Sorry, I know this is off topic. Take a peek above in the "From Around the Web" links and see the Rant Sports link to the article,

'Expect These College Football Programs to Be on the Decline in 2013'

THAT ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN ... GET THIS ... ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO DAYS AGO!!!

TO THE EDITORS

Not only old news, 162 day old ancient news, dead news, not even news anymore, irrelevant and, much by now, incorrect information, and has nothing to do with current news for all the teams listed.

Once again, you the KNS editors and staff lay your incompetence out in public for everyone to see. With such blatant disregard for current news, and taking the easy way out by putting up 'some sort of football news in the off season', it is no wonder the Knoxville News Sentinel is held in such low regard by so many.

That kind of 'non-news' is just one of the reasons why I cancelled my print delivery years ago. I won't pay good money for a print paper useful just for its coupons, to light the fireplace, or wrap up the garbage.

Putting out 162 day old not-news-anymore will result in the eventual demise of the Knoxville News Sentinel, sooner rather than later, as well it should.

You fool, "exclude" is not a logic gate or operator...Nor is a half/full-adder exclusively a gate (a sequence of gates). Need I continue? Thanks for proving my point! BTW, digital logic is not my area of focus, however, I've had enough of it to make your head spin faster than speed c. But do tell us how your computer runs off protons.... Apparently you're the one dreaming and fantasizing of getting over on someone who is a mile ahead of you... But do google away, jack@$$!

Sorry I didn’t get back sooner and I apologize to others since this is not ‘on topic’. I don’t live on this site as some do, I have a life. But I had to push 1Percenter’s button again. And yes, I’m mechanical, not electrical.

As far as his 'challenge' he's been told over and over again how he is. And he's been told how wrong he is about most things. And he's been told how much the hate he spews is unacceptable. He's been told the 'truth squad' takes the wrong and unsportsmanlike approach. Yes, he's been told and told, over and over; but he nor they will listen.

Now, not goin’ to Google, but takin' my handy-dandy 2nd Edition of 'Circuits Devices and Systems' by Ralf J. Smith, professor of Electrical Engineering, Stanford University off my shelf, and turning to Chapter 13 “Digital Devices and Logic Circuits’ pg 421, I see that after an introduction to: Switching Logic, Electronic Switching, the ‘and’, ‘or’, ‘not’, ‘nor’ and ‘nand’ GATES, and Boolean operators, … we get to Logic Circuit Synthesis. In which the 'half-adder' discussion is probably the first synthesized logic device engineering students are exposed to in any text; directly followed by the ‘full-adder’. Next up? You ask. The 'exclusive-or' GATE, which has it's own symbol, a circle with a plus sign in it. You can parse all that anyway you want.

Others will note I used an ‘exclusive-or’ GATE in my description of 1Percenter, and did not use ‘exclude’ by itself. Nor did I use a ‘half/full-adder’ but a ‘half-adder’. Which all means 1placenta don’t ‘see’ whut he’s readin’. I woodn’t hire him to do power distributin’ to an outhouse. An, neither do I care ‘bout the ‘lectrical propriety of it at all, ah jus took wat ah thot mite be mos’ descibin’ of his own self, ... that bein’ Fried Circuitry; and cast my line out knowin’ I’d get a bite. I did. He bit. He always does, an’ always will. Why, because IPercenter, it’s jus’ yer nature to try to show folks up with thuh grandness of yer own mind, which is ONLY in yer own mind. I know, … you cain’t help it. Also, mah ‘puter don’t run offa no protons, it runs offa thuh ether … net, an mah haid spins fast ‘nuff to cause the (matter in yer haid)(speed c squared)=fried.

Written on Mike Strange: Bray became the NFL draft's real "Mr. Irrelevant":

in response to FWBVol:

If Cutcliffe had coached Bray, maybe Bray would have been a first round pick or maybe Bray would have warmed the bench because he couldn't get his act together. Cutcliffe wouldn't have put up with the beer bottle throwing last summer and he wouldn't have put up with the jet ski incident. The truth is we will never know how Bray would have responded to Cutcliffe's coaching.

I did see the segment of Bray with Jon Gruden on ESPN and Bray's football IQ looked to be somewhere in the idiot category.

