Written on Tennessee finishes 4th in SEC All-Sports Trophy ranking:

in response to ProfessionalHandicapper:

Look at the Big Three Mens Sports (basketball, football and baseball). UT has been horrible for the last few years. In the last 4 years Vandy finsihed 4th in the World Series, won the Mens SEC basketball Tourney, gone to two Bowls and just broke the all time SEC single season win total in baseball while ranked number 2 in the Nation.
In those same 4 years UT has won no Bowls, missed the SEC baseball Tourney every year, and been nothing but a second rate NIT team. Vandy had a number 4 ranked finish in the Nation while the last time UT finished in the Top 5 in those mens sports was 1998 under Fulmer. Vandy also just put three players in the Top 32 picks of the NBA, something UT has never done. In the Big Three mens sports Vandy has crushed UT in total wins for three straight years and finished second only to Florida two years ago. I know UT fans will talk about the old days while forgetting they fired away the old winners and now are the bottom of the SEC. There is new top dog in the state and its Vandy. We will see ya in the World Series in a few weeks.. GO DORES!!

I believe you missed the portion of the list were vu was ranked 10th...

And no, I didn't bother reading your rant.

The only thing that your comments achieve are to show how small and conceited you really are.

Written on Fund established to help Michael Cofer with medical bills:

in response to 67classut:

It is admirable that we pay donations to help those who are ill although realistic, some costs for treatment and cure are hugely expensive.

Instead, why don't we all agree to pool our resources into a common fund. Everyone contributes, everyone receives care, premiums are adjusted for affordability. And with a uniform system, we can finally get a grip on the massive fraud and greed in the system. Has anyone noticed reading articles about the huge differences at hospitals for the same treatment? But pardon the politics, but the means toward that answer is the "Affordable Health Care Act", known derisively as Obamacare.

Thx soapbox.
Before I read that, I thought obamacare was massive unfunded government mandate which sapped our personal freedom to choose our own destiny, and instead introduced additional levels of government bureaucracy between myself, & my chosen healthcare provider.
Thanks for clearing that up....

in response to SevenT:

The last time I was in needless stadium was two seasons ago for the Kentucky game. I happened to have some connections so I scored very good seats right in the middle of the Vol people. I of course was wearing Blue. One of the Vol fans kept asking me:

"How did you get these tickets"

"You are not supposed to sit in this section"

"Did you buy them from a scalper"

etc. etc.

I finally got tired of her big nosed questions so I turned to her and her husband and said.

You know if the stupid Vol people were not completely ignorant about football and fired Fulmer this stadium would not be half filled with people in Wildcat Blue and the other 1/3 of the stadium would not be empty.

The moral of the story is of course the Vol fans are completely delusional. They like to think they can be Alabama, LSU or Tx A & M if they build enough seats. Unfortunately they stink so nobody will fork out the Cash to go to the games.

While I can agree with most of your comments you would be wrong about Union University.Their academics outstanding and average ACT scores on freshmen entering is tops. They recently were named the 2nd best university in the south. Not to shabby. In other words not just anyone can get in.Yes they are a very good school.A diploma from Union will open doors ahead of others.

I'm not trying to hate on Union, but I've lived in Tennessee my whole life. I have no idea where Union University is physically located. I know of one graduate from the school. IMO, Union University is not a school that would open more doors than UTK.
I don't mean to disparage Union, but I stand by my original comments.

By just glancing at Forbes formula, there are obvious flaws. Namely the cost they assign to attending the University, which I then believe they weigh against the average projected earnings. The costs versus the projections are out of whack. You can take their opinion for the gospel all you want, but if you think attending Union University is setting yourself up for a better stage for success in life, I have some beach front property in Oklahoma I'd like to sell you.
The problem with a person such as yourself, is you have already decided your opinion before obtaining information from each side of the equation. For instance, did you take into consideration the current students attending the University of Tennessee are the most academically qualified in the history of the institution? Did you know when the average ACT test score for a new UT student began to correlate with that of a new student at Sewanee, then The University of the South began declining ACT scores? Interesting they rank so highly on Forbes flawed list.
Finally, if you would like a true barometer of where the University of Tennessee stands, please see a highly accepted metric as performed by U.S. News. Certainly there is work to be done, but the University is improving. Like it or not.

Push 'PLAY' and not 'REWIND'. Don't settle for the past. Franklin doesn't even have a winning record against Dooley, the worst coach in the history of Tennessee. Anchor down, 122 picks in the Draft in, 0 Commodores. We have William & Mary, Cornell, James Madison, and Div 2 Valdosta State. Maybe Vandy should join the South Atlantic Conference and schedule even more of their schools. You might get 10 wins in a season for the first time in history and get someone drafted, I said "might".

And yet between Auburn and UT, which school has been on probation most recently?

Absurd.
Auburn players were committing armed robbery.
Let that sink in.

Auburn is in alabama, which aside from Illinois is always in the running for the most corrupt state in the Union.
Just b/c it can't be proven, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Amazing how things fell apart so quickly, isn't it?
Probably b/c after Cam got paid, and everyone else did whatever they wanted, there was no accountability.
The fact auburn found no evidence of wrongdoing is as hypocritical as the "auburn creed."

Written on Vols' receiver issues limiting quarterbacks:

in response to Mansonlamps:

I just hope we're all ready for a 6-6 season at best. I don't see how anybody can expect anything more given the rotten state our program has been in for the past decade. It would be nice to get back to a bowl game and then keep up the momentum in recruiting to put us back winning consistently.

If someone offered me a guaranteed 6-6 season, with a win in Ktown over VU, I would take it without a second thought.
6-6 would allow us the opportunity to play a (hopefully) fairly weak opponent in the bowl game. If we finish 7-6 this year, that is progress.

On a different note, does it not speak volumes to anyone else that Worley has zero separation in the QB battle? I am hopeful Peterman wins the job for two reasons.
1.) Haven't ever seen anything from Worley that tells me he is an SEC QB.
2.) If we have 3rd and 4, at least Peterman has a chance to use his legs for the first down.

Written on Tennessee's Jones embraces unfamiliar challenge:

in response to johnlg00:

My take on this is that he is a writer for the AP, so his pieces are intended for wide distribution to outlets which may not cover the Vols on a regular basis. Many AP articles, including news articles, include much back-fill information that may not be necessary to people who have followed a particular story longer and in more detail.

I agree with your assessment.
Living in Nashville, most of the stories run by The Tennessean are full of regurgitated information that is written by our AP writer, Steven. If something goes wrong in Ktown, I then usually have to hear abou it two to three days later from VU, bama, fill in the blank, fans whom think they are on the cusp of Volunteer information.

Written on Tennessee's Jones embraces unfamiliar challenge:

I look forward to the day the AP assigns Steve Megargee a new beat.
Not that any AP writer is going to be able to provide legitimate insight, but this guy never reports anything that is not dated by three or four days. With the addition of his glass-half-empty writing style, I already look forward the author's exit.
