in response to Volbound1700: We had a 5 star Cornerback and 4 star Quarterback right here in Middle Tennessee at Brentwood Academy and both went to schools in Florida (the 5 star was looking at USC for a long time). We need to lock down our state. UT needs to visit Brentwood Academy. They always have top recruits but none ever go to UT Vols. Put pressure on Brentwood kids to go to TN.

We lost many of these recruits because Dooley didn't have any relationships with anybody in state. The kids who are coming from in state would have in spite of Dooley and that's encouraging but losing a 5* to Fla.St. and two, 4* to Miss,a 4*star to LSU,a 5* to Ohio St.is unacceptable and I am confident Butch Jones will correct this. The more I learn of Dooleys recruiting failures helps me understand why he failed !
in response to VOL_IN_BAMA: Wow! Can't believe all the negative comments about our new coach and signing class. The guy hasn't even coached one game for us and people are bashing him for not pulling in a top ten class. As for our new recruits if I was one of them and was reading half the garbage on this site about them I would definetly be second guessing my decision. Way to trash talk the new RB we got as well. That's gotta make him feel real good about his decision to come here. How about supporting our new coach and players instead of constantly having something negative to say.

Just scan over those posts, most of them are not fans anyway,(I know, it's sad)As far as the running back,a real fan can do a little research and know the facts. The damage Dooley did to recruiting relationships put Butch at a great disadvantage.Did anyone mention that he signed 2 "elite eleven"QB's?
Butch Jones and his entire defensive staff showed up at Vonn Bells home on Mon....my bet is he comes to UT.Coach Jones will get the job done at UT because of his dedication to recruiting and the ability to develop relationships

Thank YOU ! I've always said I'd rather have a 3 star with orange blood than most any 5 star with the exception of course of a 5 star "with" orange blood, of which Vonn Bell is.His last visit is to Knox. and Butch still has an in-home scheduled so lets hope for the best! VFL
in response to gc_scvol: I agree completely. Being an old Vol fan, I have seen my share of the ups and downs. The constant whining and complaining you refer to is basically the work in part of The KNS staff (using several screen names),not all the staff, but we know which ones. This is done to give the illusion of more people reading the web site. The other guilty parties are the ones commonly refered to as trolls, and kids seeking attention. We will see OUR VOLS rise to the top again. Just keep the faith, ignore the negatives, and support CBJ and his staff and OUR TENNESSEE VOLS. We'll get there. VFL...GBO

May the peace which surpasses all understanding be with your family.
What is the latest on Vonn Bell ? Heard his name repeatedly in the U/A game.Living in the Chatta. area it is well known that he is a lifelong Vol fan. This kid is a stud and we need him !
in response to budd#207344: My opinion on JA's article is that we will be able to tell if these coaches can coach after the team performance next year. We found out that Graham and Pittman could coach after one year. Does anybody want Sal to get another year at DC to make sure? Doesn't mean that they will win the East next year but should know if the guys can communicate the Xs & Os.

Agree totally!I just hope we can find some speed at db, maybe take the juco route. The kid Martinez brought looks good on video...good enough to warrant a look ar rec.listed as an ath.
Butch Jones understands "wide receiver U" so he will simply re-load....watch him work !
I don't care what they wear as long as we return to smash mouth football. After listening to BJ I am optimistic that he understands what it takes to win in the SEC,whether he can produce it only time will tell. Go Vols !
May you have a speedy and complete recovery !
God has smiled on the Vol nation in spite of its ignorance.Butch Jones will prove to be a winner on and off the field. With the way thing have gone lately I consider us very fortunate.

in response to Enki_Amenra: Infallible? I hope he truly believes it! I am simply a UT fan, nothing more, but since UT is his dream job and he seems to have a passion for this University, I will grant him his wish. I will support him unconditionally and base my opinion solely on his results - on the field and off. I hope all true Vols will give this man the benefit he has asked from you. Give him what he wants from the fans, opine over results only and he will give us what we want - a return to Elite Status as a Perennial Power in the SEC! Go Vols!!!

Spoken like a TRUE Vol fan! Hart was much more prepared than Mikey.I think Coach Jones has the ability and passion to return us to a competetive program in the SEC.Welcome to he and his family, let's show them some Tennessee hospitality !
in response to wallingdad: why do you keep lecturing us on Hart? you act as if we took up a collection and decided he was the man for UT. no one (that I am aware) on this site hired him. I believe that he is a loser too but lecturing us on that serves no purpose unless we can somehow get rid of the whole mess from Cheek on down (which I am in favor of).

This is so embarrasing, especially when surrounded by Ala. & Ga. fans.Hart dropped the ball,he should have known this was the LAST thing UT needed....to be made a laughing stock of again.Maybe we need to clean house! Auburn and Ark. beat us to the punch"I've done this many times" my arse,Hart took this long and these are the results! Can anyone say apathy ?

"told ya so"... an alum and that's the best you can offer? what's wrong with a positive outlook.....did your neighbors dog s*** in you lawn or something?
The dominoes are falling....lets go Hart !
Hart and Cheeks should be running the show...it's their job ! I think Charlie Strong would be a good hire especially if he would keep the offensive staff to add some stability and bring defense.Proven in the SEC !
in response to tennezz: The thing I remember most about Chavis is that even when we had a great defense he could not stop anyone on 3rd and long! His prevent defense prevented us from winning several big games!