And please, don't say I'm one of those Bray bashers, because I haven't been. I'm just stating my observations based on the segment on ESPN.

Don't know if Cutt could have done any better with Tyler. It's all about coachability and we don't know how coachable Tyler was.

As far as the bottle throwing, he was aiming at a dumpster and missed. Did he even know he hit the car? If so he should have put a note on it. If not, he did the right thing anyway .. apologized and paid for the repairs. I grew up a river rat with boats all my life and I didn't know about the distance behind a power boat before you can jump the wake with a jet ski until Bray messed up. Here's a kid from California on a lake outing with friends doing what a whole lot of folks do but he's the one to get caught. Kinda like going 65 or 70 mph out by Farragut on your way into Knoxville, a few get caught but most don't. There are those who know better than to jump wakes close to the boat, but I bet he didn't even know he was doing anything wrong. My question, who was the adult owner of the jet ski who let him get on it without the TWRA training? That one knew better. Were Bray's 'antics' any worse the Manning mooning the lady on the football staff? How did Cutt handle that?

I posted Bray's combine Wonderlic score along with several others above. He's average for QB's there. Bray's problem on the Gruden interview seems to me he felt under attack and got flustered, partly because he didn't know the answers. And there lies his problem. But that's not something that can't be fixed with good coaching by Reid. He's got everything else that can't be coached. Height, cannon for an arm and tough enough when he was 20 lbs lighter to get knocked on his can and get back up. It's all up to Tyler Bray, will he be coachable?

Written on Which UT player drafted will make the most impact his rookie season?:

The question was "impact". While I like all of them, I believe CP's impact will be on returns. Once he's got the ball and is moving, (or not) making tacklers miss, he's like no other returner I've seen recently. Who in the NFL compares to CP on returns? Can he do the same as he did as a Vol in the NFL? Can't wait to see.

3. Landry Jones, Oklahoma 28

5. Mike Glennon, N.C. State 26

6. Tyler Bray, Tennessee 24

6. Geno Smith, West Virginia 24

6. Zac Dysert, Miami (Ohio) 24

9. Matt Scott, Arizona 22

10. Tyler Wilson, Arkansas 20

Read where Nassib was passed over in the draft by Doug Marrone, his college coach (who is now the new Bills coach as of January), for Seminole QB EJ Manuel. Football IQ obviously isn't all they look for, or Nassib would have been early 1st rounder. There has to be the mix. What Tyler has can't be coached. What he dosen't have certainly can be coached, if he is coachable. Good luck Tyler, and like I said before, Work Smart!

Written on Mike Strange: Bray became the NFL draft's real "Mr. Irrelevant":

in response to NowHearThis:

Compared to what you will see this upcoming season Bray would definitely be considered a laser arm.

According to this article Tyler threw 59 mph at the combine.

http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2...

And, according to Sports Science, the average throwing speed of an NFL QB is between 50 and 60 mph. In this article Drew Brees was measured at 52 mph over 12 tries at 20 yards hitting a bulls eye each time. Peyton Manning? The same at 59 mph.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/397...

So, with Tyler hitting 59mph against the NFL average of 50 to 60 mph and Brees averaging 52 mph … yeah, I’d say Tyler has a laser arm. And always has.

Which IMHO is part of his problem. Tyler’s another one of those prima donnas coming out of high school who were so much above their peers in natural ability they don’t study the game; depending only on their physical attributes. They won’t study the playbook (CP and his continually running wrong routes) or spend time watching film and asking questions to improve their football IQ. It’s his attitude. He was already a star in his own mind when he got here. Just google the tat on his back for proof of that. The Gruden QB camp video shows his abilites, attitude, and shortcomings here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJlFGS...

He might consider finding someone to remove that tat before he shows up at Chief’s facilities and gets hooted out of the locker room.

I always hoped Tyler would mature into a responsible young man, none of his antics were much worse than Manning’s mooning episode; he’s young for going NFL, and with Andy Reid as his mentor, he just might. Good luck Tyler, don’t just work hard … work smart.

