pat Summitt. It was evident this year that Coach has taken a back seat, which I understand. However, who wants to go to a place to be mentored momentarily?

They need to make their decision on the coaching staff now. We already see this impacting our ability to recruit top ranked prospects and now junior college players.

Kaela Davis has already decommitted. Now we are going after players who aren't even in the top 100.

I have and will always be a Tennessee fan. However, I never thought a team could deteriate so quickly. I am stunned and the way to fix this is to get new coaching staff in immediately!

Questions
1. Who was coaching this team when they beat the phooey out of KY and GA at home?
2. How many NC and final four appearances does this coaching staff have.
3. How many final four appearances do these seniors have?
The coaches cannot play the game. When your two best players have ZERO points in the first half against a team they beat by 31 the last time they played, it aint the coaching. And Pat's issues have nothing to do with it. These seniors were underachievers for the entire four years they have been here. When they decide to play they can be world beaters. When they decide to lay down they lose to Ball State and get embarrassed at ND.

I disagree Bud!!! Our players wanted revenge vs Kentucky!!!

Are you not watching the player substitutions? Are you not watching our defensive sets?

At one point in the game, Holly changed her mind on a defensive set and had a player come back. This was after a timeout!

I personally believe this would be a different team if (with respect) Pat Summitt would get off the bench and coach these girls. I find it odd that she continues to sit on the bench, while not providing any feedback to her coaching staff or team. It's like the AD said she could stay but you can't coach! There seems to be some type of restriction on her. I have never seen her just sit there and take a beating!! Something just isn't adding up to me. How does the best coach in the world sit on the sidelines with no facial expressions while we get the phooey beat out of us?

Written on Hog-tied: Arkansas women win in Knoxville for first time, 72-71 :

I don't understand why they continue to allow Warlick to coach. Her player substitution do not make sense to me! I would have liked to see more of Bass and Williams. We stayed in a man defense even when they were dribble driving and hitting the three of the screens.

I believe we look much better in the zone. The players tend to communicate much better than when they are in the man.

Spani should not be starting. The only thing she offers this team is her three point shooting ability. As many other have stated, she does not appear to be in playing shape, is slow on the defensive end. Her contribution was 4 turnovers and 7 points. She had no rebounds. She isn't that hustle player. I believe that Burdick should start over her and get more minutes. She is a better pass and has a better 15 ft jump shot than Spani and can guard down low better.

I thought Simmons defense has gotten much better. She doesn't pass well and makes poor decisions.

Johnson and Stricklen make this team. It's time for these other players to step up and contribut. I hate to say this but we will be lucky to make it past the first round in the NCAA.

This game was lost on layups, turnovers and lack of heart. I thought we shot well from the FT considering... A game should never come down to FT, especially when you have 9 High School All Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This coaching staff better get it together! I want Pat on the floor coaching and Holly in the damn locker room doing their laundry!!

Written on Lady Vols channeling Lauren Avant's defense :

I did not like her leaving,or asked to leave, which is a shame, and I remember commenting on it at the time she left. They sure could use her now.Sometimes these lady Vols are eased out, with nothing said.Maybe it has come back to bite them in the butt.Funny thing, she left because of injuries, and is playing somewhere else now.

She left due to prolonged injuries. Playing at the next level, specifically in DI college is different than the high school level. The workout requirements and time spent in the gym takes up a lot more time than at a DII school.

She wants to be a doctor which requires more time in the books. Most DI athletes go to college for basic studies in communication, which require less studying and so forth. She was unable to meet the workout requirements and do her school work and be healthy all at the same time.

DII schools aren't as competitive and don't require as much time in the gym. I can't believe people can say she is better than Massengale, we only got to see her play a few times. While she may have been good, her academics were more important than her basketball.

Glad to see people are still humble. I didn't expect to see LSU beat UK. I just didn't see it coming. I am very excited that we still have a chance to at least tie for the SEC regular season. It's time for these ladies to buckle down and realize the importance of this year. Summitt is just 12 wins away from 1,100 total wins. We could do it this season. We have to win out and make some progress in the NCAA tourney!

I thought the defense last night was on point. We made some mistakes but that can be cleaned up. It was nice to finally see these ladies smiling and cheering eachother on! That is Lady Vol basketball!!!

Written on Shekinna Stricklen leads Lady Vols past Georgia :

in response to bmaples:

Team looked much better -- in spurts. There were plays that made me sit up and say "Now THERE is Lady Vol basketball!" And there were plays where all I could do was mutter "what were you thinking?"

