Just an observation, DC, but the best player in the nation could, in fact, reside on a 4-7 team. However, as good a Eric is I don't think he's the number one player nationwide, at least not yet. I do think he's as good at his position as last year's Heisman winner was at his, wouldn't you agree? Both are among the best at their position and both can turn in game-changing plays.

It amazes me how you folks can turn on someone so quickly, especially those who have given so much of themselves to a program. Arian Foster can leave UT with his head held high, because week in, week out, he strapped his helmet on and competed to the best of his ability. He has done nothing on or off of the field except exemplify what it is to be a Volunteer football team member. He has made a few mistakes, some at critical times, but much more often has performed well. The UCLA game this year was especially tough, it's hard to underestimate how much wind that particular loss took out of UT's sails, perhaps influencing their approach to the remainder of the season. As to the Auburn fiasco, I still say that was entirely on the QB, who looked like he couldn't decide between a handoff and a pitch and so combined the two, with predictable results.

I also still say that the flip-flopping line scheme was a gross mistake which confused assignments and took away the aggressiveness which our linemen have displayed in the past. That is more responsible than any individual play or player for the direction this season has taken. I wish that Fulmer had overruled Clawson on that one aspect, perhaps both would still be at UT after this season.

Anyway, thanks, Arian, for being a Volunteer, for honoring your commitment to a four-year scholarship, and for representing UT in the manner which you have, and best of luck to you in the NFL or business world, whichever works out best for you.

Best, most succinct post I've seen here.

I agree fully, Phil's a great guy, but he's not the coach we need.

If this doesn't get turned around soon, we'll be forever before top-notch (i.e., Eric Berry) recruits will be interested in coming to Knoxville.

It's time. . .

On Higgins: Fulmer needs a fresh start, and so does UT

We've got major problems, but one of the most troubling is that we as fans, especially a lot of the regular posters here, have hung our hopes largely on players who haven't been effective to date. Add to that the HUGE hype for the athletic but thugish Gerald Williams (his right hook should have gotten him thrown out of the game, should still result in some internal penalty, and is an embarassment to anyone who believes in sportsmanship)who has produced almost nothing, it's not inconceivable we could lose all but one of our remaining games. Some of it is the players, a lot is the coaching. Stephens is a bright spot, and there are others, but the G-gun has been so misused and is so predictable, you have to wonder about the efficacy of this offensive approach.

I hope that the players don't get disheartened, I believe there are a lot of them working as hard as they can to turn it around. This is their life, their reputation, and their future at stake, I don't think they are slacking, I think the coaches aren't doing their job in getting them in the right places.

One more thing and I'm done, why, oh why, can we not come up with some form of press coverage, I thought our D-backs were among the best in the conference if not the nation. What's up with that???

Obviously . . .

Shanahan throws that word in like Coach Fulmer uses "certainly".

Don't forget that OJ has appeals available, if his attorneys can find cause to do so. But man, it is good knowing that he is finally, likely, no longer a free murd..., er, man!

Good luck, Josh. Hope you have a nice career and a good life. Sounds like you made a good choice for yourself, and that is what you should do.

Coach Fulmer, anyone on the horizon? We may need a good quarterback in a year or two.

GO VOLS, I'll hang up and . . . you know the rest.
