We had a 5 star Cornerback and 4 star Quarterback right here in Middle Tennessee at Brentwood Academy and both went to schools in Florida (the 5 star was looking at USC for a long time). We need to lock down our state. UT needs to visit Brentwood Academy. They always have top recruits but none ever go to UT Vols. Put pressure on Brentwood kids to go to TN.

We lost many of these recruits because Dooley didn't have any relationships with anybody in state.The kids who are coming from in state would have in spite of Dooley and that's encouraging but losing a 5* to Fla.St. and two, 4* to Miss,a 4*star to LSU,a 5* to Ohio St.is unacceptable and I am confident Butch Jones will correct this.The more I learn of Dooleys recruiting failures helps me understand why he failed !

Wow! Can't believe all the negative comments about our new coach and signing class. The guy hasn't even coached one game for us and people are bashing him for not pulling in a top ten class. As for our new recruits if I was one of them and was reading half the garbage on this site about them I would definetly be second guessing my decision. Way to trash talk the new RB we got as well. I agree completely. Being an old Vol fan, I have seen my share of the ups and downs. The constant whining and complaining you refer to is basically the work in part of The KNS staff (using several screen names),not all the staff, but we know which ones. This is done to give the illusion of more people reading the web site. The other guilty parties are the ones commonly refered to as trolls, and kids seeking attention. Hart and Cheeks should be running the show...it's their job ! I think Charlie Strong would be a good hire especially if he would keep the offensive staff to add some stability and bring defense.Proven in the SEC !

The thing I remember most about Chavis is that even when we had a great defense he could not stop anyone on 3rd and long! His prevent defense prevented us from winning several big games!

That is my strongest memory of Chavis also..that and his 200# linebackers

sbnation.com is reporting that Hart is interviewing Larry Fedora today and that the list has narrowed to him,Charlie Strong and Mike Gundy.I think Charlie is our best bet...we had(and have) an offense...we need Defense! CS is proven in the SEC and know what it takes here to win a title.Whoever gets the job I hope Vol nation will unite once again,for divided we have fallen.

I would welcome Charlie Strong.He can coach defense in the SEC,knows the SEC east well and can recruit it.He he could retain the proven offensive staff bringing some stability to the program and saving UT some money while rewarding some loyalty.Sounds like a good plan to me.

I disagree on the Texas point.With A&M in the SEC now I think you will see more and more Texas players commiting to all the SEC schools that recruit there.Butch is a great recruiter but he is 60 yrs. of age....your energy level starts declining around that age..trust me on that one!
Although he was cleared by the NCCAA the "cloud" may rule him out at UT since we are already on probation.We need a "squeaky"clean guy with all the problems we presently have.We do though need a Great recruiter.

I love and respect Pat Summit and my heart goes out to her especially since my mother was recently diagnosed with the same illness.To be totally honest though she allowed the game to pass her by,just like Phil Fulmer did.She ran off Lauren Avant because she promised the starting guard job to Massegale while she was still in high school,how long did she keep that job.The game has changed....coaches must change with it

I haven't heard anyone discuss what it would cost to buyout an existing contract.

Almost all coaches have buyout options - some cost many millions of dollars. Jimbo Fisher, Bob Stoops, Larry Fedora, etc. can't just walk out on their contracts without paying a penalty.

It's one thing to offer a coach $ 3 million to be the Tennessee coach.

It's another thing if it would cost that coach several million dollars to buy out of his contract at his old school.

You are right....none of these coaches work for Mike Hamilton so they can't just walk like LK did !

It sure does matter. Tennessee's eyes are black enough with Pearl's issues not to mention the problems that that jerk from USC caused. Agreed, we do need a coach, but one with good character and integrity. And, it doesn't have to be a big name as evidenced by Penn State's coach who, in his first year, is up for "Coach of the Year" honors. I bet most of you don't know his name. The point is, all successful coaches were not big names when they started.

Just finished getting my orange "fix" by watching the Lady Vols blow out No.4 ranked UNC.Maybe we football nuts could learn something from the Lady Vols.A former UT All-American with orange blood coaching with one of her top performing players being Isabelle Harrison from Nash.,Tn.,that's right a Tenn. girl.What the UT football program needs is a coach and some players who bleeds orange........not crimson !

My son is a junior at Baylor. Knows the players and coaches. He says Briles is Texas born and bred and will never leave Texas for any amount of money.
He may coach at UT someday, but it will be that scorched orange (brown) and white version.

I agree. Sherman would be a great hire. I also would add that, of the 3 guys who have been getting mentioned (Golden, Strong, Fisher)alot, I'd prefer Gundy over all of them. He has won in a truly big conference and he can recruit.

I saw Phil get outcoached several times by "the ole ball coach"when UT had better players.Phil could recruit though and had a great class lined up.I think most UT fans would be happy to return to those days, especially after what we've had the previous 3 years.