Stricklen played very solid on both ends. Glory was her usual emphatic self. Massengale showed flashes of speed and ball-handling, and it was great seeing Spani in there. Still, the unforced errors were troubling, and they still looked a little jerky on offense. Defense, though, was solid most of the game, except for not closing out a few times on the outside shooter.

I LOVED that they went to a man defense for part of the game. I thought it pushed up the Lady Vols' energy level just by playing it. Would love to see more of that.

If this team can continue to improve, can learn to work together more and more, and can play lock-down defense and rebound while putting about 10 more points a game on the board, they have a chance at making a run. Let's see how the next few games look.

Ladies, we are all pulling for you -- players, coaches, Pat, we are all pulling for you. You can do this! Make your run!

Bruce in Louisville

Also a fan in Louisville!

Stricklen looked like a different player tonight! She was much faster and was getting open. Rather than just standing around hoping to get the pass and get an open shot. It was nice to finally see her working to get open looks!

I also love the man to man! They look better in a man verses the zone. However, the zone seemed much better tonight as well! I didn't see a lot of open players. They looked much better on the defensive end!

Offensively we are still missing crucial layups. Our players really need to work on creating screens and using the back door.

I must say I was impressed with the way we played in the second half. We must get better in the paint, both offensively and defensively. Didn't get to see Glory as much as I would have liked. Seemed as though the refs were all over her! She has been stopped in the last two games. She has to learn to play smarter but be aggressive at the same time.

Great Game!! Hopefully we can continue looking the way we did in the second half. It was also nice seeing Spani hit the open 3. She is a threat that we need to in order to get open posts and threes!!!

Go Lady Vols!!!

If everything plays out for the Lady Vols , who would you rather play to get to the final 4? And why?
Baylor
Stanford
Uconn
ND
Pick your poison

Anyone but ND!!!! We played with Baylor!! Stanford blew us out but I think the way Glory is playing now, that won't happen again. Uconn is a good pass team and play really good defense. They have a great post player. I think the best team is ND right now. I would like to see us match up with them for the Championship! They will have a chip on their shoulder and I think that could hurt them in the long run.

I would rather go against Baylor. They have two players Griner and Simms. We shut them down, we win!

Stanford is a good team in the O sisters and Kokenis. Our posts would have to have the best games of their lives to win this one.

I think we have a lot of work to do before we start thinking about the final four. Right now we are Sweet Sixteen material, if that!

Written on No. 7 Tennessee women bounce back to beat Alabama:

They are going to have to get 10x's better!!! I was not happy with the performance. We should have blown this team out by a hundred points.

Fouls were the issue tonight. We have to understand the officiating better. We have to run the floor better, we have to pass better. We just have to flat out play BETTER!!!

Their tallest player was 6'1, really??? Our post should have scored 60 points alone. I didn't like the starting line-up. I love Cierra but she has to get quicker!!

I have to say, it was nice to see what we are going to have next year. I am sure Graves, Jones and Carter will make great additions. Our number one issue is communication and playing as a team. Simmons took to many shots!!!

Written on Lowest point total in school history: Notre Dame crushes Lady Vols, 72-44:

Coaching, Coaching, Coaching....

This was all coaching. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Pat Summitt!! However, Demoss, Warlick and Lockwood are not head coaches! The substitutions were the worst I have seen all year. Why did Glory sit for so long???? If we want to win Glory has to get at least 33 minutes per game!!!

The halfcourt offense wasn't there!! The defense wasn't there!! It was like there was a lid on the basket, shots going in and then popping out!

Our players had focus in the first 10 minutes and did some good things and then the wheels fell off the bus!

Why was Spani, Harrison, Brea, and Williams playing? I mean we had our second string in for much of the second half.

Stricklen didn't get enough touches. The ball should be going through Stricklen and Glory. Stricklen was obviously injured and didn't look comfortable with the ball. Simmons kept putting shot after shot up. She hit her first few so I can see why she kept shooting, but when they stop falling stop shooting!

It appears to me that Pat Summitt was told not to coach. She didn't seem like part of the team, sitting the bench. Summitt has to make the decisions and stop these other coaches from making poor decisions. It's almost like Pat Summitt is trying to make a point, that these coaches aren't capable of handling the head coaching position.

If you ask me, it's time to let Summitt coach or move on with someone else. I am sure we won't have a problem filling the position with someone of talent.

It's time to move on or prove your worth coaches!!! There is no reason we should have our subs in when we are down 15 pts!!!

I am still a Vols fan and a huge fan of Pat Summitt!!! We just need to change some things, and I think after this loss we will see something happen!!!

