Well said, Chamique. You are truly a Vol For Life. And I bet Pat would say that she learned as much from you and other Lady Vols as you learned from her.

I had a boss that use to turn these around with things like, "We'll burn that bridge when we come to it." And no, my boss was not Kiffin. Although that does sound like him, doesn't it.

Hey, RockyTop, every try decaf?!? Like your spirit, but I'm afraid you're going to hurt yourself before the season even starts.
Take a chapter out former Vol linebacker Nick Reveiz's handbook on how to handle adversity/injury, and you will be just fine.
in response to CroKev: "Plyo... what?" Maybe I should give this plyometrics stuff a try. FWIW, we should be sending this article mentioning Peyton and Eric's love for their beloved school to every recruit we can; and make sure that the envelope is addressed to the parents!

Plyometrics = Cardio Jump Training. It will kick your behind. And agree with your idea about sending the article to parents of recruits. Then, a week later, send them the video of The Year of the QB, The Conredge Holloway Story.

Obviously I was wrong. I know business is business, but Peyton is such a loyal guy (stayed for senior yr), I thought his heart would overrule his head. He must really want to play knowing he could get seriously hurt. Heaven knows he doesn't need the money.
I'm curious. Does anybody know what exactly sold Stokes on Tennessee?

FLASH * It's now been reported that Peyton had two snacks since breakfast. Although Peyton refutes that a "handful of my twins Cheerios" constitutes a real snack.
Mr. Climer, you make a valid point. It seems that in some games the Lady Vols have lost their edge. The kick in the pants, the stare from Pat - something's missing. And sometimes, I think, the players feel the pressure of wanting Pat to finish on top and they lose focus. They try too hard and force things. However, I believe it would be even worse if Pat were to step down before the end of the season. Not sure the players could handle that. I know I couldn't.
Vivian Stringer is every bit as much of a class act as Pat Summitt.

I heard that was an Adidas promotion.
With freshmen Curt and AJ anchoring our linebacker corp for the next few years, things could get real interesting again in a year or two.

Amen, brother!
Noticed in the video that Spurrier couldn't help himself mentioning the 1982 Duke game when he was head coach at Duke. Duke won that game by 1 point. What an ego!Would love to knock him down a peg on Saturday!
You got to give Dooley and staff credit for snagging Worley away from Darth Visor. Gatorade National Player of the Year, 13K+ plus passing yards in high school, including 5,300 as a senior. Think Spurrier wanted this kid?He will be starting his first college game against his home state university. Something to tell his grandkids about if he can pull out the win.
Glad to see Vandy center not taking any cr*p from Georgia player. I love Vandy like a little brother. Root for them when they are playing anyone but the Vols.
No doubt he had his hand slapped by his boss and was told to apologize. What a big baby!
What is that quote? Tough times doesn't build character, it reveals it. Matt has revealed his character to his team and coaches. If the team follows Matt's lead, it will have a much greater impact long after the win/loss record of this season is forgotten.
The first of many such awards for Pat, I'm sure.

Memphis is not Vandy's sister. They are not even Vandy's red headed stepchild!
in response to kingwoodtx_vol: Why are folks ready to hand UF's DL all star credentials? They haven't proven anything on the field. Our DL has an All SEC player in Jackson, A JUCO AA in Couch (who apparently has been a monster in practice), beef in the middle with Couch and Hood, speed on the outside with Smith and Maggitt (yes, he is listed at LB, but plays a similar position to UF's Powell). As I see it, UT's players are just as highly recruited as UF's, Florida's just seem to be a year older across the board. As to saying that our OL is suspect is only partially true. I believe that are a very good pass blocking line. They have struggled in run blocking, but I believe it will take lots of blitzes for UF to put consistent pressure on Bray. Our 5 can block their 4 pretty well on passing plays. We certainly need more effort in rushing the ball.

