Written on Mark Wiedmer: Dooley making Hart's decision much easier:

in response to westknoxrepub:

What exactly do you see that makes you think Dooley's going to fix things? Three consecutive years starting 0-5 in the SEC. Hasn't won an SEC game in October or November. Has only won 1 total game in October in three years. Again, 11th in recruiting in the SEC right now, 11th. Why would players want to come here to play for a coach who can't win. Hugh Freeze has more signature wins in the SEC than Dooley does, so does James Franklin, so does Kevin Sumlin. Did Texas A&M firing Mike Sherman set them back? Did Ole Miss firing Houston Nutt set them back? If you can produce any evidence Dooley is going to lead us to the top of the SEC, please tell me what it is because I don't see it.

Saying CDD will or won't do whatever was not the point of my post. Just find it hard to believe you're making such a big deal over "11th in recruiting in the SEC right now." So what? BFD. What matters is signing day (to the extent any of this really matters at all). Bunch of people had their panties in a wad last year because at some point Vandy was ahead of us. They finished 12 spots behind us on Rivals (would have been a bigger difference were it not for BJ Peters' and Santos' last minute defections) If you must complain, there's plenty to complain about with our defense. Complaining about 11th in the SEC "right now" is just a stupid, piling on, red herring argument. Right behind it is "why would players want to come here blah blah blah." (Maybe if you wail and moan and cry it will sound more compelling? Just a thought.) CDD's worst class was 17. (I know, I know - anything other than 1 is just not acceptable. He's a total loser.) CP came. I would wager because he could see an offense that was pathetic two years ago was clearly on the rise. Some people see a glass half full and being filled, some seeing half empty and being drained. Some will see a powerful offense coming back next year and a defense that needs one or two playmakers stopping a handful of big plays a game and all of a sudden the Vols are in contention. See what you want to see, just stop trying to make a bullsh!t argument.

Written on Mark Wiedmer: Dooley making Hart's decision much easier:

Hard to say who is the bigger idiot - Weidmer or StoneJackBaller. The defense is obviously horrific. But aside from the 4th quarter of Florida game and Bama, other teams are not just "kicking us around like cans." Richt, Spurrier, Mullins - I guarantee you those guys feel fortunate to have come away with a win, and they were fortunate. With even a respectable defense (primarily secondary), we are 7-1 or 6-2 at worst. ZERO improvement? How stupid do you have to be? Offensive line (now widely recognized as one of the best in the country)? Rushing game? Total offense? Special teams coverage? But then maybe it's WestKnoxRepub - 11th in the SEC in recruiting this year. Like recruiting rankings in October mean anything? Bama kills everyone in recruiting and is the outlier - there's been nothing wrong with CDD's recruiting. Maybe it's the vast majority of posters on this board, Volnation, TOS, etc. - geez, do people ever grow up? Nothing better to do in life than agonize over a f'ng game and what happens with a bunch of 20 year olds? Or maybe it's me because I actually spend time reading this horsesh!t. Keep Dooley, fire Dooley, please oh please dear God let it be Gruden, or X or Y. Just can't stand it if "we" don't get this fixed. My sanity, my enjoyment, my LIFE depends on it. Must personalize it. Must demonize CDD - he hasn't won, so he must suck, must be a jerk, must become persona non grata for all eternity. What a bunch of dimwitted, pathetic, whiny vajayjays.

It is baffling trying to understand what you, he and like-minded "vol fans" are actually hoping to achieve. You won't change a thing by the endless negativity on a message board. If this is just intended to be a very long paper trail so you can say "told you so" for months on end, truly you are one of the most obnoxious people on the planet.

Most baffling is how you guys somehow think, what, you're protecting the honor of CPF or something? I for one find it impossible to believe CPF would support what you're doing.

Written on John Adams: Vols have pieces get to back in national conversation :

in response to VolzsFan:

Okay, Tennessee has 2 National Titles in well over 100 years. One in the modern times. One in a day when it was segregated and Tenn played no team in the top 25 final poll until the bowl. They lost.

When did winning a National Title be the goal or the measuring stick. LSU has 3, Florida has 3. Georgia 1 and Auburn I think 2. Bama has 9 and ND has 8. When did it become a failure to not win the National Title? About 50 years between each is about the real expectation. Anyone that thinks Tenn is a contender ever for a National Title is kidding themselves.