Moore, Randolph and McNeil for safety. Can this unit Git er Done? How will backups show? Lane is gone so now Neal is our ONLY experienced RB. Who wil get the second spot behind Rajon to give him breathers? Can Alden Hill shoulder that responsibility? What about Dervin Young? Ahh...so many questions! Will ANY early enrollees step up? Who will the receivers perform? How will the Tight Ends play into CBJ's Power Spread offense. Has the D learned the new 4-3, or will they be just as lost in the woods as last year? Frankly I believe we'll all be pleasantly suprised.

Written on Which unit will be stronger on UT's football team next season?:

I said offense based on the experienced line and returning RB's. QB and receivers are a great big ? since the Sat scrimmage but as has been said elsewhere offense usually lags behind the D in spring. Even with the 'good showing' for the D in scrimmage I can't place hope because of their lackadaisical play last year. They have to prove themselves AS A TEAM on game days for me to believe they are going to attack the ball and tackle like they've been coached since Pop Warner Midget League. No more trying to get the BOOM highlite reel by attempting to run through RBs and receivers. Wrap up and TACKLE! And do it with 'A Host of Volunteers'.

For whatever reason, coaching, wanting to make the BOOM! weekly highlight reels, being uncoachable prima donnas, or just unable to mentally grasp the scheme (you can't coach stupid) only a few on the D last year produced. It HAS to be different this year, and everyone HAS to shoulder their responsibility to learn the playbook, focus on the fundamentals, play as a team, and attack the ball. With respect to your last sentence, I especially hope he plays to WIN the game when it is within reach (Missouri anyone?)

In all fairness to CDD, he had coached all season with a cracked hip bone, then got right back out there after surgery. During the 4th qtr hosting Mizzou, the Vols offense was not executing at all well, the previous two plays had a pass slapped down and a broken play, it was 3rd and long. If Mizzou advanced a fumble to within field goal range, or ...say it ain't so ... a pick6 against the Vols poorly executing and obviously flustered offense-and that is huge when a team starts getting flustered e.g snakebit (ain't those great words?) would have lost the game. Dooley wanted to use the time before OT to regroup, and he thought they could win it. Had they won, this would be a moot point.

Conversely, you want to believe that there was the opportunity for the playmakers to come up with the big one in those 35 seconds. There was plenty of time to get the ball close enough for a field goal to win it. But ........... we weren't none too happy with our choice of kickers now were we? So, it'd have to be try to score, an if not, then kick. Fumbles and pick6 be dashed, trust the offense to execute and the defense to stop them ....duh ....whad I jus say!!!? Trust the D!!!??? Well, that's what I would have done anyway, play to win during regular time and put the game on the shoulders of the players. CDD didn't and that is the point I decided we needed a new coach. Although I do understand CDD's reasoning. Unluckiest coach I've ever heard of. That snakebit team never got unflustercated.

Written on Could Tyler Bray be the steal of the 2013 NFL draft?:

Tyler has the arm and the size.
He didn't display consistency.
He did display emotional immaturity.

I'd like to see a statistics guru sort out all the players in the past 10 or 15 years who: 1) left early for the NFL 2) were considered to have the raw talent ...BUT... 3) were short on leadership and personal maturity.

I'd say the odds are against him, but we can always hope he turns it around. I did think he got short shrift with the defense giving up the ghost this year. Will he succeed? He'll have to humble himself and become a team leader and team player. That might be hard for a kid who has his own 4* name tatooed across his back.

in response to overthetop:

If you watched the game carefully you'll see Mercer over and over again going through the ritual of what's known as "running plays". The ritual or practice commonly leads to "scoring points". Tennessee's offensive scheme was to run around in circles and eventually chuck up a 3 ball or crash the lane and hope to be fouled. I've never seen a team get back doored so many times in one game on defense. Martin and his wanna be staff got completly schooled by Mercer's staff. Pathetic, sad display. If nothing else, Martin should donate part of his salary to enroll himself and his staff in basketball coaching 101, maybe even this summer at Mercer.

I'm not so negative as you, but I do agree about "running plays" and "scoring points". It got so bad I got up and went out to concessions twice. Where was an effective defensive scheme? Where was an effective offensive scheme? Why didn't Skylar just stand on the sideline on offense cause no one was gonna throw him the ball so it became an easily defended four man team? Why didn't CCM get anything fixed during timeouts? And where was the fire in the coaches belly to win? Where were fans who cared? Why was TBS virtually empty, even with the curtains?