Written on Finding flaws with Notre Dame a tough task:

These ladies are gonna have to play with all their heart tonight!! It's gonna be a rough one!! We need to play some great onball defense against Diggins and deny the post the to Peters!! We have a lot of work ahead of us. They have great shooters and passers!!

Glory will do her work on the boards. We just need the guards to step up and outdefend!!!! Pat says... "Championships are won on defense and rebouding" We are gonna need to defend like our life is at stake here!!! Come on ladies, we all believe in you!! Get out their and work!!!

Last night I was watching the UCONN North Carolina game and the station put up a list of the games/time the NC players had missed this year. It was a lot longer than the Tenn list. It is a pity though that when we just get Kamiko back Shekinna goes down (hopefully for just a short time.) I still think we need more horses in the race.

Conn just destroyed North Carolina. They beat them by 50+ and I think they could have made it 75+ it they'd wanted to. Is North Carolina that bad or is Conn that good? Probably both! It was kind of scary to see how good UCONN was last night and think that next Monday we get the pleasure of seeing our Lady Vols play a team that beat UCONN. We'll really know after that game if we're gonna be in the really elite group again this year. I'm bettin we will. And between now and then we're gonna trash the #6 Wildcats a couple of times.

I sure hope you are right! We have a great team with great experience. Our team is comprised with mostly All Americans. One thing is for sure, our defense has to get better.

Our zone is not that great and I haven't been that impressed with our full court pressure. There were several times in both the KY game and the VU game that we left their 3pt shooters wide open. I mean they had all day to shoot the ball.

I was impressed with Simmon's defense in the second half of the VU game. Massengale was playing some great on-ball defense.

I think we have to have Glory defending their best player! She has the size and quickness we need. I think Stricklen is slow and with this injury we can only expect her to be slower.

The ND game will be a great measuring stick for where we are and where we will end up. We should have won the KY game hands down. There was one foul they missed when Baugh was tackled from behind and of course that HORRIBLE charge call.

UCONN did look like a great team last night but I don't think NC deserves to be in the top 25. They have been incosistent and have a player playing that just had a baby two months ago. That's what I call a role model!!

I have all the faith in these ladies. I think at this point the coaching staff need to get their stuff together! Pat needs to be the coach and make the calls! I think she is more than capable. Hopefully, just hopefully she will make some adjustments.

We have the players we just need the right game plan!!

I have never seen a basketball team with so many injuries. Its not just this year its every year. Its to key players. You are not going to win anything when you have injuries like that. I would suggest the Lady Vols look into it very closely. I just think there are way to many injuries.

Tell me, how do we prevent these injuries? I don't think these players go onto the court hoping to get injured or that the coaches recruit players who are injury prone.

Stricklen was hurt during a game.
Spani was hurt during a game.
Williams was hurt playing in the Summit League, during a game.
Baugh was hurt during a game.

What do you want the coaches to do? I suppose we could wrap them all in bubble wrap and hope for the best! I mean really.... It is an athletic sport that requires vertical and horizontal movement. Their are going to be injuries and lots of them.

The only thing that the coaching staff can do is make sure that they are properly warmed up and eating the right diet. What is it they need to look into very closely? It is part of the game.

Some of these comments confuse me!!! It's basketball a physical sport. Injuries happen, Williams rehabbed and returned to the court rather quickly.

We do have a player coming in next year that recently had an ACL tear. She is listed as one of the most athletic females in the sport. List at a level higher than some of the best female basketball players in the WNBA. Hopefully she will come in rehabbed and with the abilities she had before the injury.

Day to Day; look how long Taber has been out with a banged up knee. I doubt it will be only a few days. I love the Lady Vols but it sure seems as if they are making it difficult to get themselves to the Final Four with these injuries. Perhaps they need to wear knee pads??!!

Yeah, because they love getting injured! Knee pads would not prevent a knee sprain! The only thing a knee pad is going to do is cushion a fall or prevent wood burn!

Written on Lady Vols can't come back against Kentucky, 61-60 :

This was a subpar game overall. I was happy with the post play of both Johnson and Baugh. Our guard play hurt us!!! Our guards are not making shots and are having to many unforced turnovers.

I was amazed with Baugh's performance. I thought Glory did a great job securing position and blockinig out for Baugh to drive to the basket.

Our guards have to become play makers. Stricklen did not play like an AA. Her shots were not falling and her defense was lackluster. There were to many times our guards were beat off the dribble and we left to many players open.

Why didn't we have Glory guarding Mathies the whole time? She is our best defender, quick, athletic and has the shot blocking ability our guards lack.

I didn't think the refs helped the cause any. Last time I checked this was basketball, not football. There was a point in the game where a KY player tackled Baugh and there was a no call. That should have been a foul. The phantom charge call on Stricklen won the game for KY.