Tenn was a top 10 program. Than the Hall of Famer came and it became a top 5 program. Going forward, it will be lucky to ever be a top 25 program constantly again. The old days of segregation we could compete. Than Phil could go to other states and get players State U wanted. Now, we beat out UAB and Central Florida. Get in where you fit in. Enjoy the tailgates because this is the change many of you wanted.

childish. you'll count Bama's absurd retroactive titles to support your agenda and discount Tennessee's. not a vol fan, just a jerk.

Dude, do you think anybody cared about UT when we were going through 3 coaching changes?? These losers at PSU were hiding rape/molestation cases, losing recruits is the least of worries..You reap what you sow and no empathy from this Vol fan..GBO!!

This isn't a flaming response and I'm not interested in picking a discussion board fight with a fellow Vol fan. Of course nobody cared when we were going through 3 coaching changes, and I don't blame them under our circumstances. But as you point out, we didn't go through them because a prior coach had been raping kids for 15 years or whatever it was; the turmoil in our community is absolutely nothing compared to PSU, and I'm willing to bet there's a great number of really good people up there that have supported the program and are horrified by what happened. Can't really put it into words, but getting excited about pulling their commits in these circumstances feels like hitting on a widow at her husband's funeral or being excited about taking and selling jewelry off a hit-and-run victim because "they won't need it anymore." The whole thing is really sad and the tragedy for these kids seems like an afterthought. You got kids? I can't help imagining how I would feel if this happened to mine, and in the aftermath other folks seeing nothing but an opportunity to snag a recruit... Just can't get fired about this.

false. they don't have a crystal ball and DCs do everything they can to make the "right" play not work. qb HAS to be able to audible and frequently leaves the huddle with multiple plays that will be selected at the los based on defensive set. not to say some combination of bad play calling and bad audibling hasn't plagued us the past couple years, but you're grossly over-simplifying.

I don't know if CDD is the man or not, but his recruiting has been excellent, especially in light of the chaos, and if 8-4 is the gold standard, he deserves at least the same 5 years Majors got to reach it.

lol - what a pile. You really are incapable of coherent thought aren't you? Now anyone who doesn't tear down Coach Dooley is a disciple, a Dooleyphile, and is out to get any person who had anything to do with success at UT. HA HA HA HA HA HA! It takes an unobjective, dimwitted rear orifice to have had appreciably higher expectations for the past 3 years than what was achieved, and complete intellectual dishonestly to claim CDD hasn't dramatically improved the player personnel situation. Of course the jury is still out and I'm sure the most supportive CDD fans have expectations on the field they want to see starting to be met this coming season - but fans with an IQ over 2 want him to succeed. Debby Jennings may be a fine person (don't know, don't care), but asserting she helped the Lady Vols win championships is just stupid. Clear is your intellectual equivalent. Good riddance. Now if you would just go away. I know, I know - Doolaid, blah blah blah. Any recruit coming to the school is making the decision with a positive view of CDD. Give some proof to the contrary. Or do you really expect people to believe our recruits are saying "I think CDD's a joke, but I love my position coach."? Your counter may be we have no top recruits? That's just silly. Even leaving out those you'll claim were really Kiffin recruits, you really going to make the argument that AJ and Maggitt weren't top recruits? Tiny? Cam?

Written on No opinion, but multi-year scholarships don't add up to Derek Dooley :

Couldn't disagree with you more, DEMDHC. I have no problem whatsoever with CDD being the final arbiter with whatever criteria he chooses. Kids are given a scholarship TO PLAY FOOTBALL, with an expectation of effort and performance. The fact that they get a tremendous benefit (a largely free college education) is not a right, it IS the quid pro quo. A football scholarship isn't their only path to a successful life and the univerity/coach shouldn't be obligated with no in-turn obligation on the players part. We expect the coaches to win (no matter what) - they have to make the right choices on a million things, so I have no problem whatsoever with them making this choice. It is revealing (and insulting, as Saban said) that people like you always come at this from the negative side - the coach is arbitrary and evil and doesn't have the best interests of the kid at heart - which is total BS.

You give kids a guaranteed 4 year scholarship no matter what, they meet an Al Wilson over the middle and decide the game is to tough for them at that level, back it off a notch, never really competitive again - so you expect the hands of the coach to be tied and that scholarship is just sunk for 4 years? 5 star (Chris Donald) never contributes - guaranteed 4 years? I suppose that is the "fair" thing to do? Good grief.

(Slive, btw, seems to be on an SEC deathwish. Reducing number of recruits relative to other conferences and requiring 4 year scholarships is a guaranteed way to reduce the competitiveness of the SEC versus other conferences.)

Never ceases to amaze me how reflexively vicious so many of you are toward CDD. I can only hope you all wind up in similarly difficult circumstances.