It's a wonder kids learn anything from adults this day and age. Reading some of the negative post on here may be part of it. Remember you're not these kids parents. They come to Tennessee thinking that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and then the pressures to perform are thrown at them. Some of you act as if you never made mistakes in your lives. I'm by no means defending DaRick or any of them that can't control themselves, but to belittle them and think they can't change their lives is just plain crazy. If you think you have the solutions to keep these kids out of trouble how about you go volunteer your time to some organization or some sports league to help get kids on the right track, instead of being negative. Now I wonder how many negative comments i'll get for this post. GBO.

I agree VFnA.

I do hope Da'Rick can get his nose out of a weed bag. I don't care if there are some who want it legalized, regular marijuana use makes the user slow, dumb, and stupid. Because of the nature of the drug, it takes days or weeks for the user's metabolism to act and for them to 'come out of the fog'. It does affect an athletes ability and that's not acceptable, for teammates, fans, coaches, and the program paying for the sport.

I coached youth T-ball, baseball, softball, fastpitch, football, and basketball. I volunteered in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture, Brownies, and Girl Scouts. It's amazing how many parents don't even show up for games or events, much less practice or regular meetings; and treat the parents who do volunteer as if they're some sort of baby-sitter, and are 20 to 30 minutes late for pick-up. Then during games they do show for, guess who knows all about how it should be done? It's no wonder so many youth succumb and volunteers quit.

That said, it happened to me twice over the years. One kid showed up with road maps for eyes, another smelling like a joint. There are folks in the organization trained to meet with the kid and his/her parents and they are counseled and provided literature. And guess what, the kid continues with the errant behavior. I had little patience for them. Why? Because there is a line of capable deserving kids right behind them who keep their nose clean and want the opportunity the several times offender seems to disregard, leaving the parent volunteering their time a decision between keeping a doper or bringing in a kid who is straight up and wants to be on the team. Not a hard one to make.

On our own Summitt Court, in Rocky Top, the seats were pretty much empty. Hard for a team to get excited with so little fan support for the NIT. So, if you are local, and you didn't care to show for the game, how do you expect a winning effort from the Vols.

That said, I don't think I've ever sat and watched 4 men on a team virtually ignore the 5th. And by that I mean Skyler. I had to go out by concessions twice I got so upset about that. When they play as a team, they have a good chance to win, when they don't, they lose. It is ALL about being a TEAM. Last night they weren't and I do fault Zo for that. Martin is a good man, and I'm sure he knows bb, but from watching him on the sidelines he doesn't look to always have that winning fire in his belly during games. That translates to the Vols. The players have to be up for the game, and that starts with the head coach.

The 'One and Done' not-a-team did just that in the NIT, went 1&done to a tiny college TEAM neither my wife nor I knew anything about as we started watching the game. The result is what the Smurfkitties can expect to happen often if the fanbase and school allows Calipari to continue with the 1&done approach. Regular season routs and regular appearances in the NIT. Yes, they'll have up years and go the the Big Dance, but many not-a teams will be completely filled with 'players' who care not one wit about anything to do with the bluegrass state's 'not premier any more' basketball program. This is due to the head coach's philosophy that the fans and school bought in to; but is mostly because the of the 'players' themselves who will sign with a program doing that. I'll definitely NOT call them student/athletes. They aren't students. They aren't even athletes, just highly gifted 'players' with poor attitudes and little or no sportsmanship, caring only for themselves. They, along with Calipari, are 'playing' the NCAA student/athlete scholarship program. (the key word is SCHOLARship) and have no, none, nada, real desire to get a degree, represent Kentucky, the Kentucky fan base, or even their own not-a-team mates. These users who sign with Kentucky are only there to get highlight reel moments and championship bling until they announce (they think) for the NBA. To call them student/athletes? That's an insult to good kids everywhere working hard to earn a degree by earning a sports scholarship. They and their coach are merely 'players'; playing the system. The uncoachable Smurfkittens' 5* prima-donnas nationally televised embarassments of losing during the regular season and the 1st round of the NIT as they have may be the best thing that happened for the NCAA basketball scholar/athlete program this year.

Optimism is great but lets not lose our heads.