That is my strongest memory of Chavis also..that and his 200# linebackers
sbnation.com is reporting that Hart is interviewing Larry Fedora today and that the list has narrowed to him,Charlie Strong and Mike Gundy.I think Charlie is our best bet...we had(and have) an offense...we need Defense! CS is proven in the SEC and know what it takes here to win a title.Whoever gets the job I hope Vol nation will unite once again, for divided we have fallen.

We don't need a Wow hire, we need a Win hire! Is Adams an Ala. alum?
in response to BigDaddyOrange: Every Tennesse fan should read this article and make as much noise as possible about it. This hire makes more sense than Strong or Gundy. Shaw has proven his abilities and is a low risk hire - which is what we need right now! You can bet the farm he will not stay at Stanford. Someone is going to scoop this jewel of a coach up, and every SEC school who didn't scoop him up will be kicking themselves in the a**!http://bleacherreport.com/articles/14...

I would welcome Charlie Strong. He can coach defense in the SEC,knows the SEC east well and can recruit it.He he could retain the proven offensive staff bringing some stability to the program and saving UT some money while rewarding some loyalty.Sounds like a good plan to me.

Just curious....who would you like to see as the next coach at UT other than Phil Fulmer ?
I disagree on the Texas point. With A&M in the SEC now I think you will see more and more Texas players commiting to all the SEC schools that recruit there.Butch is a great recruiter but he is 60 yrs. of age....your energy level starts declining around that age..trust me on that one!Although he was cleared by the NCCAA the "cloud" may rule him out at UT since we are already on probation. We need a "squeaky"clean guy with all the problems we presently have.We do though need a Great recruiter.

I love and respect Pat Summit and my heart goes out to her especially since my mother was recently diagnosed with the same illness. To be totally honest though she allowed the game to pass her by,just like Phil Fulmer did.She ran off Lauren Avant because she promised the starting guard job to Massegale while she was still in high school, how long did she keep that job.The game has changed....coaches must change with it
in response to DukeDeLuca2: Interesting that so many self-proclaimed experts on talk radio and football websites love to talk salary packages. I haven't heard anyone discuss what it would cost to buyout an existing contract. Almost all coaches have buyout options - some cost many millions of dollars. Jimbo Fisher, Bob Stoops, Larry Fedora, etc. can't just walk out on their contracts without paying a penalty. It's one thing to offer a coach $ 3 million to be the Tennessee coach. It's another thing if it would cost that coach several million dollars to buy out of his contract at his old school.

You are right....none of these coaches work for Mike Hamilton so they can't just walk like LK did !
in response to ornglovinyankealum: It sure does matter. Tennessee's eyes are black enough with Pearl's issues not to mention the problems that that jerk from USC caused. Agreed, we do need a coach, but one with good character and integrity. And, it doesn't have to be a big name as evidenced by Penn State's coach who, in his first year, is up for "Coach of the Year" honors. I bet most of you don't know his name. The point is, all successful coaches were not big names when they started.

What about the guy at Tampa Bay,have you watched him coach.....talk about intense!
Hey I root for SEC teams when they play outside the conference and I hope Ala. or any other SEC fans with any class would do the same.It is the Conference that we belong to and we all should take pride in that....plus if Ala. wins we won;t have to listen to Lou Holtz rant about ND.You notice he never mentions that he couldn't cut it in the SEC.

Fun to watch though huh? This was a great coaching job by Holly Warlick, with the exception of playing Andraya Carter who re-injured her shoulder,oh well maybe that was a reward for practicing this week.Congrats to Meighan Simmons another example of Coach Warlick letting players do what they do best. The Lady Vols are young but I for one am very excited about the future. As for those of you who said Holly would fail guess what? you sorely underestimated the power of the orange blood. Go Lady Vols !

I don't think UT is considering Petrino, just some of the idiots here.I agree totally, winning is not that important to me,to hire a self serving womanizer like Petrino(his past has been well documented here).Team Charlie Strong with Jim Chaney and I'll take my chances over most of the other names that have been mentioned here.At least with Chaney you have someone who WANTS to be here, that should count for a lot and CS has proven he can coach defense !
Just finished getting my orange "fix" by watching the Lady Vols blow out No.4 ranked UNC.Maybe we football nuts could learn something from the Lady Vols.A former UT All-American with orange blood coaching with one of her top performing players being Isabelle Harrison from Nash.,Tn.,that's right a Tenn. girl. What the UT football program needs is a coach and some players who bleeds orange........not crimson !
in response to alraguc#466367: You can blame Kiffin or the former AD but the real reason this program is in this mess is because Fulmer failed to learn and change with the state of college football. We would not be in this mess if his coaching skills did not deteriorate.

Don't forget......he hired Dave Clawson for his OC. Yea, Phil had a problem changing with the times, the game passed him by and what a shame,a former player who could recruit with orange blood. We should kick his arse !