We were called with ticky tack fouls while they got away with riding our PG, poking her and pushing her. Yet, they called those same fouls against us.

It seemed the refs were more concerned with counting the number of players on the floor and calling it KY's way, rather than calling the game both ways. I was glad to see these ladies keep their composure. There were several times that our players were hacked under the basket and still no call. Yet we get called for the slightest touch.

I thought Massengale did a great job handeling the pressure. I am impressed with her every game. She is the missing peice.

We have a great team and there was no need for this loss. Our posts have showed they can play. Now, if we can get the guards into rythm we should be good. Defense needs a LOT of WORK!!! I was not impressed with Manning, she will not be starting the next game.

We had to many missed layups and missed free throws. Had we hit just one of those missed layups it would have been ours. Luckily we will be seeing them again. Hopefully we can tie for the regular season.

Kentucky is a great team, it's just sad we got by one player, once again!!!

Let's rebound from this and show the country what we are capable of!!!

Written on Lady Vols to avoid 'out of whack' look against Kentucky :

Let me point out that Massengale is averaging less than 2 turnovers per game. Don't forget, KY has quite a few turnovers theirselves. I am sure we will execute on their turn overs.

I have seen KY play this year and their shooting isn't that good. We have the size in the post and on the perimeter. Our post will have to execute without turning the ball over.

I am excited for one of the best SEC matches of the year!! Should be a good game!!!

GO LADY VOLS!!!

Written on Glory Johnson earns SEC Player of the Week for a second time :

Can someone explain to me why Massengale didn't get Frosh of the week? She had two games with 19 points. She didn't miss a shot in the UTC game and had 9 assists. She had a total of 5 turnovers in 3 games (I think). I was sure we would get both player of the week and Frosh of the week.

Someone Explain!!!

I am afraid that my hopes of a Final Four appearance and potential National Championship went away with Cain and Brewer. I don't think we have the post play to consistently beat Baylor, Stanford, UConn, etc. Glory is great, but she is 6-3 and too skinny to bang at the post. Yes, she is very strong, but she needs the mass to push around Griner and similar. We simply don't have the post play to put pressure on those teams that have a post and one or two shooting guards.

Harrison is only a freshman and has a great upside, but again is too light for the post play. Everyone else is shorter. Cain was apparently a legitimate 6-6 with a great body for the low post.

Are you serious? You must not have seen the Baylor game?

I thought our posts, when in the game did a great job of defending against Griner. I thought Baugh did a great job defending her in the first half. The second half was a different story. However, I think having more mobile posts is more important than having a thick body!

Baugh and Johnson both have the physical play to defend any other post player in the country (with the exceptioin of the Ogwumike sisters, which was obvious by the 42 point N scored). I think mobility and speed is something we have to be good at.

It doesn't take big thick bodies to win games. It takes smart players willing to put in the work and effort to defend a player. We haven't succeeded in defending great players. Once we are able to lock down the great players like the O sisters, Sykes, Griner and Kokenis, we will be great but not until then!!

I think our mobile post players are our strength. Our weakness is the selfish play of our guards right now. Of course, it would be different if our guards (simmons) was hitting shots.

Written on Lady Vols run over Old Dominion, 90-37:

Alicia Manning came to play. I am surprised that it took Coach P. Summitt to put her in the game. Doesn't Warlick understand the importance of playing Manning? Now, I think she has learned. Mannings defense is much better than Spani's.

Spani and Simmons need to get a lot better on the defensive end! Looks like Burdick should be our secondary PG... LOL

Great game by a great team. If we can keep up this type of play against all opponents, teams are going to be in trouble when they come to play Tennessee!! Nice bounce back from a huge loss!!

Way to go Ladie!!!

Written on Lady Vols hit the shots when they mattered, 67-61 :

I've stated in previous post, that Harrison and Bullick should not be in the game at the same time. Too much inexperience. That space of time, a 14 pt lead went to a 6. Way to go meghan. I believe in you.

I don't disagree but if you are going to call people out, make sure you know their names!! It's Burdick, not bullick!! However, they will likely be starters next year. Let's get them some playing time and prepare them for what is to come!! We won and that is all that matters. Simmons showed up when it mattered and that's all that really matters.

Burdick needs to work on her 16 ft jump shot. I know it's smooth in practice but she has to be able to hit her favorite shot in the game!!

I don't believe our posts had good games. If we can get all of our players to click at the same time we will be extremely dangerous!! Glory and Baugh should have had doubles as well!!

Oh... and I did just compare the women's game to the men's game! My conclusion, obviously women are better than men! HaHa