Zero pass rushers, slow secondary, weak linebackers, brand new passing game and an Oline that can't run block to save their lives doesn't add up to 8-4 in the SEC. Maybe 4-8, if you scheduled some weak OOC teams.

lizzards, being cold blooded, think rather slow til the weather warms up.

The Volunteer Offensive Line is going to blow up yor nasty little swamp!

I'm optismistic. I think BJ and staff can coach these guys. I look at the 2013 schedule and I have to remind myself it is a schedule written by the Devil himself. It's a schedule from Hades. Go Vols.

That's what CBJs talking about when he talks about 'momentum' ...

Written on UT's NFL coordinator Bill Baker to retire:

in response to jack4444:

Jones consulted with high school coaches before hiring Gillespie. Not sexy but pragmatic relationship building. From what I've read, Dooley would never have done that.

I wouldn't say CDD would never have made the HS contacts. WE only know that he hadn't yet. With an empty cupboard, he appeared to be pounding the JC transfer rock to bring in some respectable athletes. We know who those are. Given time and a defense not gone AWOL, he may indeed have begun to rebuild the high school connections. He built the 3rd most productive all time Volunteer offense; provided the NFL coordinator a bunch of offensive talent, and left what is arguably the nations best offensive line. He spent most of his time here stamping out wildfires. Too bad. Will we ever know what actually, truly happened to the defense? I do not believe it was lack of knowledge on the coaches (all of them) part. It was not that the 3-4 is a bad defensive scheme. Both teams in the NCG played the 3-4, and because of it's flexibility into a 4-3 or anything you care to mention, I still believe the teams who successfully run it will regularly appear in conference and national championship games. Was it Sunseri or defensive assistants couldn't connect with the players? Were too many uncoachable prima donnas? Were some, as my son and daughter who had them in class, functional illiterates, incabable of stringing three words togeather to make a sentence; so unable to follow verbal direction, much less the playbook? Did they belong in a university environment as scholar?/athletes? Can this type only use their inate athleticism and not learn schemes? I know we always, no matter what happens, put the blame on the head coach. But I want to know what were the real ...-reasons-... he had to shoulder that blame. Frankly, it could happen again this year. And I don't want to hear a bunch of 'wal he couldn't coach' or 'whadya expek from a Dolooser' knee jerk bombASSity!

I'm ok with Hart. He took on a tough job description as a hatchet man which everyone pretty much hates. His salary is average, not outrageous. But I can not trust a booger eater!

The Vols will at least have to play in the SEC CG to get in because of all the mid-major conference champs etc. Even though they have a BPI or RPI 20 points lower than the Vols. It's gonna be a tough row to hoe, but they can do it !

@ johnlg00 - In my day 'commitment' meant just that, and I truly hope all these young men stand by their word, and each one of them becomes leaders of men, on and off the field!

@ SummittsCourt - Suh! Ah take issue with callin' me uh Deboruh Downuh! 'Spesshullie atter Ah've been called 'Sunshine Pumper' an evuh othuh possible deerogatorie epuhthet by the Legion of Perruheal Pissuhmists lead by jeffy, walt, an reVolver. All for aknowledgin thet Derrek Dooley atter startin wi' virtuallie nuttin', left here atter buildin' the 3rd most effective offense in Volunteer history, left the Volunteers with whut is arguably thuh best Offensive Line in thuh nation this year, a spektacular trainin' facility, had a bunch leeve fur thuh pro combine, come verruh close to winnin' more than anyone thot with a defense that went AWOL, an ah ken he woulda still been here ifn he'da just got his DC hire rite! Yeah, he made some bonehead calls, but ah b'leve he'd uh got over that. Ifn ya must call me a Downer, at lease get muh gender right!

Back on topic: bUTch is definitely getting it done recruiting next years class to become one of the great ones. I totally agree with that. We need to encorage all these young men to honor the word 'commitment'.

Written on Mark Wiedmer: Basketball Vols need more wins to be NCAA sure:

Could it be too much about market share and viewer ratings? Yes, they have to give a semblance of being fair, but when so many B10 & BE teams walk through the dance hall doors with, as CGB pointed out, less than a .500 conference record, what other criteria could they be using? Those two conferences with their population densities account for a HUGE television viewership, hence advertising dollars. It's the March Cash Cow!