gainesville, no one wants you to be right more than me! I hope that I have totally underestimated our line play on both sides of the ball! Nothing would make me happier than to be proved wrong!
#6 - Defensive Line. Said it on another post, but will say it again. Best defensive line wins this game. Pressure on the QB and stopping the run. Don't like saying it, but Florida has the better defensive line (Floyd back after 2 game suspension)and our offensive line is suspect.
Don't forget that Floyd will be back this week in the defensive line for Florida after serving a two game suspension.I hate to say it, but this game may come down to has the better defensive line play. And our offensive line has been suspect the first two games.
Wow. Another surgery. We may never see Peyton on the football field again. And if we don't, boy do we have someone to tell our grandchildren about - both on and off the field!
One of my favorite John Ward calls of all time when Bernard was a freshman during his first game. Bernard had like 35 points in that game and with a few minutes left, Ward says, "King from 18 feet....ladies and gentlemen, GET YOUR TICKETS!
I don't care what business you're in, Dane would be a good addition to anyone's staff.
The poor guy already sounds like he lost. I guess he just can't escape the inevitable.Go Lady Vols!

Good luck to Meyer and live a long and healthy life. You should be admired for whatever reason you are stepping down. I don't like Florida because they kick our but,but I sure don't hate any person anywhere. Not even Backtoz1.

Now that's funny. But you forgot to mention Hopson's throwback to the 80's Vanilla Ice haircut to go along with Swiperboy's frowhawk. And the ESPN boy's are right for a change...BP does get the most out of what he has on the floor and his players play hard for him.
Just curious.... What's up with Scotty and the Vanilla Ice throwback to the 80's haircut?!?!As long as he keeps making the shots, he can have a Don King haircut for all I care.

Is that you, VandyGrad?
Obviously well deserved and much overdue. Wonderful location/venue for a statue of the General. Glad the players will see the statue during Vol Walk - hope it gives them a sense of the Tennessee Tradition.
I am very happy for Tyler and our football team. However, the caliber of the teams that Tyler has faced and will face are not the same as what Simms faced with Oregon, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Bama, and South Carolina. I'm glad he's getting his feet wet and building his confidence, but I believe Simms could have done just as well against our last two opponents. Please, let's not christen Tyler the next Peyton Manning - yet. That puts too much pressure on him and unrealistic fan expectations. However, I am certainly open to revisiting the second coming of Peyton about this time next year if warranted.
First paragraph in article references luck. You remember the definition of luck, don't you? It's when preparation meets opportunity. The players were focused and prepared - and it showed - especially on the tipped pass TD.

Meant 'gnat', not 'knat'.

I spewed diet coke all over my screen when I read that Skylar McBee line. Thanks, Brian, I needed that!
Gotta take Tennessee and the points. IMO the team with the fewest turnovers wins this one. It's going to be close.
So you go to your coach and explain the extenuating circumstances and respectfully request to be released. Especially after the coach has given you multiple opportunities to do just that.
What, did Coach O bite his foot while it was in his mouth, broke a bone (with those jaws and underbite, I don't doubt it) and it got infected?
in response to BamaVol: I have heard that LSU had 12 guys on the field when the ball was snap vs 13 for Tn, I was at work and couldn't see the game. Anything to this?

Unfortunately not. I was DVRing the game live and watched the replay of the final few plays a number of times. I counted their guys as well as ours on that crucial play and LSU had 11.

Good point. But after losing four in a row, I'm wondering if the wind is out of the sails for GA. And coming in an 11 point underdog should motivate the Vols even more. We seem to play better as underdogs.
After the LSU game, I think the Tennessee players are ready to run through a brick wall. They want that taste out of their mouths so bad they can't stand it. Expecting some big Tennessee plays this week on both sides of the ball.
in response to VandyGrad: (This comment was removed by the site staff.)
in response to VandyGrad:
VandyGrad, maybe, just maybe if you can get by mighty Eastern Michigan this week, Vaaaanderbilt will no longer be last in the SEC in Total Offense and Total Defense. But I doubt it.
What continues to be really funny, VandyGrad, is that Vaaaanderbilt, as always, is ranked dead last in the SEC in Total Offense and Total Defense.
Do not understand why GA is favored by 11. Admit we are down, but GA appears to be in even worse shape. Believe Vols will be highly motivated following LSU loss. Expect good, close game. Unlike last week, team with fewest turnovers wins.
There is no better ambassador of The University of Tennessee than Peyton. He gives back his time, his talent, and his resources to the university. A good man whom we are fortunate to call a fellow alum.
